  1. I'm giving you the middle finger as I type! Disgrace.
  2. Yep. I was always about best available! Hang on, is that what we're talking about?
  3. Garland, so long as he can get himself right with the injury, is nowhere near the cross-roads. In fact, he is in my top 5 most important players at the club.
  4. It was to symbolise how young they are, and therefore how wrong any physical attraction to them would be. But yes, you aren't far off on the drinks bit
  5. Absolutely. Without bias, we have the strongest young defense in the competition. I think Emma Quayle alluded to that recently, noting that she rates Frawley and Garland as the two best young defensive talls. By the way, if Gawn and/or Fitzpatrick end up settling into the forward line, you always can throw Martin back into the defense. Did we forget how much potential he has shown down there before being put into the forward-ruck position?
  6. Ummm because we got him at 18? I think the ratings work on the basis of what clubs did with the picks available to them. It's a no-brainer that overall we dominated the draft, because you can't beat picks 1 & 2. But look at North and where they were positioned with their picks compared to ours, and they also did well, in harder circumstances. This is why they would have got an A+. I don't necessarily agree with that, as we all know that Scully + Trengove > All, but so be it.
  7. I love it. But then copious amounts of wine will do that to you.
  8. I suppose that that statement is equally as wrong as saying I'd rather the other two, given they are both barely of legal drinking age!
  9. It sounds like Ball was never in our plans once he nominated for the ND. Also speaks volumes about how we rate the guy on the field, that we would have been happy to pick him up for free, but never contemplated wasting a precious top 20 pick on him. He was never in our plans as a National Draft selection. We fought hard for 2 years to get those picks, and we weren't going to blow them on a guy who is 25 and has a suspect body. Just as we wouldn't have picked McDonald in the ND had he chose to nominate. There is a huge, huge difference between a PSD pick and a ND pick. Ball would have been tremendous value in the PSD, but is clearly not ahead of the likes of Gysberts and Tapscott.
  10. If you don't like the original format, you wouldn't have tuned in. Lets be honest, only hardcore losers like our good selves enjoy watching and following the draft, and we would have been very happy to sit there and watch the reaction of clubs and players as names are read out. In between rounds, it would have been good for them to interview either a player or a coach of some sort, do a proper rundown of the players selected, and then get back to it. Draft night felt like a reminiscing session at a balls club!
  11. While I completely disagree about the talent bit, I hope you're correct. It would be great for both parties if Newton is picked up by the GC17 and then we're free to rookie another young player. Not to mention that I think Newton may benefit from a change of clubs, because he is clearly not making it happen at Melbourne
  12. It had to be said! Redlegs, give us some more information please. Who/what/where?
  13. Show me a potential gun forward in this current draft, and we'll have something to debate over. If anyone was even close to the talent of Watts, they would have gone top 3 in this draft. Butcher, the best of the lot, didn't even make it into the top 5. That says to me everything I need to know about the risks associated with taking a KP at 11 and 18, when there is still plenty of other talent available. Like you, I had no idea who Gysberts was, and was surprised, but this didn't seem like a pressured or last-minute decision, as all other potential pick 11s were still very much available at the time. We obviously went into the night knowing he was our guy, so we'll have to reserve judgment until some better Youtube vision of the guy wearing red and blue is available. Edit: I apologise that you had to experience that Foxtel coverage. I wanted to cut my ears off, it was that bad!
  14. I wasn't necessarily talking to you. I've gone into this draft thinking our forward options are much better than the perception of some. Watts, Jurrah and Bate can all take a mark and are both tall and mobile, than you have an amazing array of medium players like Sylvia, Morton (could well end up as our CHF), now Tapscott etc... who can all take a good grab and kick goals. In Gawn we got someone who, at 300cm won't really struggle to take a pack mark (footage of him suggests he really can mark the thing), so stick him in the goal square to try and mark or bring the ball to ground where guys like Jurrah, Aussie, Maric and even Watts really excel. Fitzpatrick is also someone who could potentially end up being a big tall forward and a secondary ruckman. If you look at the talls we chose, we went with guys who can potentially serve two purposes, thus not putting all of our eggs into one basket. We obviously didn't feel that anybody out there at 11/18 was good enough to become our FF target for the next decade, so we went with quality. And you can never have too much quality or midfield depth.
  15. This thread needs to be placed under lock and key and unleashed 5 years down the track. In the meantime...
  16. This is both the best and worst photo I have seen in a while. Bailey's mo is just so, so very wrong.
  17. Richmond went into tonight with picks 3 and 19, compared to our 1,2,11 and 18. In the famous words of people who shall remain anonymous... KOTFD!* *I added a subtle F in there :D
  18. Please note that Fitzpatrick is more a forward than a ruckman, and from the limited footage I've seen, Gawn can mark and kick a footy, so there is nothing to suggest either of these won't become a multi-dimensional tall. We went with what we believed was best available. You can't dispute that. Nobody wants another Luke Molan!
  19. They noted that Fitzpatrick is more of a forward than a ruckman, but when you look at the state of our rucks at the moment, we're about 5 short.
  20. Is that Gysberts highlights package or a Scully highlights package? Not sure about this kid, but gees Scully is a gun!
  21. Not that I would know, but I feel for Grimes. Hopefully somebody rookies him, because if he has his brother's attitude and work ethic, he's a good project player.
  22. Nah, we're committed to taking Newton and Meesen, and have no more space on the list. That is unless somebody takes Meesen...
