Yes he can kick. Sometimes he fluffs it, and he isn't a perfect user of the footy. But for a lock down defender, his kick is adequate. The problem is that he's being asked to clear the ball out of defence and provide run. This should not be his role, and this comes down to us not having enough skills at half back to run the footy out. Most FBs in the competition do not often drive the ball forward, it's simply not their role. That McDonald can take on his opponent and provide us with run because he is so fit and has such great endurance is just a bonus. I'm sure his kicking can and will improve over time, but the thing he has that you can't teach, is a defensive nous. He is a brilliant defender!

No he isn't. He's a 21 year old key defender who has done an amazing job every week, in one of the most under seiged backlines going around, who takes on and beats the best defender every single week, and who creates countless attacks the other way. Yes his kicking isn't the best, but he is an A grade defender, which is his primary role! And as I said before, anyone who goes every single week like I do, will note that he is clearly struggling with that corked thigh he got earlier this year. He gets work done at every break, and his running is completely compromised. Not to mention he's getting rested a lot more during games than he was before.

It's a good day at the MFC when Tom McDonald is our biggest problem.

If you want to watch something great, do yourself a favour and watch Prisoners of War. It's the show Homeland is based on (Homeland is amazing, but doesn't come close to this show), and is about to start filming its 3rd season. I watched the entire 2nd season in one weekend. Season 2 starts on SBS this week, and season 1 is available on DVD. If you love suspense, drama, and watching people getting beaten up, watch it.

Yes I was there and yes I saw plenty of Melbourne supporters around me cheer his substitution. It was also another appalling move by Neeld who has methodically destroyed his confidence and toyed with him.

Can't blame him if he wants a fresh start. Absolutely. I had a chat to him at the end of last season and his confidence was shot. He was saying that his poor form was due to not having any consistency in his role, having played everywhere during the year, including Casey where he was given different roles but never told to replicate them at AFL level. We've seen what that sort of thing can do. Watts is a perfect example of that. I get as annoyed as anyone when Morton has brain farts, and I made it abundently clear earlier in the year. Nobody expects us to just slap him on the arse and say "no worries" when he stuffs up, but it goes both ways. We need to applaude his good work and I for one thought he was excellent in the first half. What dumb footy commentators pick on are turnovers. What I saw was a guy who was busting his gut to run into position, when most others were stagnant. Neeld doesn't seem to have a lot of time for players who don't do the right thing, yet he kept Morton on the ground all game. That says to me that he saw beyond the turnovers, and so should we.

Good on you. Ever played AFL at the highest level and been booed by 30,000 of your own fans? [censored] off with this hero behaviour. You have no idea what you would do in that situation. I bet you'd want to run away. At the end of the day we lost because we lost the plot in the first quarter and there was no coming back from that. It was not Morton's fault, just as nobody here is blaming Green for missing goals, or Sellar giving away a free for holding, or Jamar handballing into the hands of his opponent. It was one horrible turnover, and Morton more than payed for it.

Cale Morton ran off the ground and supporters around me were cheering. FFS imagine running off with 30,000 people heckling you, then having the coach yell at you. You would want to bury yourself! He obviously did not turn the ball over on purpose, and as annoyed as we and Neeld were, I bet nobody was angrier or felt worse than Morton. Give him a break FFS. If Neeld was so furious he would have subbed him off. End of story.
