Taggert, Magner, Stark delisted; Clisby promoted
rjay replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
I hope we re draft Taggert as a rookie unless there are work rate issues with him, he has something to work with. -
Scharenberg won't be there but if he was we would take him.
-
Bit of editing from the accountant 'tona'? Thought 'Robbo', he of the $100 bill is better than 3 $50's did the original addition.
-
Different story; the doggies have another couple of 30+'s in Boyd and Gia, in the end they couldn't justify another one in Cross unless they were a contender next year. Even the Cats who are contenders have had to make room on their list or would have lost a couple of good kids like Smedts and Horlin-Smith.

I don't know about Savage falling out with Clarkson, I don't see any evidence that he did, but I do know that Ball, fallen out or not was, is and always will be much better footballer than Nahas.

Emma Quayle Moving Article On Nathan Jones

Yep, I would love to have been a fly on the wall in that room. It would have been a very interesting conversation. -
No they weren't.

I admire Fitzy for working through his health problems, I also admire that he started to work harder at training but an elite trainer he isn't. 2 pre's ago he would have been our worst trainer, the coaches were consistently on his back about following up his kicks. He would kick the ball and jog off with no urgency. The pre season just gone you could see a lift in his urgency which he needed to do but as I say elite trainer he is a long way from being.

Emma Quayle Moving Article On Nathan Jones
rjay replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great read, but really gives an insight into what Roos has ahead of him to rebuild the confidence in the players. A lot of work to be done and I'm really grateful that Jackson is there to oversee it, we would be totally screwed without him. -
I would be very surprised if Scharenberg is not picked up by GWS at 2 and if he slips he won't get to Brisbane, the Pies will take him before that.

Barrett peddling his usual crap about the Demons
rjay replied to Dees2014's topic in Melbourne Demons
'Jack', he made comments about lies coming from the club. My guess is he was being fed rubbish under the new mob and he didn't like it. He certainly wasn't a CS fan, not on his own there. -
Good get 'Dazzle'. The players are really lucky to have this guy in charge now.

Barrett peddling his usual crap about the Demons
rjay replied to Dees2014's topic in Melbourne Demons
...and Hutchy probably knows less about the game than Barrett. A couple of years back he had us as a top 4 powerhouse, well we can dream. -
You might be right there 'rpfc', I thought it was a bit strange dreaming of Nahas playing for the dees. Sorry 'deeman', that's a good dream to have but make sure you can play in the midfield then drift forward to kick a few.

Where do we want Jack Watts playing next year?
rjay replied to InVINCEable's topic in Melbourne Demons
Roos has said mid and I agree with him, i think he will play mid and may drop across half back at times. I can see him being a taller Goddard. He has the skills and physical capabilities to do it, the rest is application (mental). -
sounds more like a nightmare, you need to upgrade your dreams young fella.
-
Now that's funny, I thought Roos might have found out he is a closet midfielder.

Good thread 'Nasher', a few of us are off on a bit of a Box Hill tangent but it brings back a lot of good memories mate.
-
I reckon you were a year ahead of me 'Hood', but yeah Gary was doing the Howey thing every lunchtime on the oval.
-
Marshall and Welsh played school footy at Box Hill, I reckon Marshall was the more gifted player and played with him at Pioneers. My old next door neighbour was a recruiter at Hawthorn and tried to lock him in down there, the story was he played one u19's game was BOG and didn't go back. Trev Hoath was another great player from those days. Good to have another Pioneer boy on board 'still waiting', if you're down Gippsland way, anywhere near Herbie? maybe you did a little bit of coaching?

Still see Dennis around from time to time. Rene was the skipper at Melbourne High at the time or so he tells me (ran into him a few years back, not literally), it was in the days where VFL kids could play mid week with the school and on the weekend with their club. We had Alan Goad at Box Hill so he had a few games with us. Melbourne had a lot of VFL level players so they crunched us at city oval, all I remember is the poor kid we had at full back giving it everything he had to punch the ball from Kink in a marking contest and the ball didn't move from his grip. Unfortunately sport started running down in the high school system, we might have been at the tail end of it. I remember it being strong in my first few years and then just evaporating.

A position that I would say is redundant, it's just taking a while for a few people including some coaches to catch on to the idea.
-
Without naming clubs, I have played or coached in games that have been called off, the last game of a club that got kicked out of the comp (should have been called off before half time, they should have been out a few games earlier especially after the baseball bat incident), umpires being hit or threatened, a coach sending a player off the bench to king hit one of my players then straight back off the ground, received threatening phone calls the night before a game, numerous all in's on and off the field, players hitting their own teammates, a coach dragging one of his own players from the showers and belting him. ...the good old days. I hope we have moved on.
-
We will never really know what order and who the Pies would have taken if they had 2 picks but as they had 3 in a row it didn't matter. Lets say it was Broomhead, injury interrupted first season, the kid is very highly rated and could go on to have a great career. I think Barrett was part right about last years drafting being scattergun, we seemed to have a plan with Hogan, Toumpas and getting Viney in the second round but then it fell apart with Gillies, Roden, Pedersen, Byrnes and co. The jury is still out with Dawes for me.

Is this the mob that became Richmond Amateurs? nice bunch of gentlemen.
