Good to see Sparrow using the Grippo

Like the night i took my 13yo son to Rnd 11, 2011 thinking it was our home game but errr... got to the gate and realised it was the Bombers'. Doh! Reckon we were outnumbered about 7 to 1 haha. Ended up sitting behind the cheer squad at the Punt Rd end and had a cracker of a night sticking it right up that arrogant bunch (the Bombers not the CS!!) Green had a night out and i thought Moloney played one of his best games i'd witnessed. Mckenzie pretty good as well. In the end it was one of the best faux pas i ever made...

Lever up approx 10% on last year's season stats Hell so doing pretty well especially since he had a week off in Rnd 5 vs the Bombers due to an ankle. Hasn't gained much in a rankings sense as others have also had some big gains and leap-frogged somewhat. Thanks for raising where Bowey is at. I took another look through each of his match ratings and he only had one significant 'off' match (statistically) vs the Tigers in Rnd 6. I also noticed a drop in his ranking at one point on the weekly season tables which was prior to the Tiger's low rating which didn't make sense. That sent alarm bells ringing so i did a review and found a reference error in one round. After a full rebuild on his data this saw his rating improve approx 9%, jumping him up 4 places. 5% up on his 2022 season and 4% up on his 2021 season so your assessment seemed pretty accurate ty. I've also run a random review on a good sample size of players to ensure the remaining data is not compromised and all's well. Updated season ratings/rankings with Bowey's data corrected... Thanks DZ. So far nothing like omicron but only into day three and thats when that version went from ok to worse lol. Fingers crossed. Massive pressure issues on the plane coming down to land though. This version appears to attack / block up the ear canal!?? Only had that issue once in all my years of flying as an ankle biter on my first ever trip. Yes a number of players off their usual standards vs GC. It seems some aren't handling the interstate trips all that well so far in 2023 for some reason.

Weighted Average Ratings up to & including Rnd 8, 2023 vs H&A Season 2022 After 8 rounds we now have a meaningful data set for 2023. Most players, bar a few, have either improved on their 2022 form (statistically) or matched that form. The two stand outs that haven't... Harmes: We don't know the personal story here so i'm not going to speculate. He also isn't that far off his 2022 form in the limited opportunity and TOG he's had (so far). 13% seems like a fair drop and no doubt hard for a player to turn around in the short term. But given enough weeks to work on things at Casey & on the track / gym he should be able to claw back most of that at some stage. I have faith he will get back to his prior levels at some point this season or next assuming any personal matters are now behind him. A premiership player, a fabulous clubman and a lifelong Demon supporter. He can also play and play well when he's on. Happy to back him in. May: The biggest concern for mine. Coming off two superb years and a flag was always going to be a difficult act to keep following up, especially given the age factor. However a drop off of 25% doesn't explain this in my view. 10% or so? Yep that would seem fair. However, with an interrupted pre-season and start with a calf issue, one can only deduce he may still have some concerns here and that it's limiting his ability to go to his usual full tilt levels on the training track. Which is then playing out on match day as one would expect. Obviously a major cog that determines how well our defence holds up (and for that matter the fate of the team's success as a whole), May's drop off is, for mine, our biggest concern / problem at this point and going forward if we can't get him back to within about 5% - 10% of his 2021/2022 levels. Wishing him all the best for his 200th today & great to have that at the G against Hawks. Aside from that though, was there a chance to manage him in recent times to try and resolve any nagging issues? Maybe there wasn't and there isn't and it's purely a form issue and/or everything's under control physically under supervision from the HPT. If so all good. But my footy radar tells me something's afoot here! BBB & Macca: Only my opinion but i think we need to get one of these fellas back and firing at some stage in the next 4 to 5 weeks if we're to go deep into September action. If we can i would be sending Petty back to his usual role and use as occasional change up / chop out up forward as needed on occasions. The ump dept needs a full review and reset 56. In particular... > it's reluctance.to call HTB after more than sufficient prior which sometimes results in a dangerous sling tackle > it's inconsistency with interpreting HTB, prior, insufficient attempt & incorrect disposal > the stand/outside 5, delay of "play on" calls once player behind mark moves off the mark, in particular set shots where the player shooting for goal is often allowed to arc off the mark and ends up kicking the ball around the player on the mark instead of over it allowimg a much closer shot at goal. > The stand rule where the mark is set for player standing the mark but player with the ball is often off to the side of the mark and is, with few exceptions, not asked to move around to his correct angle behind the mark, where the goals and the player on the mark should be the reference for determining that angle. This often results in player with the ball being able to run up to or past the player on the mark before the umpire calls play on allowing player with ball a massive unfair advantage. > The protected zone. More emphasis now on players moving out of the front of the zone whereas the rule was brought in to stop players from sitting inside the players lateral zones in order to try and prevent player with ball playing on into or kicking to someone on a 45. Oppo players now quite often run through the lateral protected zones and are now not called for 50 meters. > On occasions players who are clearly asked to stand, move backwards off the mark after they took the option to stand. And visa versa with the outside 5 rule. My understanding is you can't do both and once the option is excepted by player in question, to do otherwise is an immediate breach and 50 meters. Fairly certain this was adjudicated as such strictly early on....but some or many umpires have now backed right off on enforecement. > Unless the above issues with the stand rule are resolved with a massive tightening up of how it is adjudicated and governed.... it should be scrapped entirely and we revert back to the old system where there was no stand/outside 5 rule. Bottom line is...from an umpiring perspective the game is a complete mess and state of flux. Major overhaul needed. Will the AFL recognise this and do so? Nope.

