Cam Mooney on SEN suggested that Wojo would have a LONG holiday.

Funny how years ago people said Jimmy Bartel was too slow to be a good midfielder.
-
His 73% disposal efficiency compared well with the team's 61%

Totally agree Fn. I Know a number of people involved with other clubs, and ALL rate Neeld very very highly.

6 Jones 5 McKenzie 4 Magner 3 McDonald 2 Rivers 1 Jamar

Good to see Williams back in the seniors. 3 goals last week, and hopefully improvement from here as his rustiness disappears.

When they get the processes right, and this will take time and a lot more training until it is second nature to them, the scoreboard will reflect it.

At last, commonsense and an understanding of the realities that confront us. Neeld has my total support atm. I hope and fervently pray he still has it in 3 years time.

6 Howe (although the 50% DE is a worry) 5 Jones 4 Watts 3 Clark 2 McDonald 1 Trengove

Richmond have been training and playing the same game plan for 3 years. Melbourne for 3 weeks. Richmond played their last 2 games at night. Melbourne have played in 30 and 31 degree heat (and each player lost an average 3.2kgs last week). Might explain their being knackered by half time. These realities were not trotted out by Neeld, who I thought gave a good presser. Why not stop the collective hand wringing until season's end, and actually see if (and how much) they improve in that time.

Like you Redleg, I saw some positives in the tripe shown today. Many here don't realize how energy sapping constant free kicks to the opposition are. And the amount of diving, head ducking and shoulder dropping (a Selwood family trait) that was rewarded was unbelievable - are WC trained to do it? Tommy Mac showed that he will be a player, the captains gave their all and Clark (who, if the maggots were consistent, would have received 5 frees) kicked 5 without taking a mark. The pharmacist pointed out that the WC midfield group were considered no good 3 years ago, but stuck to their structures and roles - and look at them now. I'll wait until the end of the season before I contemplate the slashing of wrists and the burning of personnel that regularly occurs on this site. And the comparisons with Fitzroy are laughable. The one thing that my 58 years of watching the various forms of dross served up by this club has provided is an appreciation of the 4 winning grand finals I've attended. The present coach has given me genuine hope that I'll see another one before I move on.

Exciting to watch Demons over the years
angrydee replied to Bobby McKenzie's topic in Melbourne Demons
Barry Vagg, Warren Dean, "Doc" Roet, Stuart Spencer, Ian Ridley, John Lord, Laurie Fowler, Frank Davis, John Beckwith and Tony Sullivan to name a few more. I like defenders. -
OMG, some sense being stated. As long as he improves and continues to learn, I, too, will be happy.

My, my, a little bit of sense in the midst of the collective wrist wringing. Neeld said that the players are now at a football university. For the last 4 years, they've been at a football kindergarten. It's a big jump from kinder to uni. And a number will drop out on the way.

Port Adelaide v Melbourne NAB Cup Week 4
angrydee replied to GawnWithTheWind's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we can all put off slashing our collective wrists for a few weeks, we can see what happens when the real stuff starts. Until then I don't give a ff what happens. The razor will come out if we don't beat the Lions convincingly. -
At least we won the contested footy 132 - 114. Otherwise we were pretty awful. An almost full strength hawks looked like a well oiled machine. Howe & Jones were good. Tynan showed great promise.

Actually Macca, I thought that Riddles on many occasions snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with strange positional moves that often resulted in defeat. He was a master of 'robbing Peter to pay Paul'. Skilts, on the other hand, I thought did a terrific job with minimal resources and was unlucky not to make the finals. I was sad to see him sacked.

Laurie Fowler in an interview in this week's Inside Football says that the players were so in awe of RDB that they became tentative and inhibited because they were afraid of making a mistake in front of TGM. As an aside, he stated that big Carl was the best coach he played under (they included Hafey & RDB).

I think that Tommy Mc will one day have us all salivating.
