I'm not so sure how the Saints have done in this trade period. They've picked up a couple of borderline players in Savage and Delaney and a ruck with potential in Longer. The draft is said to be strong to pick 12 and a raffle thereafter so pick 3 is all they have there. Then they've lost McEvoy and DelSanto. It doesn't scream win to me and I know you're not saying that, but maybe Pelchen is getting points from his previous positions. I guess all will become obvious over the next 12 or so months. Barrett could point at us picking up 2 young mids with hardly any game time, big punt on potential with injury issues. Trading out the compo pick 20+ for a 28yo and then bringing in a pensioner in Cross. We could answer that Tyson will be a gun, Black, Hodge and Pendles all rolled into one plus we get another hit at it with pick 9 to get the next Dangerfield or Stevie J. Vince is a much better player than Silvia and pick 20+ is a raffle in this draft anyway. Michie is the hidden gem of this trade period and Cross will bring a level of professionalism the club needs. It's all opinion at this stage.

Maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong. We will have a pretty good idea next season I guess.

Going purely on the video highlights it would be Lennon for me, huge upside and a lot to work with. If we want hard at it it's Crouch but I think we have that covered now.

Barrett peddling his usual crap about the Demons

I do rate Finey so I would be interested in his opinion. He may or may not be right but at least he's usually informed unlike a lot of others in the media. -
I would say a bigger problem was on field leadership and ability of senior players just wasn't up to the mark. Hopefully this is behind us now but we do need Dawes providing leadership on the ground.

Just like all the SA kids are Jimmy T's best mates.

Hah!

At the time that's the way it was seen by a lot of people, I doubt him getting drafted was for him to hold Trenners hand.

Who said we didn't?

I would say they were good pick ups at 18,19 & 20. Grundy was a steal and Kennedy was also seen as an earlier pick. I would also say that many thought Tapscott was a steal when we got him (unfortunately hasn't come on) and it had nothing to do with Trengove being his mate that we picked him.

From the vids it's Lennon for me.

Missed a season with injury, to early to call yet.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS

Agree 'Gonzo', I think he is a good get as we need his experience on the list. Just saying he will not come without some cost, there is always 2 sides to the deal. -
Cheers 'steve', you are right it is only one game. It would have been good to see how he went after the carnival as he seemed to be building some good form but the collarbone put a stop to that.

A crumbing forward, my kingdom for a crumbing forward

Me....no I just don't rate them. Particularly with capped interchange, goal kicking mids is what we need. The days of the resting rover might be back except there will be no rest these days. -
No I watched his big carnival game where he kicked 4 goals, and had a look at the replay again about a month ago to check my initial thoughts on him so I had a close look at him in one game. Not enough but more than what many on here are basing opinions on, I replayed parts of the game where he was involved and I thought he wasn't particularly good in close. I don't base my opinions of a player on stats, write ups on phantom drafts or Kevin Sheahan's player comparisons. I don't think he works well in close, have a look at the game and you might see what I'm saying but I think your mind is closed.
-
I think you are reading him pretty well, looking at the highlights reel the only contested possession he got was in a marking contest in the forward line. Watching his game a couple of times where most of those highlights came from he didn't get any ball inside ball and no way on that game could I see a comparison with Priddis. I think a lot are over rating Sheed, he is as you say a good honest footballer, most of his possessions come on the spread and not in close.

Can I add Rucci to the list, another know it all know nothing. -
Last time I looked he was doing ok himself, but that was the brownlow last year.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS

The concern I have is for Taggert to hold his place on the list, not that he won't get a game. At the moment he is uncontracted, the negative with Cross is that whilst he doesn't cost much he does take a place on the list, that's the price we pay. -

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS

Last year we took on players who were well past their prime and some who never had a prime. Cross is at worst a good mentor to the younger players and at best a solid performer in the midfield. My negative on this is I hope he doesn't come at the cost of someone like Taggert. There's nothing wrong with your opinion or Barrett's for that matter (although I do think his description on here is pretty accurate), at the moment nothing has been proven. It was the same last year when we all put on the rose coloureds and the Barrett's of the world were probably proven right, at least in the short term. The one thing they didn't get last year though was the value of Hogan, the long term game. In the end the only KPI that counts...The Scoreboard...will as always be the ultimate decider.