Played him very nicely after quarter time

Ryan getting better with each game

Like the Tigers of old in that passage

Another overlooked against Smith just then. Ye olde AFL "different rules for different folk" trick

Picket is silky once he gets on the move. Nice decision maker also

Round 8, 2023 HBS - Suns vs Demons Back from a brief getaway guys hence the delay on this. A nice dose of covid for my troubles on the second last day courtesy of ye olde floating petri dish. Didn't get a chance to see this match so any comments this week are purely from a stats perspective only. First up... our worst Team Rating for the season so far after having our best the week before, albeit against the lowly ranked Kangas. Is this something to do with how good GC were or did we have a bit of an off day? Maybe a bit of both? Clarry regains his No. 1 rating in this match after being pipped by Viney & Tracc in the previous two matches. After having a few off games (statistically only, may still have played his role nicely etc) in Rnd 3 vs the Swans & Rnd 5 vs the Bombers, Gus has bounced back in his last three matches with top 10 rankings (top 5 the last two weeks!). Of note is Max's results in the last two weeks. While still a fair way off his best it's certainly a step up from his expected 'tentative' return from injury against the Tigers where he notched up a very low 1.500 Conversely, May had his worst rating result for the season with a miserly 1.150 That rating is low for anyone let alone May. Wonder what's going on here? If it's an ongoing niggle should we have managed him this week against the Hawks? Sparrow just pipping Tracc! Fritsch an all time howler? Focussing on Clarry he had.... 22 effectives @ 78%, one 1%er, 6 clearances, 1 rebound, 5 inside 50s, 4 tackles, 9 score involvements (the most of either team on the night), 6 intercepts, 449 meters gained and 5 turnovers. Top 5 meters gained.... Tracc 527, Hunter 474, Clarry 449, Brayshaw & Viney on 371 a piece. Atkins from GC the best on the night with 637. deever / Goffy....are you suggesting the Hawks are rotting from the inside here? Pls explain

If the AFL keeps adjusting rules in an attempt to eliminate as much risk / exposure to litigation as possible DP the game as we know it will be unrecognisable at some point. And if that is their ultimate agenda going forward they might need to consider going back to AFL X or a variant thereof and disband the present game. Of course we all know how well the X experiment went last time. A resounding success! Well at least for us anyway 😄

Personally i don't think they'll change it. I reckon they just tried to make it up as they went along using us (Joey) as the whipping boy. Hoping we would roll over and / or the Board would follow their lead in lock step. The idea being to use us as one example / demonstration of how seriously they're now taking their OH&S for potential concussion / injury law suits / claims down the track. Our response as a club was first rate. We stood our ground and finally had the balls to call this chirade out for what it was. .."Feel free to try your shenanigans on someone else if you wish. Oh, and close the door on your way out!"

May i say, some handy feedback & LEG work Read the tea leaves well 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Thank Lucifer We have now moved up the pecking order somewhat. At least the Appeal Board showed it is willing to act independently and saw this nonsense verdict and Wood's case for what it was. And as for Woods....

Two down but can't sway the third Mr Leg? It needs to be a unanimous decision yes?
