  1. ...be interesting to hear Whateley's take on it tonight. He's been one of the systems biggest critics, I hope the AFL don't get to him first.
  2. Yep, that's exactly what's going on and it's what's being exploited. Players are so good with their hands these days that you need to stop them giving it off quickly, the method being used is to take an arm or arms out of action. This means you are opening yourself up to tackling higher for someone prepared to slip the tackle... The crack down on dangerous tackles has also had an effect on how the players are now being coached to tackle. I think the AFL need to act on the player drawing the tackle but in the meantime I think our players should be taught to tackle harder and lower into the body which will force the player with the ball off balance and put the ball at minimum back into dispute and at best draw an incorrect disposal. The rugby approach putting your shoulder into the tackle means you take them off the ball, it's not a dangerous tackle according to the rules and it takes the wind out of your opponent. They won't want to lift their arms to give off to much if they keep getting belted in the guts, it's a bit like the boxer softening up his opponent with body punches...
  3. The rule change was about a player ducking and using his head to charge into the opposition player like some kind of battering ram, I think the umps have gone a bit easy on this one but that's another story. That's not what this guy is doing, he's exploiting the rule and drawing the free kick, he's not staging, the free kick is there. It's up to the AFL to change the rule or for coaches to get their players to tackle lower and harder. Not his fault and not cheating, some of the current greats do it. As someone pointed out, Selwood...but recently heard a magpie talking about how Pendles trains to do it. Do I like it? No...reminds me a bit of Bartlett when I was a kid, the then VFL changed the rule. Time to act AFL? Yes..
  4. Lyon/Goodwin, Shortened Career (travel factor)/Healthy Career (home of footy), Struggling Team on rebuild/Exciting Team on the way up, Great Money/Great Money.... I think the extra pressure that is being applied will force his hand and he will sign soon, it's already effecting his form. He just doesn't recognise it yet... If he doesn't, we move on...

An AFL player should never be forgiven for that...how long have they both been playing and how many reviews would have Dunn seen of Chaplin let alone played him (not necessarily position). Surely he should know which foot he kicks off. I like Lyndon in the team but he was poor early against the Tiges, I thought he redeemed himself as the game went on.

Found it.... Love this version of the band.
  7. He was our most important player today... ...a bit quiet in the 2nd half (spent some time on the bench and at HF) but he & Kennedy are the ones that got things rolling again in the last Q.
  8. Still roll this one out for a listen every now and then. I liked this version of the band best with Tim Gaze on guitar... Now...what was this thread about??? Clayton Oliver, not sure about 'Fence' and his dream state but we've got a beauty here. Apart from his aggression, vision etc. I really love how the ball seems attracted to his fingers, his touch on the footy, it's like a magnet. The ball seems to drawn into his hand.

Question????? Watching a tribute on RAGE for Jon English and Ross Hannaford early this morning... There are some clips that I just can't find on youtube, on the Hanna tribute their was one with Paul Hester that's a ripper... ...and a couple of months ago there was a live clip of the early pre Neil "Split Enz" doing a live version of "Stranger then Fiction". I really loved that pre Neil band probably more than the Neil band. Not knocking Neil though, I had a lot of time for Crowded House. Does anyone know where you can get these clips or at least get to see them again???

Hendrix really rated Terry Kath (the guitarist you are talking about). I loved this version of the band but couldn't stand the versions post Kath, fell asleep in their show at the bowl...so bland. Kath accidentally shot himself unfortunately. Seem to remember a story of playing Russian roulette.
  11. So...it seems Oliver likes to under promise and over deliver. Says he changed clubs in the TAC to try and get a few games then come back as a 19 yo in the hope of being drafted...He wins the Morrish. Says he will be happy to be picked up as a late round pick...Picked up as a first rounder by us at number 4. Says he's looking to play at Casey and continue his development with the hope of maybe getting a game later in the year (this did worry me at the time)...Looks set for round 1 and not just as a fringe player. If he say he's looking to consolidate his place in the team...then we might be looking at a Brownlow medalist.
  12. If he is smart he will say absolutely nothing about the EFC situation...he and more so we don't need to be drawn into this one.
  13. Finds the ball beautifully in traffic, has great game sense and his vision & decision making look to be top shelf. Looks like we've got another one right. edit: and by the way he was up against some serious opposition in the middle, looked at home...
  14. When I looked at some of the early footage put up I thought maybe it was his physical strength that was his advantage. I wanted to see what his peripheral vision and awareness was like ... further video showed him to also be very aware of what's around him and his decision making and ability to pick out the right option by hand was more that good, close to if not elite as 'ProDee' noted.
  15. I think I will 'Mach', he seems to understate himself and then do the opposite. ...the Cook thing still haunts me though.
  16. “I’m not really expecting too much. I probably won’t be ready for AFL just quite yet, so I’d be happy with a couple of games. I’ll stick to VFL and develop my football and I hope to be at the club for a few years,” he said. I really don't like this... The last player I heard this talk from was Lucas Cook. I liked the comment from Weideman recently saying he was pushing for a game first round, he probably won't get there but why put limitations on yourself. Oliver doesn't seem to be an overly confident kid and maybe this is his way of dealing with things, set expectations low and overachieve on them. I sure hope so.
  17. I think this is really good news, we are not putting kids under pressure anymore and expecting them to come straight in as the saviours. We now have some real star power at the club, let the kids develop. By the way, from what I've seen of him at training he is a big chance to play game 1...he's just not expected to win it for us.

Wines still to re-sign with Port.... 'picket' !!!!!!
  19. I would say that Brayshaw, Viney, Tyson, VDB & Salem have already surpassed those on that list with the exception of Trenners who we can hopefully add to the new list with Oliver & Petracca. We're already ahead of where we were and moving further forward...
  20. Nathan is not Robinson Crusoe there; the 2 players mentioned in recent posts, Cotchin & Selwood are putrid when tagged. I'm hoping they're much better than that or we're going nowhere.

Not really 'C & B' but many of them were. Cook was taken earlier than expected as was Gysberts a couple of others could be argued about as well. ...but there is no doubt Scully & Watts were consistently talked about as no.1 picks.
  22. This is what I really like about him, he may not be ready round 1 and plenty on here think he needs time at Casey. He may well. ...but he is not putting limits on himself, he's having a crack. We had another KPF early pick a few years ago who only talked of development time at Casey and where is he now.
  23. A lot, including EFC supporters would say we paid overs for him giving up a 2nd round pick.
  24. They did say they expected at worst he would only miss a few games, they were caught out on that one. Agree though that it's not a disaster but it could have been avoided. Now we have to make the best of the situation. The 4 year contract is what Melksham wanted to get the deal over the line. Nothing to do with indications...
