He said he expected us to finish in the finals. That's a pretty definitive statement. If we don't I expect the coach and FD will be under pressure.

You're kind of right there 'Trump'... ...and it's always hard to really know by watching the tele and listening the experts who tell us what we already see. Reckon they could fill us in on what we don't see but I guess they are too busy watching the action rather than doing their job..on a tangent. ...but back to your point, he seems to be gettting caught deep to often for my liking. I would rather see Tommy in here.

Demonland Podcast Featuring Glen Bartlett Wednesday 1/7 @ 8:30pm
rjay replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I heard the interview and thought he presented well. We don't hear a lot of him and I guess that's not a bad thing overall...we don't need dial a quote Jeff or Eddie everywhere. It would be good to hear from him just a little more though. Particularly when big issues arise. It also seems we're not in as bad a financial position as many have painted. He said the balance sheet was strong and if as you've both said if we can raise a mill we won't need to borrow from the AFL. We've been around for 160 years and intend to be around for another 160 years and beyond. He also talked about the future of the AFL and a new team in Tassie and the overall strength of the competition going forward. Rather than less teams we will maybe look at 2 more or even 4 more clubs over the next 20 plus years (don't remember the time frame). In other words said Jeff was talking through his a.... As for performance, he said our goal was to make finals...it didn't seem like one of those just sayin' goals but a legitimate and expected goal. I would say Goody and the FD would have a lot of questions to answer if we don't. On another issue, said the club are fully behind Nev to a person and doing everything they can do to stamp out the poor race based behaviour of faceless fans. -
Being played out of position...simple.

I think we both were pretty much wanting an external review. Of course it's one thing to have a thorough review and another thing altogether to take action on it. ...but if things don't improve this year we will have wasted another year but will probably get that review... I hope.
-
Not yet it's not... We got 3 good pics this year that we otherwise wouldn't have had. The coming draft is a raffle with no exposed form and the father son/academy picks.

Story by Tom Brown...not Mr. Reliable 'dazz'. I wonder what Brown's average is this year? Just about everything he's thrown up has been thrown out. I would expect Cameron will be well looked after by Brisbane. They would be mad to let him go but if he wanted to move I'm sure we would welcome him with open arms.

Of course some in the Northern states who can't stand Smith, Bellamy and Storm found it condescending. Always looking for the negative. It was a great gesture and I'm sure it was taken in the right way by the players.
-
All sounds good but... Check out what's happened with the Warriors. ...by the way what a class act the Storm are.. Have great admiration for Bellamy, Smith and Hoffman. https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/teams/warriors/i-got-a-bit-emotional-storm-coach-lifts-lid-on-that-touching-address-to-warriors/news-story/0ba7e4b1b6ef2ccb3ccf5df0f3b27194

Either that or the whole comp will have to be played in Melbourne... ...or maybe it moves to the NT as someone suggested a while back. Calling ' @binman'

Also screws us for the Freo game the following week. So we get one normal game out of the first 6. Maybe Freo have to come here now for that one????
-
They've had their peaks & troughs...but not like we have. Hinkley & Buckley are far from over the line yet either. ...but the Goodwin rollercoaster is a concern. Mahoney is another that must come under scrutiny. They've got this year to sort it out... Where is the brand they talk of? The only brand we have is that of a flakey football team.
-
I don't think he can pick a team 'Nev'... I also think he a has big problem with communication. He continually tells us the team is not connecting and we are not playing our brand. The evidence tells me that we bomb the ball forward, anyone can see that. He tells us it's not the game plan...'sat' tells us we're all stupid, it's not the game plan. Well Goody you have a problem because the players don't understand the game plan after 4 years. We coughed the ball up today and Geelong played keepings off. Whilst on communication, the explanation of Bennell being omitted would make Sammy Kekovich proud. No wonder the players haven't got a clue...

AVB is unfortunately one of those players that gets better in the fans eyes the less games he plays. Vanders has a red hot go but he was underdone and his skill set is really VFL level on the cusp of AFL. Without the injuries he would have been handy but they have taken there toll on his fitness level and development. He's never going to be an answer, just depth.
-
You're right they are...but Fritsch is again being played out of position this year. Back last year and too deep forward this year. I've lost any faith in him as a coach. Look at today, small forward line and again we bombed in too much. Then we allowed them to chip the ball around at will. Uncontested marks were embarrassing. Surely you adjust to take away their strength, particularly if we've gone in small. You expect forward pressure but there is none if they can chip and mark at will. For me it has to be Bennell, I know it won't be. We have enough contested players in the team, one less won't matter. We don't have skill & class. I was going to say one more might make a difference but possibly he is our only one. Yep, maybe or at least give Brayshaw a bit more game time ahead of Jack. We could change our midfield mix with Salem but he is a lazy footballer unfortunately.
-
Really??? mmmm, sense of humour switch on zero today.
-
A little off topic, but...whilst talking about umpires. One thing I have noticed is the deliberate out of bounds interpretation has been tightened up. You kick the ball and it goes out, you can almost guarantee it will be a free kick against. Almost a default last touch rule.
-
Thanks' @Lord Nev'...that was so funny. Still got the tears streaming down my face.
-
Not just Hibberd but we can't afford to bomb the ball at all...it plays into the Cats biggest strength...but spread their defence and they are in real trouble. Following on from the above point. Stewart is key to their attack from defence, if it's not Melk then it has to be AVB. We cut Stewart out and we're a long way to winning this game.
-
Not when he's on the team sheet as omitted...
-
If we get on top in the midfield and use Gawn's taps to advantage then it will pressure their 2 way running in the midfield, which is probably worse that ours. The midfield battle will decide this one. Harmes will be better value for us in that battle.
-
All I know is that the sooner he is back in, the better we will be. Godwin's messaging was as clear as mud. A fit Bennell will be of more benefit than any of this weeks inclusions with the exception of maybe Pickett.
-
Unfortunately I think it looks as bad as it is...his leg buckled.
-
Not a great game...yet again. Let's hope they can break the mould in the 2nd half otherwise it looks like a good book and an early night.
-
Unfortunately Goody's explanation left things open to interpretation. I've got no problem with him being rested but I do have a problem with him being dropped for Hannan.
