Given what we've seen in the last few years, I don't think Hird takes any notice of what the media says. He's clearly a driven man with incredible levels of self-belief. Some would say it's strength of character, others will say its delusion.

What is your favourite TV/Radio commentary team?
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I didn't see the program, but I don't think having an opinion that Hird will coach to the end of the year is, in itself, necessarily biased. I'm not an Essendon or Hird supporter and I think Hird will see the year out. Do I think he should? That's a different question. -

Must be in the way he said it. -
What is your favourite TV/Radio commentary team?
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
On radio, my favourite callers - by along way - are the duo of Tim Lane and Tony Leonard on 3AW. Passionate, accurate and with a sense of propriety when necessary. I find SEN's calls on the whole pretty good except for Kevin Bartlett who calls the game as if it is on TV where you would know when he says "he's got the ball" who the pronoun refers to. On radio, that's just a bit more difficult. Channel 7 still has a lot of work to do to get the balance right. Individually each of Brian Taylor, Cameron Ling, Luke Darcy and Matthew Richardson can be interesting callers and commentators, but as a team there's too much effort to outdo one another on testosterone levels. If each called the game properly, it would be a much better commentary team. And just to come to their defence, they haven't been helped by being asked to call so many games with the same teams over and over again. There's only so much you can say about an underperforming Carlton. -
If you're describing what happened in the last game, I didn't have a chance to watch so can't comment. What I will say, though, is that in the roughly 70 games that each has played prior to the WCE game, both Bail and M Jones have tried as hard as anyone. I'll take the 70 games worth of evidence over individual incidents in one game any day.
-
Whoah. I can accept an argument that Bail and M Jones may not be highly skilled but I think you must be thinking of someone else when you argue that they are "heartless" and "squibb (sic) the contests". Bail and M Jones try as hard as anyone.

Any chance you could do so publicly? If we lose, I'm going to be more interested in hearing about your life choices than following football.

While being too tall seems problematic for Darwin, conversely for the last few years we've been undersized every time we play WCE. It's not Jamar's fault that he's a comparatively short ruckman, but having two genuinely tall ruckmen in the side is a big change which may well make a difference. Also, having a genuine crumber in Garlett makes the tall forward line less problematic. But I still think we'll lose by about 8 goals.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dermott Brereton has said previously that in the year before the 2001 draft Hawthorn would have taken Judd with Pick 1 if he'd been eligible. They decided one year later because of his shoulders that they'd take Hodge instead. However, that decision would have been helped by the knowledge that Hodge was likely to be a superstar. -

Phil Walsh found dead overnight
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Gorgoroth's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm not so sure. It might be quite cathartic for them. Footballers, like everyone else, will cope with emotional distress differently, but I would have thought doing what you're best at might be the best way of coping with the insurmountable grief which must be present. As you say, there are qualified people in this area who's advice should be sought and acted upon. -

Disagree with your last 5 words. Just because it's social media, doesn't give people the right to be sloppy with their spelling generally or their grammar. People who post should respect not only the players but also the readers on this site and make an effort to get things right. I accept we all make mistakes, but just a little effort on everyone's part shouldn't be too much to ask. And can someone buy Daisycutter a keyboard with a Shift key. Phil Walsh found dead overnight
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Gorgoroth's topic in Melbourne Demons
We should keep this thread just on football related matters. All speculation involving what may have happened overnight should be deleted both out of respect for those involved and to avoid prejudicing any legal issues. As to what happens to football this week, I suspect the round might have been postponed if a match hadn't already been played. But, given the game played last night it makes postponement much harder (but not impossible) to deal with. If the games proceed, I'd like, as a minimum, to see every player with a black armband and every match begin with a minutes silence. -
Delistings/trades at end of the season

I just love the way everything Barrett says which might ultimately benefit Melbourne is believed on Demonland to be ridgy-didge, 100% true without question and everything he says which might be critical of Melbourne is made up, arrant nonsense. -

Sorry, Demon Jack, you've broken one of Demonland's rules. You're only allowed to compare Naitinui with Jack Watts. -

MFC player 1 year contract valuations
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Henrietta Lumbago's topic in Melbourne Demons
You're assuming the AFL doesn't impose a "mark out of 10 cap" to avoid clubs rating everyone too highly. Presumably some clubs would keep a separate list for those players who score more than 10 out of 10. -
I like that Roos has confidence in Vince and Viney to use them play lock down roles knowing they'll also get plenty of the ball and do some damage with it. It means we play with 22 instead of 21, which is effectively what happens when you include a tagger in the team with no offensive capabilities.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 12
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
For a game that apparently had so many players who could be awarded votes, it's quite amazing how consistent the Demonland voting has been.
