Last night on footy classified Caro had the nerve to say that Sundays draw the same crowds as the other days, history has showed us that not only is Sunday traditionally the days that draws less of a crowd but less TV exposure which IMO is an even bigger issue. And it's one of the reasons why we're having to look outside the square to gain revenue. If nothing else, the fact that the club has shown it's willing to think latterally now gives us positive press. This venture could well be our saviour, it could well prove to be just a red herring to deflect our clubs issues but either way i like the thinking that's going on.

I would never vindicate us tanking, however given the fact that we really have to start from the beginning again and that the Gold Coast team is going to butcher the draft for any team that does poorly in 2009, we pretty much need to gain the draft pick this year to give us the gun players for the future. I think the best we can hope for is for us to win about 4 games this year but to show the kind of spirit we showed today. I haven't watched the whole match but our first half was fantastic pressure footy and the only way i could be prouder of the boys would've been if they got the win. And as you have said, Distance Demon the worst maybe behind us, we just need to keep showing that kind of digging in fighting spirit, and show that this club is not going to back down from a fight. PS. the look on Jonesy's face when he kicked that goal in the first quarter made me so excited, the passion and aggression in his face was awesome!

That would be extremely costly, would it not? I know there is a train in the vicinity, but how can we upgrade the transport system to be able to get the fans from there to the ground? Bus? Tram? Perhaps they could create a shuttle bus system for game days. I agree though, one of the big failings for Waverly Park was the fact that there was no way of getting up there without driving. To be successful at Casey we'd need a way for fans from everywhere to get there.

You don't get 6 weeks for a chance to show what you've got, 2-3 should be plenty and he has been given that before. I agree bringing him in and out isn't going to do anything, but by now if you perform at Sandy you should at least able to show SOME of that form in the big league. I want to give him a chance but every time he walks out on to the field he looks like a headless chook. He will need to establish himself in the chance he get from now on, or he's not going be apart of our future. The team this week looks vulnerable at best, the efficiency the crows had last week V our defense was scary, but the midfielders are going to have to work 5x as hard against the Hawks. Accountability will be the biggest key to not letting this become a blowout of monumental proportions, and whoever we drop back as the extra man will need to be ready to back into packs at just about every Hawk forward thrust. My opinion, give (P) Johnson a big time run in the ruck and have White as the extra man down back. The other option is Bruce or Green. I've got my hopes for Frawley, i don't think he was as bad as everyone was saying V Adelaide, the fact is they know how to move it quickly and get space in their forward line. When you're faced with those odds there isn't much you can do as a defender. In saying that though i think he will miss the cut this week. And i REALLY hope Yze can recapture some of his spark, when up and running he was unpredictable and highly skilled, it's sad to see what he's become now. My interchange: Buckley, Holland, Yze, Valenti

What the hell did Harris do at our club? 90% turnover? That's a joke, and it's no wonder we're in financial disarray. I can't believe that he actually BUDGETED for a 30,000 membership figure, given the history of our clubs supporters after bad year and the fact that we couldn't sustain many losses it would've been infinitely smarter to budget for 26,000-27,000. Aim for 30,000 but don't rely on it. P-Mac seems to be heading in the right direction, especially in terms of our gate numbers so far. It's early days, but i've liked his style in the past so hopefully he can perform a miracle. I hate to say it though, but i think we're gonna have to look at selling more games, try to go for a neutral ground.
-
Very true, however us members and supporters haven't been told how to help. Apart from buying a membership and going to as many games as possible, what else can i do?

Can someone explain to me how we are set for a loss of over 1$ Million when our is almost what it was last year, we have had LESS injuries, and crowd figures are roughly what they were last year, possibly even more. The Steve Harris sacking must've cost the club dearly, and the annoying this was that it was an avoidable situation. Anyone could see he shouldn't have got a contract extension, but for some reason the club sees fit to retain him and then drop him 3 or 4 months into his new contract. Yet again the club takes one step forward and three steps back.   On Kennett, he can stick his opinion where the sun don't shine, the AFL has already said they are creating a separate entity up there and they are want an 18 team competition for the next TV rights deal.

I agree if he could get out there! Poor guys is so bloody injury prone, but if could string some games together there is no doubt he is an integral part of our team and has the guts to go back into packs.

