An interesting listen of an outsider's perspective of our list
rjay replied to grazman's topic in Melbourne Demons
The 2 strong sides of the last 10 years, Geelong & Hawthorn have been helped by the expansion. They've been artificially held up and it allowed them to become "destination clubs" which gave them an extra kick. However... The Cats are on their last legs & will have to go to a rebuild once the Ablett experiment is over & that maybe a lot sooner than they think. The Hawks have papered over some cracks but have a lot riding on O'Meara...they don't have the talent to sustain another premiership shot without going back to the draft & rebuilding. -
Hodge has a great body of work behind him that tells the pointee he knows what he is talking about and he's about team. We've had our share of pointers who used it to take the easy way out. Our pointee's were lambs to the slaughter...

If you're talking Brayshaw 'Andrew', then he's hardly done any midfield time at AFL level to get the possessions. He's been used a lot on flanks, forward mainly and back. Certainly gets plenty of midfield ball at VFL level and I would expect this to translate as he gets more midfield minutes at AFL lever, the kid can play.

No surprise with Hutchy as the new boss...

How Good Draft Choices Can Make or Break an AFL Team

They lose Rance and it all goes to Dust... -
My thought is that Danger would cut him to pieces. Frosty is an athlete first and foremost and wouldn't have the footy smarts to go with Danger. The best way to beat Danger as a forward is to stop supply and force him back into the midfield. The Swans failed badly at this in the finals and left Rampe exposed.

They're nothing alike 'Deemania'... Mann was a brilliant player, elusive and could kick well off both feet. Kent is a one dimensional, purely one sided unreliable left footer.

The watch can stop as often as it wants 'Demon Disciple' but time moves on...

If we want our team to survive in the modern era then yes... There are many things I would like to be, times to go back to but unfortunately time waits for no one 'Deemania'.

Melbourne player investigated over alleged assault whilst overseas

Sorry 'bing', it might be a bit early in the morning for me but that doesn't clarify anything at all. Lots of nice words like...protocol, integrity, mechanisms, sending a message & appropriate support though. Sounds like 'Dill' speak to me. -

Depth is always a bit of an illusion... I hope we don't have to see it too much this year at AFL level. Depth will never replace your champion players, we need them on the ground. -
For a so called power club that gets prime time games & privileges , Carltons membership is very average.

So it looks like we have another level of law now...well maybe above the law as the AFL seems to place itself. Not so sure about the AFL or any organisation apart from the appropriate legal authorities dealing with these issues. The EFC saga is a case in point. The illicit drugs policy is another. Someone may convince me otherwise but at the moment I think it's treading a very dangerous path. -

What has CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) got to do with it? For that matter what has the AFL got to do with it...the so called spokesperson seems to think they (AFL) have more authority in Bali than the Vic Police. It would seem neither have any... I'm not a fan of the way the AFL run their business but without any charges they can't be expected to be judge and jury. Surely they can only act after the law has run it's course. -

It was the a mix of everything 'big'... Not just drafting or just development. -

Richmond got stuck right in the middle of this and it cost them but they got some things right with the core of their team. We had our opportunity before the compromised drafts and totally blew it, then we got stuck with nowhere to go. The management of the club was appalling at this time is what set us back so far. Nothing to do with luck. -
A happy new year to all... I know a lot got upset with certain results in 2017 and missing finals but I reckon that could be put down to the age of our prime movers and injury to key players It's not so much that we have a young list, it's that our real quality match winners are 19 - 23 year olds and you expect some inconsistencies. Another year older and the addition of Lever I believe makes 2018 a whole different ball game. Barring significant injury, if we don't make solid inroads into the finals series then we will need to ask questions. I think the list is well set now to win one in the next few years. So...2018 Here we Come. Time to get excited 'Demonlanders'

They needed to do an analysis to work that out....FFS, anyone who only has a passing interest in football could tell you that we stuffed up our draft picks. Success is reliant on a number of factors, the draft is one of them. -

If there was an incident but the woman involved doesn't want to pursue it for whatever reason then to me no further comment is the only feasible outcome. Should the club come out and name the player involved in said incident when he could be totally innocent? should they say it's been investigated and handled when maybe there is no conclusion because she doesn't want to speak to the club or AFL?I mean why should she, they are hardly relevant & non biased legal authorities. I know it would be good to have a conclusion, everything nicely wrapped up but sometimes this is not possible. I would be interested to know who leaked the story though....- 328 replies

For one it's a bad viewing ground... Then there's the issue of getting there and getting in. Plus we draw crowds of around 25k + at the 'G' for these games, we've go no hope of getting that at Casey unless they do a Geelong like upgrade and not just one stand. Have I mentioned the viewing and transport??? The other grounds you've mentioned are not AFL grounds either and yes the surface might be great but...

I sure hope not 'Drunkn', even with a new grandstand it would not be good enough for AFL games in Melbourne.

2018 might just be the year to keep it 'machine'...

It would surprise me... If there are no charges then there is nothing the club should or needs to do, creative or otherwise. Move on... -
...and we head off on our Sunshine Coast camp in January, the same type of training camp the Hawks are doing. So what is the point of this comment? How are the Commando Hawks showing us up? They're not doing a "Commando Camp". Rather than balanced I would say it's an irrelevant article The above is probably the most honest quote in the article...well almost, there is a twist. Call other football people out on it but then to hell with it and do it yourself, one of the oldest tricks in the book. Makes the writer out as being the superior journalist.
