Changes for Next Week
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
A number of posters have suggested JKH returning to Casey to learn not to try to finesse so much. I doubt going to Casey will help with that. At Casey he'll have more time, continue to take too much time to make a decision but get away with it. I see him doing what Nathan Jones did in his first few years - just trying to do too much. I would have thought the best place to learn to take a quicker option is in the pressure-cooker environment of the Firsts. We'll have to put up with him getting caught quite a few more times yet, but the end result we should be looking for is likely to be achieved more quickly if he remains in the seniors. -
Essendon VFL v Casey Scorpions - Round 3
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
My biggest surprise reading this report was that Bail played. If he was fit enough to play for Casey, how did McKenzie get called up to the seniors before him? (Not that I think Bail is a long-term prospect for the seniors. I just have him well ahead of McKenzie). -
THE DRUG SCANDAL: AFL TRIBUNAL DECIDES

The irony, of course, is that with a lay down misere you lose every trick. -

Not prepared to trust your lovely lady to do the Casey-watching for you? -

Good thing you added the word "media". Otherwise I would have thought you were talking about yourself getting over-excited. -
THE DRUG SCANDAL: AFL TRIBUNAL DECIDES
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mick Warner's article is a little vague. Is McDevitt meeting with WADA solely on the Essendon matter or is he there for other purposes and raising the Essendon matter as a side issue? The line in Warner's story that says, "McDevitt is in Montreal for a series of meetings with international anti-doping officials where the Essendon matter will be discussed" suggests to me that he's with WADA primarily for other purposes and Warner has added the Essendon bit in as an afterthought. -

So you're thinking Spencer comes in for Jetta and plays on Ballantyne? -

With all due respect, my point is that I believe Jones, the other Judge and Moose Henwood were truly independent in the first place. That's quite different from appointing people with a sympathetic view such as your examples of appointees under the current PM. -
Mitch Clark out with a foot injury ...
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to jumbo returns's topic in Melbourne Demons
He Dieter, I'm too young to remember 1958. Are you saying you watched a replay on that then new fangled device called television? Live coverage of the Grand Final started in 1977. When did replays of football matches begin? I can remember them from the mid-1960s onwards. Oh, back on topic. I'll swim against the tide and hope Mitch Clark recovers quickly, although I'd be happy for him to miss a week when we play Geelong. My view about his departure has always been that it was in his best interests mentally to do so and that's much more important than what it means for our club (who happened to do well out of it by securing Lumumba). -
THE DRUG SCANDAL: AFL TRIBUNAL DECIDES

I'm having visions of Alice in Wonderland with a "Drink me" label on the bottle. I suppose Stephen Dank would have to be the Mad Hatter and Caroline "Off With His Head" Wilson would be the Queen of Hearts. So who's the Cheshire Cat (Hird? Mark Thompson?) and Tweedledum and Tweedledee (Demetriou and McLachlan? or Little and David Evans?) -
Hey bb, can you clarify what you mean by "divisive"? Do you mean he was divisive within the club or that he divided opinions among supporters? Two very different things, although you could mean both.

THE DRUG SCANDAL: AFL TRIBUNAL DECIDES
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Am I the only one that thinks people of the reputation and experience of the David Jones, Wayne Henwood and the other former judge whose name escapes me would have been immune to any interference from the AFL? (And I don't believe the AFL even tried to interfere). -
Melbourne's Compensation Picks
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to pantaloons's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is it true he was expelled for failing the basics? -
I'm not disagreeing with your assessment, but I suspect Sylvia needed leadership off the field as much, if not more, than on it. It's why the choice of captain of any club needs to be a person who can do the "job" both on and off the field. from what I can see and hear, I'm very comfortable with our current choice.

It was tried in the game against the Bulldogs at Etihad last year and, yes, it was a horrible failure. Terlich kept getting "lost" in the forward line. None of Saty's training reports or the Casey reports suggest Terlich has been training with the forwards or playing in the forward line, so I can't see why it would happen now. In fact, this thread is full of left field suggestions (Howe in the ruck, for example). The biggest surprise to me would be if Roos played anyone in a role they haven't been training for or playing in.

Just buy some digital icecream and go for it.

To be fair to Deledio, he may also have attained the standing of the other 4 stars if he had been in a well-functioning club over the journey (particularly in his formative years).

THE DRUG SCANDAL: AFL TRIBUNAL DECIDES
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'll assume the $900k fine would be for each offence. If 34 players were treated in a way which breaches OH&S laws, I wonder whether there is the potential for 34 separate breaches? Or whether there are hundreds or even thousands of potential breaches if each injection is considered to be a breach. Having said that, I don't expect Worksafe to find sufficient evidence of any breaches of the OH & S Act other than some possible records keeping concerns. Assuming that Worksafe has to make a finding on a beyond reasonable doubt basis (any learned friends please correct me if I'm wrong) which is a higher hurdle than "comfortable satisfaction" I can't see how Worksafe can make a finding on the primary matter of concern which differs from the AFL Tribunal. -
I like vandenBerg's attack on the ball and I like his tackling...but now I'm really worried about his sense of humour.

Issues off the field killing the game
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Demonsone's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not mine. Two things affect my opinion: The onfield performance of my team and the quality of games played by other teams in neutral games. -
The Mick Malthouse coaching milestone
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't particularly like the guy and I suspect he's coaching at Carlton fore the wrong reasons, but even so, I think its a great achievement which should be respected. Nevertheless, I do note that he has now lost more games as coach than any other. -
Issues off the field killing the game
La Dee-vina Comedia replied to Demonsone's topic in Melbourne Demons
One of the reasons why radio is so much better than TV is that you can watch it upside down and it doesn't change the experience. By the way, this thread is a crock. Off field issues are not killing the game at all. -
And often over well before quarter time, too. I'm still haunted by Gary Ablett Jr in his Geelong days kicking the first goal at the 9 second mark of one game at the MCG which, not surprisingly, we went on to lose.

Can a lawyer please tell me: can issuing subpoenas make people "actually talk"? I thought all it could do was make them appear or hand over documents.