Already a topic on it in the "Successor" thread. http://demonland.ugbox.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=10191

It's Adelaide, the umpires are colour blind to every team that crosses the border. Seen it so much now i'm almost used to it........almost.
-
Yze's out of the side, Robbo's too erratic, White's probably too old and isn't having as much of an influence (however i agree he should be considered in the group).
-
Thanks I might not get to say goodbye! If i ever see him at a function or anything i will make sure to thank him in person, he's earned every accolade he's been given.
-
Are they giving him his tribute this weekend? I haven't heard anything so i was hoping they would leave it to make it a part of the big celebrations during the Queens Birthday for our 150th year, a tell ya what if they DID do that it would just about sell out the ground. Please don't let it be this weekend though, because i've got my mother's 60th birthday in the afternoon and i can't go to the match!
-
Either retire it for a year, or give it to the first round draft pick of 2009. But i'm also with Finks! If we get Jonno Brown i think he might be deserving of it........just!
-
Too early to have Petterd in there, i like the rest though. And it would probably be a good idea to put some experience in there so i hope Green can forced his way back in. I'll throw up a smokey, and not necessarily an option i would take but based on this year he could be amongst it. Brad Miller As i said, not a choice i would make, however Bails obviously rates him and he hasn't looked completely incompetent this year. If he continues to present and show a bit of aggression he could at least be an option as a temporary captain while the likes of Brock, Jones and Bate grow up.
-
OK perhaps i worded that wrong, but the point is we need Brock in our side going forward. We've got to build on something and the only way to breed experienced players around the club is to keep them around long enough. If we trade them once they get tagged and can't shake it then we'll never end up with a list to take on the best, in two years time everyones going to say the same thing about Jones, but you have to stick fat ith players and allow them to grow. And sure in hindsight trading Trav at the end of 2002 would've been great, he came in the top 5 of the Brownlow for Christs sake so we would've got a top draft pick, but how could they justify it at the time!?
-
Going forward next year we must take the course of action that we did when Viney retired in 1999 and named Neitz for 2000. Get youth and enthusiasm into the captaincy, and none of this co-captain crap! For me, it's Brock McLean all the way. PS. no one is worthy to replace Neitz!
-
A sad way to end one of the greatest careers at the MFC. It will be very tough for us to go on without him, he's been the heart and soul for the club since the likes of Todd Viney retired. I really wanted him to have a send off match, but he has taken the smart move and put his health in front of anything else. You've given me so many great memories, I hope you will stick around the club for a while, and i wish you all the best in your post-football life.
-
Would be one of the stupidest things to ever do, if we are to have any chance at getting back to strength he will be one of our leaders to take us there. I would expect that he is not where he wanted to be at this stage of his career, looking at Cooney dominating for the Bulldogs would probably frustrate him, but 2007 not only halted his progress and prevented him from building on 2006 but has also sent him backwards and on top of that he now has to deal him the no. 1 tag basically every week. The very fact that you back in Sylvia, who has shown barely anything (injuries preventing of course), before Brock reduces your credibility to nil.
-
Bell took many of this i believe, there was that period in the 3rd quarter where it just went back and forth out of there, we'd constantly play on and kick it straight to a 3 on 2 contest, with us being the 2. It's not good at all and i've only seen one year where we've actually been good at it.
-
This is one of the MANY reasons why we lose games. You can never put it down to one singular issue, especially when your losses average over 50 points.
-
He was a positive, however i'm not going to get carried away with him. He's been stringing good performances together at Sandy for a good while now but it's taken until now for him to be put on the senior list, s there are obviously question marks over him. But if he keeps working hard and does the things he did today then he could have a future at the MFC.
-
I remember Chris Conolley saying that we wouldn't promote him until he was going to go straight into the the team so you'd think he'll at the very least be an emergancy, smart move IMO given our situation with money and why promote someone unless the are ready. Congrats Valenti, i wish you all the best in the big league!
-
I think they should all be on our radar, but more so Warnock and Mundy, they both fit into the vision of where our club's going and they sound like they could both forced a spot in the 22. Don't know about Murphy, honestly can't comment on his abilities or whether he'll fit into the side.
-
Cooney would have to be considered as one the demands no. 1 pick. Him, Ablett, Bartel and Buddy are the only ones i'd consider giving up no. 1 for and even then i would have to be sure.
