It was more just a shock to hear it come out of her mouth, she has truly become "one of the guys" now.

Hamish Blake to 'spearhead' 2009 membership campaign
Pates replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is a clear campaign aimed at the younger generation, something we REALLY lack in! I think most people know he's not a big foot fan, but he will bring something different to the table so it's a good move IMO. -
That's one of the best comments on this thread, it's easy to have a go at an opposition player when your team's 5th and you got 23 possies. Fortunately for Harvey there was someone dumb enough out there to award a free kick for his (terrible) acting. I appreciate the talent that he displays and that he is a very important player for the Roos, but i've got little or no respect for him after what he's said post-game. Next time he craps on about one of our players someone should shove a shot of his winge to the umpire after the second one. I'm not surprised Dunn wanted to flatten him (or possibly McIdiot) after that. I was half barracking for them to get into the finals and do well, now i want them to take the best spot of all......... 1. Geelong 2. Hawthorne 3. ............... 4. ............... 5. ............... 6. ............... 7. ............... 8. ............... 9. North!

In general rucking duties he holds his own and is able to at the very least break even, but in the centre circle bounce he gets beaten most times. It's a limitation but not the end of the world and he looks a really capable player for the future.

Fair dinkum, PJ is one of the things that keeps me coming to the games. The guy gets better every week and for someone so big he's got really good disposal on him, and is deceptively quick for a ruckman. My only question is whether he can hold down no. 1 centre rucking duties, my gut says no. That said there is so much positive to him, i won't outlandishly say i picked it from the start, but i was genuinely excited when we got him.

From the sounds of it PMac was a right fit for the old board, but the fact is that Jimmy and his new board are going in a different direction and while Paul has great credentials, they felt it would be better to nip this in the bud early and get someone that they felt confident in driving us in the same direction. I also think the reason for his early sacking is his (relatively) low pay out, i have a feeling that there was a clause saying that if he was given the flick in X amount of time they would not have to pay out the rest of the contract.
-
It was always rumoured that Macca was not the favourite of most of the board and that it was Gardner that instated him as our CEO. If this is the case then Gardners legacy is two absolute dismal apointments of CEOs, and it looks like Stynes is trying to clean up the mess. In saying that, i hadn't had any issue with what he's done so far, and apart from his MIA over the mid-season break, i thought he was doing a pretty good job. But then again i'm not inside the club so i can't even begin to understand the reasons for his sacking. Now i've heard that he will be paid out about 100-200K with his contract termination, can anyone confirm?
-
I completely agree, from everything i've seen so far i've thought he's done a good job. The point of getting him here was that he would grow the club through his unorthodox methods and ideas. It's seems really strange that we'd get rid of him so quickly, especially with the money we'll have to pay him out with. One things for sure though, Melbourne Football Club's CEO=toughest gig in spots administration.

Exactly right, High Tower, players like Davey especially struggle when the whole team is failing, just like others thrive when the going's are bad. I recon Davey will become a very effective a highly skilled midfielder for us, and once he's got back up and players to feed him the ball you'll see how good he can be. And let's not forget his work with Aussie!

I'm not massively fussed by the loss, it's more the way we just capitulated and every bit of intensity and drive we had in the first quarter was just gone. In saying that our midfield stocks are massively depleted, in his third year Jones is taking the first tag, but the irony is that when he's in his prime it's likely that there be players ahead of him taking that first and second tag. Our defense was worked over time, but the signs a still there that they'll all play a part in our future. Mostly we lacked leadership, I wonder whether i move for Bails could've been Miller to the wing, just to try to get an enforcer in there. Bruce was MIA, and i would be happy to drop him for Jmac, but it won't happen. We missed Green's ability to steady the ship and move all over the ground. Ultimately it was a reminder as to where we are, still very young and lot's more developing to do.

This guy needs to be put in a loony bin, but not before he donates that $10G! But seriously, if i see this guy on the street i'll shake his hand till it falls off! Hopefully that'll inspire our "well connected" supporters to spring into action during debt demolition month.

More than one night game, and less Sunday games. That's all i really want from them as long as they put all home games at the G (apart from the sold one/s obviously).

