Trade Rumours 2023
I guess you have to be in the know tech wise and be a bit of a Seinfeld fan to get that one Bubs. To clarify.... You and/or Red mentioned issues with uploading photos in terms of them being rejected as the file size was 'too big' The solution is 'shrinking' the file size so that it will be accepted by the DL server. The Seinfeld GIF is a famous one and refers to George having just gotten out of a pool and a young lady having walked in on him as he was changing I'll let you make the connection!

You can't leave our only KTF or TF roles up to JVR alone as the rookie. Smith has to play forward if we're to have a decent chance of kicking a winning score. Tomo comes in for Smith forward for mine. And looks like Spargo for JJ as we had one too many inside mids last week. Woe had a very good first half and a bit (till knocked about in the third Q) at Casey. Had he played the entire game out at the level he played in the first half he would've been vying for the JJ replacement me thinks. While he probably lacks the ability to read the game and get to the right spots as often plus consistency, he has the fitness, speed out of congestion and class with ball in hand when he's on. Will make a very handy (or better) outside mid/winger. Not far off a recall if he puts a three - four quarter game in similar to last week imv.

2023 Injury List
Normally i'd say 100% uncle but sometimss the recovery from these serious foot injuries can be a week to week proposition. No doubt they'll want to get some actual game time load in to him prior to finals to get him cherry ripe but we are fast running out of weeks. If he comes good and we have the bye but Casey is an option then we might have no choice but to play him there for half a game or so. Gus is in the midst of possibly having his best season in the red & blue, at least in terms of the high levels he is reaching most weeks. Senior player & very well versed with media now. He's more than capabale of wearing various hats, knows when to switch things on and rarely puts in a bad game. Least of our worries imo. If we had wheeled out a 2nd year rookie etc to handle a presser like this or he was in a form slump then i might be a bit more understanding.

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Bottom line it comes back to your earlier excellent post Bubs. If the umpire is unsure as to whether it's been touched or not and wants to go to the ARC, the default has to be "it's a goal" unless clearly proven otherwise by the video evidence at hand. If they don't change it up to the above default (under a "i think it might have been touched but not sure....pls check" scanario), then all oppo players involved in close over-the goal-line kicks like this should always call touched ball regardless of whether it was or wasn't. It will be a blight on the game but it appears that is what the AFL is happy to go with. So bring it on!

Nonsense....the mainstream press will often make anything up to run with the preferred "AFL" view of things. There was an interview with a Carlton player who was near the goal line contest and they asked him the same thing.... he said no way you could make anything out as the crowd noise was just too loud to hear anything like that. Brodie Kemp i think.

Told the war office on Monday, prior to this article, that if this is the way the AFL's going to adjudicate a goal review and they're "happy with the review" then every close goal (where there's an oppo player/s on the goal line) should now be claimed as "touched" straight away regardless of whether it was or wasn't. Nice to see we are the first cab off the rank for a change. Maysie on the front foot... https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/08/15/ive-instructed-the-other-defenders-mays-revelation-after-score-review/

Possibly coconut flavouring instead of coconut cream Red. Same thing was happening on the cruise we went on back in May. They did a great job with the presentation but it was like having a pineapple slurpy! Any decent Pina should also start with Bacardi Gold as the base with hints of caramel, almond & most importantly... banana!!

Petracca A high Centre Half Forward
I'm not 'for this' as such but it beats the FD's current structure of mostly playing the likes of JJ, Harmes, Kozzy, Spargy pants and other little people in this position. Bilbo Baggins next? Ideally this could have been the role for Petty but of course the footy gods got us again. When you think about it the footy gods have spoken during 2023 and their answer??.... BBB..... "Can i give it a go?" Footy Gods..... "Nope not your turn this year son, we have no time to fix knees, still working our way through all the Covid nonsense" Macca... "I'd like some more silverware, hows about fixing my bloody foot again" Footy gods... "Sorry, you were 2021's man" Petty... "How about me, i'm ready and really wanna play here and i've had enough of this dour defensive rubbish?" Footy Gods.... "We gave you a chance as a defender, you should've stayed there. Feel free to come back next year" Smith... "I'm not asking to play anywhere sirs. But after so many injuries i'd just like to keep playing a bit more please" Footy gods... "Hmmm...anywhere in particular?" Smith... "CHF would be nice" Footy gods (after much deliberation)... "Oh ok ok if you must. You appear to have earned this one. We aren't very patient though so make the most of it son".

