McDonald's debut is one of the best I've seen for a defender in a long while. Bennell and Jetta are now starting to show a little of what is required. Blease was certainly worth the wait.
What we're seeing is the result of Bailey's coaching. A good coach can turn things around pretty quickly. Look at Essendon - a rabble last year and a team on the rise now. Today was a well drilled team vs a team in transition - who as a result are not a TEAM. A captain who misses 2 goals that he once would have aced. He should be dropped - captain or not. Sylvia selfishly going for goal and missing everything when he should have given off. The kids are getting games and when they're finally drilled with a decent game plan things should turn fairly quickly.
JW displayed anger and frustration - he showed that he hates losing. So did Trengove. McKenzie shows it in his play. The captain and vc should be any 2 of those 3.
The lack of leadership was particularly obvious when the heads started to drop after all those easy confidence sapping misses in the 1st qrtr. No one there to motivate and stop the morale loss. Carltank then kicked 11 in a row LED by THEIR captain (12 poss, 5 ga's, 2 goals). That's 66 points out of a 76 point loss!
Successful clubs turn assistants over every 2 - 4 years. Fresh ideas, enthusiasm etc. They should all be turfed. Mark Williams has been there for 11 years.
Why doesn't she write about the factions and fracturing that is now starting to happen at tigerland. Oh that's right, that's what she wants to keep out of the news.
It was apparently the SENIOR players who were complaining about things. Well judging by their actions on the field this year - they're part of the rot.