How so? If Warnock is LEAVING Fremantle why the hell would they want to pick him up again whe he doesn't want to be there? It'd be a waste for them and for Warnock, and he'd probable screw them the first chance he gets again. As long as no one else from Victoria finishes below us well still have that bargaining power. In terms of winning culture, i don't think the act of winning 2-3 more games this year will make a difference in the long run, but it's how we lose those games that will reflect on our culture and personal standards. In an ideal world we'd play great games for the rest of the year, but only win enough to gain the priority pick. The fact is that of the 7 games we've got left we only play ONE game against a current top 8 side, and of the first 15 games we've played ELEVEN of those were against top 8 sides. The coaching staff AND THE PLAYERS have a choice here. They can go down the path that Calrton the tank engine took last year and deliberately lose the games they could've/should've won, or they can decide that the want to build confidence for next year by winning matches.

I would only trade him if offered something very enticing. He's starting to show signs of becoming a good footballer for us, it's amazing that his 4 goals v Lions wern't that highly recognised on this site. The best thing about that was that he could do much better.
-
Don't be surprised if Davey gets placed into that list. I must admit that i was very sceptical about him becoming a midfielder as i felt we needed someone always at the fall of the ball in the forward line, but with Aussie coming to the club and showing some talent we could make Davey a midfielder that goes forward on occasion. For me: McLean, Jones, Davey, Moloney, Green

How many people here were actually at the game?
Pates replied to ucanchoose's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was there, it's always depressing to look at the Melbourne area for TD games. -
I have heard him being compared to Chapman, and not just in the the way he looks. If he's half as good as Chapman he'll be anything but Mediocre.

I get the feeling that Dunn's being taught his defensive capabilities and over the second half of this year will be told to become damaging on the rebound and force his opponent to be accountable. He's done really well in his role, and today Cooney became another victim of Dunn's transformation.

I don't know where to begin on this thread! Firstly i'll say i'm really pleased with Valenti's progress, i watched him a bit at Sandy last year and was glad Melbourne picked him up, i've still got a few question marks about him but today was a great step in the right direction. Secondly, some of the comments on this thread are a friggen joke. 12 months ago we were hailing him as our saviour and future captain, some of you guys give fickle a new name. With Beamer and McLean out, Jonesy is getting tagged and for such a young player i think he's handling it quite well. YM: "dumbest football on our list", you'll be eating your words along with some sweet humble pie within 12 months. I know i am RE: Miller

YES I always want to win, no matter what the outcomes my desire to see us win is always going to outweigh anything. In saying that, it would be my preferance for us to not win more than 4 games so we can get an extra pick in the top 20. This year those picks are like gold. In the end, picks 1-3 are all potential stars so it doesn't matter where we end up. I don't want the wooden spoon!

From what Miller said at the photo on Thursday, Newton has been injured for a large part of this season and he would know better than anyone that if you get injured and can't shake it than it's hard to get back to the form you'd like. In saying that, there is no doubt that Newton has to show a large work ethic this weekend, it seems that Bails has taken that approach that hard work gets rewarded and it seems to be the corner stone of our side at this time. The two wins we've had this year have come through relentless pressure and hard running (abliet for only one half v freo!), so he'd better pull his weight. Bell has been really dissapointing this year, last year i would've had him up there in the top 5 B&F at the mid point, since then (again injury interrupting) he has shown very little to warrent a solid best 22 spot. With many of our key players out for the season it gives some on the outer a chance to put their hands up and say "i want to be apart of our this clubs future". It's a good test this week, and i'll be there to spur them on!

Jimmy's clearly identified the kids as a key factor to getting the club back to it's former glory. Our Auskick levels are the lowest of any team, so him getting out there to woo future fans is a great initiative. Good stuff Jimmy!

Well done to Garland, can't say i've been sold on him since day one but he has shown some great potential this year and really looks like a footballer. Now let's try and get Morts, Valenti, and co. nominated!

150 Birthday Photo this Thursday - Selection?
Pates replied to Red and Blue Bloke's topic in Melbourne Demons
I got selected, a little surprised to be honest, but still very happy to be there apart of our great club's history!
