  1. I think the Hawks are possibly in a worse position than the Cats (past this year), they've got this year to get it done or they drop back. Too many over 30's now and they need to regenerate the list. As Nathan Buckley can tell Chip, it's sometimes hard to pick winners. Free agent 'hogan', there is nothing to get done.
  2. How was McKenzie's ball use 'Sat', was he trusting himself to kick the ball?
  3. 'steve' as you know the bests are not always a great indication and as you say numbers aren't either. It depends a lot on who gave them. Unfortunately for those of us who can't get to the games we have to go on them (numbers and bests) to some extent and reports from posters who were there.
  4. ...and a couple more mids with skill and a bit of leg speed, Frawley back and we would be well set.
  5. I think so, a bit like the Hawthorn situation with Box Hill.
  6. That would be near impossible, to have a really good understanding and background they would need to have played the game and preferably coached at least to assistant level which Campbell has. I think they need to umpire to the rules and not try and craft the game with the umpires. What I mean by this is that some interpretations are being made to try and fix the game. It is not the job of the umpire to do this, if it is broken change the rules not bend them to suit. Another issue I have is the changes in interpretation after half time when the advisor gets to them. They need to stick with them for the game otherwise you might as well have interchange umpire and that would be an even bigger mess. Umpires need to be consistent, with good or bad interpretation and not change during a game.
  7. No, but to his credit he isn't going back and sulking like some players in the past. He is getting good numbers and putting pressure on and more power to him. Jordie has had to fight every step of the way to get into AFL football so I won't count him out just yet.
  8. Goal kicking for sure, he really has become a good set shot now when it was probably the biggest weakness in his game. Goes to show even though he's coming to the end of his career he can still keep on learning and improving his craft.
  9. I'm not as convinced as some on Evans, I think he's a really good VFL level player who will give it his all at AFL level but not quite there. The other 2, I think have a bit more to offer.
  10. Thanks Bob, good to know Fitzy is up and about. Would be good to see him get a bit more ruck time with Spencer out. I'm sure Kent will be pushing up soon enough.
  11. No, it doesn't show our (MFC) lack of depth. It shows that Casey are struggling as a team to run out games and this could be for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with depth. The depth looks ok with McKenzie, Mitchie, Evans and Kent getting a bit of ball. Frawley, Hogan, Clark (ret), Spencer and not sure on Fitz missing does put a dint in the tall department though.
  12. Yeah, I thought Martin was their best player by a fair way. Cross would have been the best match for him but he was already doing a job on Delidio.
  13. I'm a big Sandy fan but he got a lot wrong yesterday and continually. Maybe he hasn't done enough commentary to keep his game up or maybe it's past him by but mistakes and all I would still have him over BT or D-Wayne who also make a lot of mistakes and are absolute ..... to boot.
  14. I think Jetta will come in to cover Wingard, he's hard and can match him in the air.
  15. Sam who??? This was seriously a dumb call by someone I've never heard of and hope never to hear from again. Condemn him to the society pages.
  16. Has a good kicking technique but his ball use is one of the things he's been sent back to Casey to work on. He hasn't been picking the best options and hasn't been confident enough in the application.
  17. I'm not sure they had much choice with GC and GWS coming in right when they were rebuilding but as I've said before it is why they were never going to be a premiership threat with this group. Last year is as good as it gets for them. As for Harwick, he seems a really good guy and is probably a good development coach but he really lacks as a match day coach. Again soundly beaten today and Roos hasn't even started coaching yet, or so he says.
  18. I hope the football public matures a bit too, and many on here. It's time for Jack to be left to get on with his game, this is what the FD has brought with them this year, they let the players play, teach them and back them in.
  19. Fools like Dwayne think it is great, they put away the whistle. Trouble is they then bring it back out at game breaking times and it's not good enough. Personally I think the umpiring standards have gone even further downhill since Evans, Campbell and Kennedy have taken over. Evans gets points for "being from clubland" and supposedly understanding the game. Sorry but I don't see it, he's added nothing since he has been in and after this week (Murphy, Hannebury) following the Viney debacle the bump, brace situation is a total mess and will end up with someone being seriously injured.
  20. Really loved hearing Eddie's call in the last quarter "The Melbourne hard men, Jones, Viney and Cross...all getting involved". Haven't heard about Melbourne hard men for a long, long time... Roo reckons that Roos probably didn't realise what a good player he got in Bernie Vince, think he might have had an inkling. For a kid playing his 20 something game, Tyson is really just showing his class and incredible strength around the contest for a young kid.
  21. Agree with you completely 'Webber', and random outcome is a great description. They don't pay any then later in the game a few dubious ones or should I say different interpretations get paid. Makes you wonder about half time umpire coaching really...
  22. You out there Damien???
  23. It was Hurley, and I agree with a lot of what you say. Hurley was really poor in his approach to the ball and this might well be a legacy of the way things are in the AFL these days. With players not encouraged to bump they are not turning their bodies to protect themselves for either fear of it being seen as a bump or they are incompetent in the ability to protect themselves or they don't are not expecting to be hit or all of the above. I'm not sure the AFL have this one right, and by trying to be over protective they might well tip the balance to far and in fact cause some very serious injury.
  24. Wouldn't be surprised, a lot will hang on the 18's carnival but he really is a genuine forward.
