  1. Apart from Robbie Flower, probably my next favourite Dees player ever. Strength, skill, aggression, arrogance, and a decent touch of mongrel about him. I still believe he would have been equal to Carey if not for injury and gambling. He was an outstanding kick and his pack marking hasn't been equalled at MFC since he left. And he is not alone as a great player who team-mates didn't like. Lots of great footballers are, or have been, horrible people. John Nicholls, Leigh Matthews and Wayne Carey come to mind. I hope he finds his way back to the club and that ex-team mates can forgive and move on. There are probably some genuine feelings against him by past players but these conflicts can be healed and resolved. Strange they weren't during Jimmy's time as President.
  2. We have lots of defensive options at the moment but need to deveklop more small defenders. Most of the potential small defenders have been injured for much of this season and Bartram for half of it. We need Strauss and Jetta to get fit and get a run of games to see if they can fit the bill. Bennell has had too many hcances and flopped badly. Bail and Nicholson ar two others who can develop in this area. Definite: Frawley, Rivers, Garland, Tom McDonald, Blease, Bartram Flexibility: Bail, Nicholson, Sellar, Joel MacDonald, Jetta, Strauss (will end up a set member of back 6), Potential: Davis, Tynan, Couch, Tapscott, Morton and Watts will end up as forwards I do not think that recruiting another bulky forward is the way forward. I agree with Billy2803 that Lucas Cook will fill this space. He will be a definite "in" for 2012 and we will see why he was a pick #12.
  3. This has to be made the biggest, boldest and brashest size banner possible with lots of Dees fans around it, and ensure it gets some cameras to focus on it. Absolute pure gold and the best post of 2012, without exception. Lucifer, if you do make it, let us know where you sit and we will crowd around.
  4. The three hinge games are Freo at Etihad, Brisbane at the Gabba, and North Melbourne at Etihad. Our best against Carlton and Collingwood and Essendon would kill all three of these but can we do it over 4 quarters, and will Etihad continue to haunt us? 5 - 7 wins I reckon.
  5. My demon-mad daughter turns 17 on Sunday. When the fixture was released earlier this year and she discovered that her birhtday fell on the GWS game day she said, "I know what I want for my birthday. I want to go to the MCG and boo Scully". We have been saving our boos and all six of us will give him every bit of vitriol we can muster. At one point I was going to suggest to Demonlanders that whenever Scully touches the ball for the whole crowd to fall silent, but I will not be able to resrtain myself. I don't like on-field violence but if Beamer or Mgner "accidentally" push their shoulder into Scully's head I won't be too sorry.
  6. This is a must win so we need to pick our best side. OUT: Tapscott. Suspended Green. Just not cutting it at the moment IN: Cook. His form has been great and he is a one-grab mark like Clark. It is time. Bail or Bartram Give Dunn a full game - his size could be telling against GWS smaller bodies Morton is interesting. Keep him in. I reckon that little spray from Neeld will be the making of him. Davey burnt it up at Casey but I am unsure who to drop for him It would good to put Martin in also but I can't see who to drop for him. Sellar?
  7. Not for me. The last thing we need is another player with no physical presence and continual inconsistency.
  8. Yep, we can share our thoughts - I think mine are accurate and yours aren't. Opinions shared.
  9. No to Arocca for me. If we have to change CEO's, and I hope we don't, we go after the best, not another bloke working for a club that is behind even MFC in structure, finances and growth.
  10. This has to be the most facile thing I have read on Demonland in three years. The reason he doesn't smile is because he rarely smiles at ANYTHING! Press conferences, annual team photos, DeeTV interviews - he just isn't a lighthearted bloke. Fair dinkum, Dee supporters looking to bag one of our own - give it a rest PaulRB. But I reckon with him pushing through into the froward 50 is a great move, along with Sylvia. BOth these players are at their most dangerous from 75m out either delivering it to the forwads, or kicking at goal form 50m out.
