GAMEDAY: Rd 22 vs Carlton
If we keep playing our normal game instead of a change up to allow for the comditions we just might! Still trying for the clean chains of possessions in greasy conditions. Players like ANB & Sparrow looking to take on the tacklers instead of the quick surge kick forward. Makes no sense unless the oppo aren't closing and hopeless with their pressure. Unfortunately the Blues aren't one of those teams. So we either change the way we play to align with the conditions or it will be a coin flip, or worse! Will the players get this general message at half time and reset? If not why not !!??

The two Rucks selection is now looking problematic in this weather. Surely Grundy comes out for Hibb and Smith goes forward!! JVR as the (roughly) 20% chop out for Max in the middle and obviously forward ruck duties JVR's hit outs to advanatage % in the last few matches is as good or a smidgen better than Grundy's season average.- Stats Files - 2023
Might be the effect of missing a full pre-season starting to impact Kent. Pure speculation but listening to many players who've had that interruption over the years, they all say that anytime their pre-season's effected it tends to result in a less than optimum performance during the year. Not sure what's happened to Harmes. No one door stops the payers much and even if that were to happen they're all so well trained to say nothing now. The other one is May. Might also be a pre-season issue. Wasn't there some sort of calf issue early on that he was recovering from? Missed the first game or two?- What they are saying at Princes Park

I suspect something like 85% - 90% LD. Clarry will be chomping at the bit after being held back for a number of weeks, well beyond when he felt he was ready. We have a rampaging Tracc in career best form. Max capable of winding his game back to new levels we haven't seen. Kozzie playing alot better in his limited mid minutes and pretty dangerous. Viney tearing it up since Clarry was out. JVR having one of his best games last week. One of the best defenses in the AFL assuming May fires up. My only doubt is the return of Grundy that unsettles alot of the ruck cohesion in the middle, built up since his departure. However, provided Goody recognises that we've gelled in the middle big time 'without' Grundy and keeps him away from significant chunks at CBs, hopefully that won't happen. If that's the case i reckon we will send them packing. If it doesn't then it will probably become a bit of a [censored] fest & another coin toss.- What they are saying at Princes Park
Amen to that. The Blues are about to feel what it's like to cop the pointy end of the Demon cattle prod.- What they are saying at Princes Park
I feel they've probably underestimated the impact of the return of Clarry. If he plays anywhere near his best and the rest of the boys show up, the Blues might be in for a bit of a let down me thinks.- PREGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
I was at the game. And all the other home games. Grundy is ok around the ground. Not as influential at CBs as Max imo. I've watched enough games to know that as soon as Grundy spends significant time at CBs, the oppo starts to gather momentum, by evening up or winning the clearance count. Many of the oppo's come backs from deficits have started when Grundy spends major minutes in the middle. Play him forward, play him around the ground if needed for a chunk of time. If Goody's learned anything about the duo, he won't play Grundy in the middle for significant minutes at any stage. With one exception...the result's beyond doubt and we can afford to 'manage' Max on the bench.- PREGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Lordy no thanks 55. We'd probably end up either well behind or so far behind, we'd be chasing tail for the most part or kissing the game Goodbye by half time. Has to be Max for the first 3 quarters or so .....then Grundy, but only with the game well in hand imv. Grundy spending significant time at CBs (aside from coming on as sub late) = handing the momentum / game to the oppo. The diff between Max & Grundy is chalk and cheese. Not sure what's changed that has lead Goody to back flip on the Grundy to VFL decision so soon. Yes Petty is out but Grundy hardly demanded a call up based on his two matches at Casey. You have to ask what was the point of all the 'forward craft' learnings nonsense we heard from the FD here. There was certainly no learnings that i witnessed.- PREGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Clarry in for Harmes a no brainer and great news. As for Grundy i just can't see the why.... So Petty is out. He was effectively a forward and playing the role beutifully with impact. We've seen with our own eyes how Max has grown another leg once Grundy exited "letting Max be Max". Joel Smith was surely the next option before Grundy yet we don't bring in either Tomlinson or Hibb (sub) which allows Smith to play that role. So looks like Smith is playing the Tomo role. That part might work but i'm not sold on Grundy into the team. As i've said from half way through the season.... sub at best.- How far away is Matt Jefferson?
2025 likely. 2024 is possible but probably just a brief taste for both him & the FD to see where he's at and for him to see what's required to play at the next level a la Chandler in 2022. His second half at Casey so far has seen a step up in consistency and attack at the ball in the air. He's a natural in terms of kicking action at the sticks and has beautiful 'sticky' hands when marking. Plenty of upside potential and for those who remember, i see him as a similar style player to that of the Duke but with a much more reliable kicking action.... IF he is willing to put the hard yards in. Smart footballer but needs to build the body to acquire the confidence & from that, the ability to impact at AFL level.- 2023 Injury List
Absolutely THB. Fingers crossed his rehab sees him freed up a little more, allowing him to wind back the clock somewhat. We'll have a better idea where he's at after the next two weeks at Casey.- Midfield Performances Minus Clarrie
Correct..... Grundy was taking approx 56% of CBs before he was dropped and roughly 50% of around ground ruck work. Since then Max has taken approx 80% to 90% of CBs with JVR providing the chop out for the balance. Ruck contests, Max anywhere between approx 60% (eg; vs Nth) to 90% (eg; vs Lions). Max vs Grundy, especially at CBs....chalk & cheese! Momentum in matches too often lost whenever Grundy takes up significant time in the middle. Yes JVR took 38% of ruck contests against North. Now admittedly the FD were no doubt looking to manage Max but this is still a hefty ask for the young forward to take on in any match. With Petty gone for the year, we now have only one genuine tall KF who is fit and firing at AFL level. Albeit still learning the ropes as a rookie. JVR doing a sterling job though, both in the ruck and in a general forward sense. We 'might' see T-Mac available in a few weeks. Yes i realise he his available now but i'm talking getting him up to speed for AFL via the VFL. That's still at least two weeks or more away imo. In the meantime we can't afford to risk JVR in the ruck. Hence it is looking like Grundy comes in to play a role and no doubt cover for Petty along with taking the bulk of the forward ruck work and CB chop out role instead of JVR. While that's great from a ruck POV and protecting our young colt, i still feel Grundy is not the medium to long-term answer. Much rather we gave Scache a run in the next two weeks. He's a better forward vs Grundy In every sense but can also take most of the ruck contests up forward and at CBs instead of Roohey. Won't happen but imho a mistake and an opportunity (to trial Scache in the next 2 weeks) lost.- 2023 Injury List
Reading between the lines, if that is possible with a Clarry interview... Is there a disconnect between player, the HPT and the coaches/assistant coaches ideas as to what he has to tick off at training vs where each of them (including Clarry hinself) 'thinks' he is at recovery wise. I get the impression Clarry believes he's been right to go for a while but is being held up by the either the HP process (or head of) and/or one or more of the coaches. Possibly just the HP dept! In other words, Clarry believes it's just a training session to get through, which in his eyes is a minor thing with a few easy hurdles, but that he may be blocked by someone (or others) imposing overly severe hurdles (in his eyes). I get the impression he is skirting around all that. Trying not to blurt something out along those lines and aware that it would not be a good look to go public with any sort of disunity type issue no matter how miniscule, small or something a little more significant (for him)?
