Adam, I'm equally as bewildered that you are thinking along those lines when you agree wholeheartedly that we have no midfield depth. How can we expect to breed a 'team first' philosophy when we go out and draft against our needs? -
I think the argument is that we have not been able to witness the quality of the forwards we have because the delivery to them has been really low and of poor quality. Our Inside 50 average is pathetic. The group of Clark, Dawes, Howe, Watts and Hogan all have the ability to mark and kick the ball well. Just need to get it down to them.

The forward line has never been on the park together so your argument is pretty poor. I think we have enough forward line power without Boyd and also consider that it's a once in a life time opportunity to be able to trade a player on for some real midfield Star/s. I'd hate to see Boyd become another Patton and struggle to get on the park in is first couple of seasons whilst our midfield continues to get walloped by the power sides.

Stats mean squat. I think everyone would agree how valuable Crowley is to Freo. Compared to Scullys numbers on paper you would say Scully is the better player. It's not only face value, it's sticking by your word and I believe Roos would be pretty solid in that area. Only way the succession won't happen in a few years is if Board, CEO and Roos aren't comfortable for some reason.

We need seasoned and durable ball winners that can play in the midfield. We have these great 'book-ends' to the team but no guts to help them score goals or to defend. Relying on another set of kids to come in, as good as they appear, will not help the predicament we're in right now.

This is our best our best chance of seeing if Watts can become the player we all want him to become. As much as it may pain some posters on here, we need to take Roos at his word and trust that when he says Watts is an important player for the club he knows what he's talking about. There's lots of other poorly skilled dead wood on the list that needs to go before Watts. -

Isn't it a massive difference in the approach Roos has taken compared to Neeld. Connecting emotionally with the players at the earliest possible time is so crucial. Roos has stated they're great young boys and really wants them to stay at the club and succeed. Neeld on the other hand comes out with "lift your game or otherwise you'll see what VFL footy looks like." Neeld had tickets on himself from word go whereas Roos has only provided positives so far in relation to the players and team in general. I hope Neeld is watching and learning a thing or two from all this, as tough as a lesson it is.

We were all banging on about how MFC was stealing the media spotlight a few years ago when Neeld was hired and all his assistants and their assistants joined. Look how that's turned out? The signing of Roos is massive compared to a new PM. Make it tomorrow!
