  1. Yeah I have to admit that escaped me but you're right. For me it's one of those things that's been a "must have" in any previous MFC add. Could've had one of the projections onto the MCC stand or something. I liked the ad, nothing too crazy and gets to the point: we're the club of the city.
  2. I'll be there if it's at Gosch's Paddock and I reckon there'd be a fair few others that would be keen to be there. If nothing else I just want to be there to cheer Trenners out onto the park.
  3. It might be a bit much for a 50 gamer, but there's so much love for him I say we do it. I recall the bombers did something similar for Heppell where they gave kids mop top wigs, I didn't like it but then I reckon given what Max has been through with injuries it'd be a great show from the fans.
  4. Looking forward to hearing the rundown. Main thing is it sounds like we've got minutes into those we wanted to.
  5. Like it, how many games has he played? If he's got a milestone this year I reckon that should be a lock. Or maybe just have a bunch of them of standby if (when) he plays a dominating game. This year he's going to go from having a cult following amongst die hard demon fans, to being rated and well known in the whole competition. Love that he's got passion and love for the club, exactly the sort of guy you want at the club.
  6. I'm not sure what you're smelling (or looking to smell), I would say they are taking an extremely cautious approach with him. ACLs appear to be a knee injury that has a higher reoccurrence rate than others so we want to get this right the first time. Also we are in a bit of a luxurious position where we are doing (touch wood) well with injuries so there is no need to rush him. Don't forget, the toe injury happened during his rehab for his knee injury. This means he had to rehab both injuries which pushed him back. I think you're hearing hoofbeats and thinking zebras.
  7. I will start this by saying I'm about as far away from an expert as you can get, but the successful sportsmen and women who have to do repetitive tasks (shoot, throw, bowl, hit) they all talk about muscle memory and that every one of their actions is exactly the same and so the body sort of goes into autopilot. Jesse's technique and run up seems to change every shot for goal, and he missed some real sitters last year. Now yes his accuracy isn't bad, but it could certainly be better. Further to that he doesn't seem to get much penetration on his kicks, anything above 40-43m out he seems to really have to hoof it. The Ox went overboard with his description and frankly it was a cheap attempt to get the headline to make his show more relevant. But he wasn't totally wrong and I think the ultimate point is that it isn't an area he's as fluid in as others and it therefor be something he should work on/ask for help. For all we know he already has though.
  8. Best 22 is obviously very dependent on injuries, also isn't it great to be having competition for spots? With injuries potentially (touch wood hope not) being a factor players I could see him replacing would be sort of floaters, guys that play multiple areas. Salem, Kennedy, Bugg, and Petracca to a point. He'll have to do a lot to fight his way into best 22, but he has the best attitude you could hope for.
  9. It would be up there with how much delight I got out of seeing the Ox back after his 3rd knee reco. I get this feeling that a lot of people are writing him off almost out of fear after the run of injuries and bad luck we've had over the years, but all reports (and that's all we can go on) is that this latest recovery has gone as well as could hope. Hearing the bloke and hearing about the bloke he is as determined as ever and his attitude is fantastic. I'm going to be really keen to hear his progress at Casey this week (and I expect at least a few weeks after).
  10. My concern being whether he has them or not. Jack is very much an unknown quantity at the moment.
  11. I know he likes a goal but what about a role off half back for Jack as well? It's no secret that our ball users in the backline are pretty average, if Jack still has that great disposal on him he could be quite valuable as someone to bring the ball out with class. He and Salem could potentially swap between the two areas. My only concern would be his defensive capabilities.
  12. It would be wrong for people to expect Jack to come back and make an immediate impact given the length of time he's missed. I'm just simply going to be happy for him to be out on a footy field again and let him get his groove back. I'm hoping he can become a cog in our ever improving machine.
  13. It would be interesting to know who's idea it was to have this presser. On the one hand I thought it was good he was getting on the front foot and hitting back, also asking a few questions about his future and how he feels about the club. The bites that the media have taken make him come across as arrogant, and maybe there is a little bit of that, but I don't think The Ox's comments were totally wrong. It's an area of his game that isn't quite right and I would think he would look to correct that for his sake and the teams. Who was the Melbourne female player who had that iconic photo of the perfect kicking action, maybe get her to give him lessons!
