...not sure anyone else was putting their hand up for selection 'Jack'.
-
Judd was a Melbourne supporter, once Jaksch has had a look at our facilities....who cares. He hasn't shown much to date.
-
Broomhead looks pretty good.

Didn't really impress before that...

From what I've seen of him he's not overly physical just big. Jesse is an angry young man on the field, McCartin is as well, they would put the fear up a few defences.
-
Would rather target Tomlinson.
-
Gotta play to win a premiership & anyway I think Geelong are at the end of their run but worth a shot.
-
Laverde is one that really interests me 'Bob', the only downside is that he runs himself into trouble at times trying to do a bit too much. Gore as a 3rd round pick maybe with some picks we might get from trades. It seems he is not rated at all by the draft gurus but looked good to me.
-
Cheers, I reckon he's watched a bit more of it. Interesting he sees Petracca as no.1. I would be happy with McCartin.
-
I think we should make a run at him anyway, Blease is unders but the kid is not getting a game and no matter how highly regarded some cash and game time would come into the equation..
-
Personally would rather go for Smedts than Schroder. Hasn't been able to lock down a position but has a lot of class and is a good size.

Nothing is for sure, it's always a risk and how many under 18 games has Mike watched this year...

The argument could be made that the damage was already done.

You know what? I really hate that excuse, I'm not blaming you for using it as it's trotted out all the time. It presupposes that the AFLPA is an all powerful all conquering union, so powerful that the AFL just had to give in to it's demands. The pressure from the AFLPA must have been immense.

Getting in before 'old dee', but I sure hope you are right here 'Jack'.
-
Have to agree with you totally here, I just can't come at the skinny kids argument mainly because it is just plain wrong.

I don't think the trade is necessarily the best thing to do this year. I think Tyson has been a success but for the deal to be a real success Salem has to develop into the player we hope for. A lot depends on how the 2nd part of the deal stacks up, we have to keep regenerating the list and if we can't pick kids and develop them then we might as well shut shop. I know we've been spectacularly unsuccessful with this to date, but it's time we got it right.
-
Yep, have to agree there. Scully really hasn't met expectations and not only was this on his junior form but I would like to know what GWS saw in him to give him the big offer. I hope the recruiters we have in place have the courage of their convictions though; pick the kid they think will be best and not be concerned about where the draft pundits see him. I think we did this with the Tyson deal, I would be interested in what really happened with the Wines/Toumpas selection.

I'm not in the cut and thrust of recruiting 'nut', so I am influenced by what the influencers say. Less so now. I would be interested in who Rendall, Bucky or the Geelong crew would have selected. We will never know of course. As for Martin, I don't think the Tiges are out of the water there yet. This is a little like Petracca at the moment, the potential greatest player to pull on a boot. I hope we don't get caught up in the hype, there may be better options. I'm not convinced yet that we have the best recruiting team on board, time will tell. I do get worried about a player, like Trengove who rockets up the list in their final year.

I'm not sure about it being a bargain but I reckon it was a good trade for Tyson alone. If Salem meets expectation then it will be a bargain, you seem to want to right Salem off in your rush to praise Kelly and talk of Tyson as a B or C grader. I think you are way off the mark but we will all know for sure in the next few years.
-
Guy Sabastion might make a good solid mid...
-
I think there is a level of hype though 'nut', happens in every business. The recruiters get caught up in it like the fans and media and the expectation grows, a little of 'the Emperors new clothes'. It's easy to see in hindsight of course but we only hope that we have people who can look through the smoke, mirrors and hype and make a good decision.

...but he may be streets ahead of both in a couple of years. Remember Wingard was very quite in his first year. If Salem doesn't show marked improvement next year then I will be concerned but your call is way too early.

Players to target at the end of the year
rjay replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
No...Collingwood would jump at a 2nd round pick. Way overs. I love the way he goes about his football but he is purely a grunt man, we need to add some real hard edged class.
