WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
rjay replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
They tagged Tyson after the first Q, his impact on the game was greater and is why we were still in the game. -
I don't want him in the media but he needs to get out amongst the fans and I don't for a minute think that it is the answer to our problems. But on all levels the club must engage more and start to put in a lot harder. It's a thing I noticed during pre season training. At one session he was talking to a group for a little while then went into the roped off players area, at other sessions he was in that area with other committeemen and staff. I remember when Stuart Spencer was president he was out amongst the supporters at junction oval all the time, talking, listening putting up with my mate talking the same old garbage but he was engaged. When Hawthorn were on their knees Ian Dicker was the same, out in amongst it engaging with the fans. This is what I would like to see from our President, quietly going about his business but being engaged with the supporter group not liniment sniffing with the players and other hangers on. I don't need him to be Eddie 'photo op' man of the people when a camera is around' McGuire. He has to be legit, if he can't do it then he's the wrong man for the job. Committee members from the past regime must move on now.

It's interesting that the media heavy hitters are now onside, like them or not these are the key people at their organisation and their opinions carry weight. Smith, Wilson, Robinson & Whateley.
-
They're not doing what Tyson is doing and they're not good enough to be tagged yet. Pretty early in the year most AFL coaches realised Tyson was our most dangerous player and started tagging him. Those that didn't, did by the end of the game. Don't kid yourself this kid is well on the way to being a A grader, reminds me a lot of Boak the way he goes about it. No nonsense, hard at the footy and can kick a good goal when the team needs it.

I don't think McCartin is a gamble at all and would be more than happy if they take Petracca for us to take him. I sometimes worry about someone that was talked about as high teens maybe later last year coming in as a lock on 1st position this year. That could be seen as a gamble.

Last I checked they were going to abandon the commission and let everything go to a popular vote. The integrity and impartiality of Fitzpatrick commission is a joke, you, you, you...
-
Agree there are rules and then there are AFL rules, anyone knows that AFL rules are more interpretations than rules. Unfortunately due to the AFL's integrity, high moral standards and ethics they don't let anyone know the formula for these rules so they can change them after they sniff the prevailing breeze and not get called out on it. The AFL stand for integrity, just ask them...

That's very true and given GWS may not really want or need picks and may be more interested in players where does the trade come from. I know you're not a Tyson fan but I think that was a good deal for us, doesn't mean we can just find another one. I think he is a special, hope we can find another.

Evans is a total [censored], since when was he on the commission. He is an employee and should shut up and do his job. It's all there for us to see how poorly he's performed this year. Maybe he can start with goal review, a simple task to fix that his simple mind might be up to.
-
There are still some on the committee that should go and while I'm at it, it's time for the prez to get out from behind the glass and mix with the fans. He now needs to be visible, not talking rubbish to the media but getting amongst the members and supporters.

Pity, seems like a good bloke. Will now only make comment like a lot of other tossers, Gary, Dermott, Gerard ....who never had the courage to sit in the drivers seat but are happy to pass their wisdom on to those who do. A couple of years will be too late for him as the game will have long passed him by.
-
When we drafted Tyson I said he would be in the top 5 mids in the AFL in the next couple of years, he's well on the way. The kid has just ticked over 30 games and will be top 2 in our B&F, has enormous upside. His strength in the contest is amazing, watching him wrestle the ball with Mummy a few times and break even the other day. Wait till he has a couple of preseasons and spends a bit of time building some core strength in the gym. I get that we need to draft real talent, for last years trade to be a real win we need to see the best of Salem. His illness preseason has put him back a fair way but there are big wraps on the kid. Don't worry about Tyson 'ol', he's a star in the making and exceeded all expectations of the so called experts this year.

If it's the case that the argument against wins then I think we need to manage a campaign with the other smaller clubs to start attacking the money. Hit Eddie and his mates where it hurts in the pocket. Lets get true equalisation.
-
Last I heard Evans wasn't on the commission so it's not his position to comment on whether the pick is dead, yes he makes the recommendation but doesn't make the policy. Last year his now boss Gil wasn't unfavourable about us getting a pick so I don't think it is dead just yet. Even Carro surprisingly didn't say no to the idea and seemed ok with it. Of course DH Lloyd had a differing opinion, but who cares about him? By the way I think Evans has been a disaster in his job, seems to blow with the prevailing wind. Some might call it listening to the fans, I call it lack of conviction and ideas.

Has to learn to play before he can be that guy, has a long way to go before he catches Ballantyne or Smith and even further to Farmer.
-
If there were players knocking down the door at Casey to get a game then it might be looked at but.... This is the trouble, the list needs a total overhaul. We will see more than half of it turned over in the next 2 years.

...and Tyson carved them up in the clearances early in the game. He will either win or come runner up in our B&F, I don't think we made a mistake here. Kelly really got going when the game was done and dusted. -

Tyson has already turned the tide of games, I wouldn't be too worried about him. What is x factor, I would think it's someone like Jurrah, the ability to do the extraordinary. Kelly will be a very good footballer, so will Tyson, that's the least of our problems. Salem had serious health problems in pre season that gives him some let out plus he is a first year player, but he really does need to get involved in the game a lot more, can't argue that. -
Here's one for you 'Sat', you've previously reported that Salem prefers to watch EPL than AFL. Maybe he needs to get back to work and work on his trade. At this stage of his career he needs to watch as much AFL as he can to learn the game. He has the skill set but needs to apply it.

Palmer is 7, Howe played on him, Palmer kicked 4 goals. Smith is 10, BOG...

Players to target at the end of the year
rjay replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah I get that and even Howey is not taking those big marks now, that was another reason to go. -

So did Tyson, was our best player until injured and the reason why we were in the game in the first Q. Rating a player for their performance against us yesterday is nearly as bad as rating them on NEAFL form. We were that bad. -
2nd half of the season, was good early but seems to have dropped off. He is a 2nd year player and shouldn't be expected to carry the load but with a lot of the senior players disappointing then it exposes him more.
-
I still think Nev was one of our best but spent a lot of time on Smith and was beaten. Not his fault as the delivery to Smith was spot on with no pressure up the ground. Yes he did rotate in the mids and it shouldn't have been a surprise to us as that's what all sides do.