  11. I would have jumped at Travis Cloke 12 months ago, and paid him what Mitch Clark is getting. But Mitch Clark has been a perfect match. I agree with poster above about Lucas Cook - he will be in ouir side next year and you watch his one-grab marking ability. Travis Cloke is only worth $620K - $640K in my opinion but our need of him has passed.
  12. How long have we needed a mid-sized bloke who can kick and mark? Tappy is beginning to show both these skills and with his hard edge he could be a huge plus looking across the next 2 - 5 years. He is not only strong in his physique, but strong over the ball, string i na contest, and strong going for a mark. Seing him, Watts, Blease, Nicho, T McDonald all playing together at last gave us a glimpse. I can't wait to see Davis, Cook, Gawn, Strauss, Viney and Gysberts added to this mix and for them to all play muliple games together.
  13. 100% agree. If we can ever, get Strauss injury-free we get another backman who can kick really well and this permanently releases Grimes into the middle. Nicholson's game down back also should mean that Grimes should stay in the middle. Grimes' leadership, spreading from the contest and nouse arond the stoppage were great to see and led the way for Moloney, Trengove etc.. to also find form.
  14. I agree, but the Dees turned an important corner last night. In the 1st quarter we turned it over horribly by foot when there was no pressure. But in the 2nd half when we were supposed to "unfit and disorganised" we were hitting targets and taking our chances. We weren't excellent but we were better, much better. Dry weather football may test us but I am not as worried as I was.
  15. I had a great half hour reading the Bomber Blitz forum posts. They lose one game to a lower side and they eat their own. I am just waiting for the traditional "how pathetic is Stanton" ranting to begin that will put icing on the cake.
  16. I have been a critic of his kicking but his kicking was outstanding tonight. What was really great to see was he took on opponents one-on-one, believing he could win and he usually did. If you watch the replay histeam focused gut running was of high quality. A really good game.
  17. The Good 22 players for 4 quarters Neeld as game day coach Grimes' leadership Garland as a forward Winning the disposal count Our forward spread in last quarter James Hird's face when the Bombers lose (priceless) The Bad Unpressured turnovers by foot during 1st quarter The Ugly Channel 7 coverage, especially the camera angles at certain times in the game.
  18. Frawley has to come back in regardless of who played well. Bartram is also the kind of player Neeld likes so he might be considered. Lynden Dunn could not be dropped on last night's performance. He stood up in tackles and did a lot of really hard work. He might be on the edge of the team and always hovering between Casey, the bench or the sub. Could be the one to miss out because Sellar required for Dawes. Blease should recover in time. Sellar also could not be dropped on last night's performance. IN: Frawley, Bartram (possibly) OUT: J MacDonad, ??? It will be tough at the selection table this week.
  19. Not much between them, really. What Watts has in poise and awareness, Hurley has in physical presence. The difference at the moment is that Watts is helping a side win and Hurley is being beaten. Also, I reckon the commentators were wrong tonight. Watts was not the spare man in defence. He tackled, spoilt, punched the ball, peeled of his man, and a couple of times went third man up. His game was much better than a cheap loose man in defence game.
  20. Winning feels good - very good. The pressure valve has been released and I can relax a bit when i watch the footy. Sex in the morning, gardening before lunch, a kick of the footy with my boys at about 2pm, KFC for tea and then the Dees win. I will sleep tonight.
  21. Sellar was very good, and tonight he showed he can kick and run. I have to admit being very surprised but he definitely earned his place tonight.
  22. Were you watching the same game as the rest of us? At times Essendon were free flowing, but it was grunt football. The Dees won through body contact and attack on the footy.
  23. What an amazing coaching move - Watts back and Garland forward. Garland can mark, get good body position - just needs to work on the set shots.
  24. 6. Rivers 5. Grimes (mid-filed leadership at last) 4. Watts 3. Garland 2. Jones 1. Nicholson apologies to Jeremy Howe.
  25. AS much as I hate the Pies and Carlton, ever since the 2000 Grand Final I HATE Essendon. That felt really good tonight. Skillful? - not particularly. Great forward spread? - ummm no. But great gut-wrenching, hard at it, never-give up, mongrel footy and the free flowing Essendon crumbled.
