The only thing they can say on todays performance is "we were right".
-
It started way back in the 60's when Barassi left and Smith was sacked and the club lived in the past (sounds familiar) with no clear vision for the future.
-
...and that's the problem. If you don't wan't to step up and deal with the past mistakes then you keep repeating them...and here we go again.
-
I said a couple of days ago that Toumpas would frustrate a lot of supporters, it's because he is not Wines. Let him settle and he will be what we want, a class player with good finishing skills.
-
Agree, have bred a culture of failure and cost us half a mill.
-
Yes and they steer the meeting away from asking the hard questions. They won't take them.

I'm sure we're all waiting to see what happens, I'm not sure about being a little more worried but concerned or nervous non the less. We haven't been the greatest starters of recent times and none of us has a crystal ball. So many changes, lets hope we get the rebuild right this time and are on track. I think we are but lets see.

He's been the best in the game for a few years now and has booked his spot as a legend of the game when he finishes up. If anyone hasn't seen him play in the flesh get along to a game, what you don't see on the TV is his work rate and what he does off the ball. As he says no one can do what his dad did, but I think he (Gary Jnr) is the better player. His record is outstanding and there's still more to come.

PRACTICE MATCH: CASEY SCORPIONS v BOX HILL
rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Coming back from an ankle injury 'whitito'. I think he had a run in the first NAB cup round robin game and has been missing since. -
...well they've done it again. If anyone was just watching the footy it's pretty obvious Taylor and Darcy weren't. The umpire gave 2 50's the first for the player getting into the protected zone and the follow up for the Saint player mouthing off about the first. Ohhh the umpires lost it, he's given an 80 metre penalty. If they hadn't of been talking carp they would have picked up the 2nd one. How funny are these guys, how do you get a gig like this in a professional sport when you don't have a clue.

Pretty good summation 'Macca', I think Grimes and Howe will improve with better decision making part of the problem, Frawley has an awkward action but can be effective. Haven't taken a lot of notice of Sellar, he seems a decent set shot though. edit: might want to put a line under big Spencer...

With you there mate, that's why I'm on the forum and about to catch up on a bit of work. These teams don't interest me at all, loved the Doggies win though.

As you say none of know for sure why he was shipped out but from the outside it looks like Neeld is moving players out who do not fit his requirements. After last years performances he would not have the time or inclination to toughen players up if they didn't show they were 100% committed to the cause, why waste his and our time? At the start of last season again looking from the outside in it appeared that both Gys and Sammy Blease were well behind the pack as far as their fitness and training was concerned. Blease worked his butt off and it's a credit to him, he has the goods to be a top class player and now he has the work ethic to go with it. I would say he is a win for Neeld and one that he did toughen up. I reckon there is a good chance that Gys will be playing local footy in 2014 unless he gets the message.

PRACTICE MATCH: CASEY SCORPIONS v BOX HILL
rjay replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
He's running for match fitness, will be back in as soon as MIsson says yes. -
I'm not a fan but at least he has been giving the ball off by hand a lot more today and not trying to bulldoze his way through, that's the plus. On the negative side he was not being tagged (as we know he doesn't handle a tag well at all), that reward was given to Rich who really struggled with Lower who took the points well and truly. As usual when kicking he bombed the ball forward with no consideration of where it was going. I've always said we can't carry Silvia and Moloney in the same side so I'm happy to see him at Brisbane. The other beauty of this game is that the Doggies creamed them in the midfield an area that a lot of the so called experts had seen as a Brisbane strength with the addition of Moloney, a lot on here knew different but hey...no Black, no midfield still. Now it's up to us to prove the experts wrong, to much has been placed on a NAB cup that is more and more obvious clubs and players are not taking seriously and are using as practice games. 'stuie', he did get a bit of the ball but there was no close tag on him. As usual he didn't do a lot of damage when he had it, opposition sides know this and he will be let run a bit more this season. Rich will get the close tag until Black comes back then it will be a toss up. Don't agree on this, he was always a hinderance to the midfield as a group. Best he is gone. I think Viney will give more in his first season by the way.
-
I think he did crack the whip 'stuie' but got no reaction so he was moved on. We just don't have time for these guys if they don't want to put in the work. Good luck to him if he can turn it around, he can accumulate possessions but doesn't hurt when he has the ball. No run and carry and at best average by foot.

We were saying the same thing last year...let's wait and see. I do think we look better though.

The only way to shut them all up is win the bloody game
rjay replied to Soidee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree with what you say 'rpfc' but we will get not respect or shut up the media until we start to win games. I think we need to stick fat with Neeld, Craig, Misson and co...as you say, we are coming from a fair way back. Just maybe we are a bit further advanced than some think and we will get enough wins to stick it up a few people. Pity Denham reneged on his pledge to walk from Melbourne to Perth if we won more than 5 games, he's now on the trek from SEN to South Melbourne, pretty weak effort. -
There are a few handy players who lack speed and explosiveness in the AFL, the current Brownlow medalist is one and a few others are in the current premiers midfield including the Norm Smith medalist. Pendles is not explosive nor is Bartel, are they just serviceable players. I just think a lot of people have short memories and forget how good Trengove's first season and a half were. I reckon the first thing he struggled with was when the AFL hung him out to dry for a great tackle on Dangerfield, and the second was he definitely carried some type of injury into last season. You can't convince me that a player like him who was a good kick and had reasonable pace (not explosive) lost it all at 20yo, as 'old dee' pointed out he couldn't even make the distance from 30 mts , this is a kid who was a good kick over 50. Don't sweat it, he will be an "A" grader.
-
Not saying the book was a good idea but the story is certainly one that is very different to the Rioli story as good as Rioli has been.
-
Wouldn't touch Martin 'RR', way to much baggage there. Likely to self combust at any time.
-
Yeah 'old dee' the injury is a blow but he does have a good fitness base which may carry him through. Your June timeline is probably on the mark though. The positive is he should be free of any nagging injuries he seemed to carry last season.
-
I still see him as a Bartel type 'old dee', isn't the complete product yet. We will know more at the end of this season though.
-
I think Taggert is a well rounded player good size, really good kick so I'm interested in his progress this year. I hope he can break into the senior side, one game for Casey at Box Hill gave an indication of what he could be which was very good. Evans has shown he is a ball winner, sometimes a bit wayward with his kicking, showed a bit early in his career. Both come off injury plagued seasons so it's an important year coming up.
-
I wouldn't write Trengove off just yet as a make do, I think he will be A grade mid in the not to distant future. Grimes, I'm still not sure if he's better mid or half back, he needs a clear run at it. At worst he will be a really good solid footballer.