Re: 18.4.3. (c) This is the one that Max gets pinged for quite a bit. He puts the arm out to block / fend off. According to Razor it's ok to come in against your oppo ruckman and jump into them early so they can't get to the drop (not with knee/s raised however) But... you must be able to get back / reach back to the drop yourself and get your hands on the ball. If you don't it's considered a free for a block. I'm not sure if that last part also applies to a straight arm / fend off that we see from Max and some of the other rucks on occasions.

That was a perfect spoil with Tomo bunting 95% ball and possibly a feather touch on his hand. Apparently we are now playing basketball depending on the ump in question. It also resulted in a goal. There was no chopping of arms or any front on contact. It was and always should be a play on call. The 2nd worst call i've witnessed at Casey this season.

PREGAME: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn
Woe was VG yesterday until his head knock and a slight corky about half way through the third. Got to plenty of contests and became an excellent link out of congestion with some reasonably clean disposal. Play him off the bench as a part time winger (when resting Hunter) and outside mid for shortish minutes sharing this role with Kozzy. We are struggling with our ability to get the loose ball and spread and / or cover the spread once the ball spills to the outside at CBs & stoppages. Playing JJ, Gus, Clarry & Viney in the same team is not the answer. Too much inside ploddy stuff here. Kozzy can't do it all as we need his pressure inside 50 and goal kicking of course but imo we also need to see more of him at CBs. More than 10% anyway. Should be pushing this to 15% - 20% and get Chandler to play the Kozzy pressure role while he's out of the 50. It's either that or we somehow need to push Rivers into some CBs and a few stoppages in the middle and wings. Cover his role with someone....maybe McVee? Need to add some speed at bounces & stoppages. We're getting smoked on the outside too often now. Get Woe in and start blooding him if fully fit. He's ready he just needs the tank which he's better off building at AFL level. He'll have quiet moments and quarters but the quality is there and he'll get more involved as the experience & tank grows.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
Non of the experienced present FIT stock on our list, bar maybe T-Mac IF (and it's a big if) he finds any sort of form in the next few weeks, are "The Answer" Bubs. Even T-Mac may not be "The Answer" beyond this season if he has further set-backs or can't find his mojo in the off-season. BB (not you!!) is a looking like a possible no go for 2024 and probably won't see him return. All are just temporary fill ins at best until we either trade in a genuine experienced (rated) TF or whenever (another IF) Jefferson comes good. We are very reliant on JVR continuing to improve gradually and come to the fore. Jefferson to eventually find his feet. And of course Petty (another if!??) when he fully recovers. Now 2024. Will be surprised if Schache makes the cut for 2024. Seems pretty obvious we will need to trade in a rated KTF for 2024.

Round 22, 2023 MCG - Blues vs Demons Pretty decent return for Clarry. Only 10% off his season average rating. Gus topping the ratings. Viney would have been up with his peers had he not had a massive game high 13 turnovers. Forward efficiency dropping away with the Petty effect and pressure? The Blues not that much better aside from accuracy at goal with a significant conversion advantage. The team rating a massive 19% off the season average is a big worry, even if against VG opposition. The Top 6 this week holding the line nicely though, along with Joel Smith. Salem surprisingly rating better than my own impressions of what i saw on the night. The rest dropped away with many apparently stepping in a steaming pile of Blue doggy doo.
