Sloane may indeed be a B&F winner and may indeed talk about being a one club player but that shouldn't and won't discount him from Adelaides long term plans and list management. If they see pick 2 as getting a player from the draft that will add value to their team then Rory just might be the sacrificial lamb.

David Swallow, 1 vote. Pick 2?

When Do We Find Out About the Priority Pick?
McQueen replied to Grimseyisgod's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is blue sky hypotheticals, not reality, but I agree with your sentiments.I'm not fussed about missing out on a pick because I also believe with a fit, best 22 on the field, we will be much, much more competitive. My only concern with not receiving a PP was the trade value it may have presented and we may have used to bolster the team with decent mids. The fact that we've finally got a premiership coach with outstanding development credentials far outweighs the fact that we have not granted a priority pick. -

I'm off to the hardware store to buy some timber and build a bridge. Go Dee's. -
When Do We Find Out About the Priority Pick?

I still remain optimistic about receiving a PP. Waiting to announce it just before and on the same day as the Brownlow is just far too convenient of an opportunity that will help mitigate the senseless commentary on it. -
Good luck to him. He's a 150+ game player and has history at the MFC as well as considerable rapport with a fair chunk of the list which is a hell of an improvement on the blokes Neeld bought in with him as far as development coaches go.

If we can drag ourselves into the top 8 next year it'll be something amazing. I thought we could do it this year right up until Port smashed us in round 1 and then reality returned and smacked me in the face. Roos will change the way we play and think about out team performance. Hopefully that delivers results similar to Daniher's and Northey's a decade before that. It's not impossible however, it's highly unlikely unless we draft in those missing midfielders.

Can Freo remain as composed on the big, big stage as they have tonight? If they can, I reckon they'll be hard to beat.

I called into 'Sports talk' on 720 ABC here in Perth this morning as they had Tadgh Kennelly as a guest and I thought it would be a good opportunity to hear his opinion on Roosy joining the Dee's and also Matthews and Allison's credentials. Summary was he doesn't think Roos will change the team dramatically enough to see it become successful in the near future. Basically reiterated what Roos said about laying the foundations for the incoming successor etc, Ben Matthews was a good honest footballer and will contribute as will Allison to the coaching efforts. I then asked what lines they would coach and interestingly, Tadgh said that Mattews would be coaching the Backline but at what level he didn't say.. This throws up the question of what capacity Rawlings will work in next season? Might he be axed? Will he coach another line group or potentially will be in the running for the Successor position? I had a few other questions to ask but the flogs cut me off because I wasn't talking about the Dockers. Or maybe it was because I was talking about the Dee's... Ed: obvious other question I didn't have the opportunity to ask was going to be if he himself would be finding his way to the MFC.

During his speech at the MVP awards, Joel Selwood mentioned Horlin-Smith could one day make a very good Captain at the Cats. With an endorsement like that, I would think he's locked away at the Cattery for some time yet.
-
Cool. As long as you're allowed to take hangers over the 10 year olds I'll play next year.
-
Just a question, Rollo. Is it just standard rules applicable to forum footy or is it modified in anyway?

I'm not sold on that Chook but point taken.

I was going to add 5 to 8 kilos of muscle "over a full preseason" in my last post but I thought it would be obvious to most.
-
Misson said as much. Reckons there's science to prove it but I reckon he's half full of sht and it was more about Sponsorship and player bonding. Scrap it IMO. I want the players smashing weights in the gym and putting on 5 to 8 kilos of muscle over pre season, not losing the same amountof weight over 10 days in Darwin FCS.

Likewise. Perth is a long way away. Making plans to come over and play next year.
-
We just offered and he accepted a new two year deal. It would be pretty dumb to offer him up as bait following that.
-
If not what you've mentioned above, then surely he should get a big head in the knowledge that Melbourne supporters are still bothering to talk about him 12 months after leaving.
-
That's a big call. I reckon if Dawes gets a good run without injuries and some decent delivery he will remain ahead of Fitzy for a while yet. I won't judge Dawes of this season alone.

Roos was seen with Hogan at a Dymocks bookstore purchasing a fantasy/science fiction novel called 'The Magician' and swapping Pokemon figurines with half of the WCE midfielders (but not Cale Morton).
-
Selwood has just as many runs on the board as these blokes and just as much potential. Whilst I now agree that pick 2 in itself would be overs, I still believe Selwood comes into calculations bundled with other picks/trades from the Eagles.

The clean out continues! Satterley, Nichol and Greaves all Gawn!
McQueen replied to cooko's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would like to thank Satterley for his VFL player reports, Nichol for standing on whoever oppositions leg it was and Greaves for just being there. Seriously though, sometimes you can only be as good as your manager allows you to be and I'll put it out there that these blokes had a pretty ordinary boss to work under for the majority of their tenures. -
Sorry Moon, I was rushing on to a plane and didn't have time to finish what I wanted to say. It's all about consequence and benefit. It would be a delicate and difficult decision making process to let someone of Martins abilities go. He's a goal kicking midfielder that has undoubtedly got all of the tools a side making its way into the top 4 would need to be successful. That's the potential benefit and really a no-brainer if you're eyeing off a premiership window period. The potential consequence would be seeing him run off the rails and disrupt that charge into the top 4 over the next few years. Offering a 2 year contract worth $1M is acknowledging that he is valued in a team sense (but not wanted as an individual) even if it's under the guise of player payment strategy amd hoping like hell he gets his sht together so they can then offer a better, longer term contract.

Why not a 3 or 4 year deal if he's supposedly that good? Tigers want him gone but are willing to persist if that's what it takes.