  14. It was very interesting watching Hogan today, he still impacted the contest, kicked 2 goals, and played a key part in at least 2-3 i can think of, but he would say he had a poor game. The last quarter every time he dropped a mark he would look at his hands as iff to say "what the hell is wrong with me?" And it's a good question, he doesn't want to become a Cloke-like forward where he has to clunk a few marks early to have a good game. Ultimately even though he had a poor game by his standards he still created opportunities.
  15. Well after a good start our kicking out of defence has been nothing short of disgusting. 3 goals from direct turnovers. I know it's pre-season but I do feel it one of our major deficiencies.
  16. That's what I took from it, the first quote from Nathan Barrett felt all positive and the second from Adam Giles (aside from comparing us to the Eels) was more about what he wanted to see rather than what we weren't doing. As we live in a bubble down here it's very hard to say what they actually do up there. I also feel that the AFL has always scheduled our matches, particularly in Darwin, extremely poorly. They should always have the bye afterwards, then the club could say to the players they have recovery up in Darwin and take some clinics on the Monday and are free from Tuesday. Would also (more importantly) mean the players have better chance at recovery. I know this brings in a fair bit of $$$ so I won't say I'm happy if we lose it but I won't be devastated as every year we know the impact it has on the team AND the fact that they are two home games sent to a neutral venue. IF we do lose it we'd better find some good sponsors, otherwise red ink could be coming out.
  17. Maybe us Dees fans are expecting too much from him straight away, but remember before he did his knee he was tracking as well as (if not better) than Gus. His ability and desire is well known, and to me for someone who has such a great natural ability I feel it won't take him long to make an impact. Whether it's on the same level as Gus or Jesse when they had their first years, maybe not, but I'm sure by mid way through the year (injuries permitting) he'll be a settled important cog to the team.
  18. I think I'm going to go to this match, might even see if my new flatmate (who's Dutch) might be interested in going! I'm not going to get to many games this year so would be fantastic if I could see us cap off an excellent pre-season. I'm hoping to see strong performances from Hogan, Salem, Kent, and Tmac. I'd also like to see a strong start early, while its been good we've finished well in our first 2 NAB games of like to see us get early goals on the board,
  19. Hopefully he will play in the Casey game next week and maybe another one-two more games before he pushes for inclusion. Is he participating in match simulation yet?
  20. There's definitely cautious optimism from me. I don't think we'll have quite the rise that the dogs had but I hope we'll be in the hunt for the 8 come round 18-19. I think the deficiencies have been well identified on here and in those articles. Lack of class in defence is an issue for me, hopefully Salem will hep with that, but we need to become one of those sling shot teams that can take a turnover 10m for our defensive goal and turn it into a goal for us. Ball movement sounds like it's been a focus for the preseason, I hope it gets transferred into the real deal. Also we can't become Hogan focused, we need others presenting and for the mids to be looking at all options. Garlett, Petracca, Watts, and Vanders I see trying to fill this role, Pedo as well. Dawes is cooked I reckon.
  21. I am one that has critiqued him in this post without seeing the game but it was a general critique based on what I've seen in the past. I should also say that at his best he is an AA defender, he was killing it last year until Cloke pulled his 1 in 22 games performance against us, he didn't seem the be able to regain his confidence. That's not an excuse by the way, the best defenders are able to shake off bad days and get on with the job. But he is very important to the team and the teams future.
  22. I was listening to that moment on the radio, sounded like he was stuck in between kick the goal or pass it off. Sounds like he got it horribly wrong. I still like the sound of him, it seems like he's been working on forward pressure which is really important in todays game.
  23. I said this at the start of the year last year with Brayshaw, we've got ourselves a gem here. Looking forward to seeing him out there round 1!
  24. Wins are great for membership and general positivity around the club. Ultimately wins in NAB mean more to the lower teams because they need hope. That's not to downplay the results too much though, 2 wins are definitely better than 2 losses!
  25. There are players in the team that when they get the ball I murmur under my breath "nothing fancy, just get the ball away from goal". They seem to be in the defensive 50 a lot! Tommy Mac is most certainly one of them, there are times we're he doesn't seem to know his limitations and kicking is definitely one of the big ones. I haven't seen the game for yesterday but it doesn't shock me that there are claims he caused a few goals from direct turnovers. If you're a defender that should be the biggest slap in the face, because even if you've saved 2-3 goals through spoils you are still behind by your own making. He definitely needs to be working on his kicking, but even if his kicks are off he should be intelligent with how he uses it. Rather than trying to spot a risky 2 on 1 pass, recognise a contest on the boundary line where we can get it out a reset. Either way he should be getting it as far away as possible!
