And Goodwin did.
-
And again i think that the facts do not bear your assertion out that from an 'from an intensity perspective, Jack Watts was very, very ordinary' and frankly it is ridiculous to suggest he went at 'about 10% all day'. And suggesting 'things went his way' implies he was lucky to get four goals rather then the reality of it being as a result of his hard work 5 of his 19 possessions were contested. Of his 5 marks, 1 was contested (a ripping effort where muscled his way to the front to take a chest mark and kick a goal). It is worth noting only Pederson, Petracca and TMac had more (2 each, with TMac's coming from 12 overall). He laid 3 tackles (and his season average is 1.8), with only Viney and Oliver laying more. Plus he ran hard all day. All of this after a five day break and having to shoulder rucking duties for 80% of last weeks game. But even if you are one to discount stats watching the game tells me his intensity was where it needs to be. And i i would argue Goodwin came to the same conclusion. I reiterate that there is no way Goodwin gives him votes if his intensity was down. No way. Goodwin could not have made it clearer intensity is a complete non negotiable in his team. Lack of intensity was the reason Watts wasn't played in the first two pre season games and is the reason Kent is not currently in the team. As if he gives votes to a player who runs around 'about 10% all day'. Get serious. And you think Goody gave him votes 'for his scoreboard impact'. Why then didn't Hannan or Garlett get votes?

We must have been watching a different game. Jacks' intensity was terrific. There was one contest in the middle of the ground that he perhaps could have got low and b lined a rather than try and flick the ball out basketball style (which by the way he is great at) but apart from that i he did not squib one contest and his intensity was terrific.. He tackled well (which he has donee all year - compare his tackling stats to say Kent, went when it was his turn, banged bodies in the ruck (something some don't seem to give him much credit for on DL) and flew for marks really aggressively, something Goody was clear they wanted him to improve. There was no better example than the somewhat lucky free kick in front of goal he got in the third. He earned that free because he put his body on the line. Many commentators had Watts as our best. And that's because he was good in all aspects of the game not just silky outside skills. Oh and reading back through this thread i just saw he got 6 coaches vote. There is no way Goody gives a fella vote who doesn't show the required intensity. No way.

Yeah i think it really suits Goody's game plan and style

I thought Goody did a great job before and during this game. He got selection right and as pedo notes in his post match interview with burgs they worked on their stoppage 'craft' during the week and despite losing the tap outs convincingly won the centre clearances. He got the boys right to play in what must have been a tough week. During the game i thought his positional moves worked. He put Oliver forward for perhaps the first time this season and it go immediate results. . Vince into the cente worked as did freeing up TMac to roam. Petraaca taking Hurley (who was brilliant i have to say) was clever. And of course getting us reset at half time and playing as we should have all game in the second half was fantastic. Top job.

I wasn't a million miles away. Nailed the goal kickers

I was watching the hawks game. Paste tense. hopeless

Kent kicked the first for casey demons. 7 points to our 6 after 20 minutes. Source: https://twitter.com/GeelongVFL?ref_src=twsrc^tfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geelongcats.com.au%2Ffootball%2Fvfl

A really excellent analysis of the game here by Robert Shaw (by the by it shits me there is not this sort of preview of each game in the newspapers): http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/2017-04-28/shaws-preview-ess-vs-melb

Note to any Essendon spies reading the above report: It is a furphy. We are going tall, tall, tall. Will have multiple tall forwards to assist Watts, Weed and Omac will play, Bugg looking out of sorts and Tyson looking ready to explode. or maybe it's not a furphy..........

looking at the list KC supplied some doi have their correct numbers

i think we will win. And win well. We are a better side than them and funnily enough i think Ethiad will suit us. I predict at a 47 point win, and s such think the $6.50 for over 40 is great value as is the straight out win bet at $2.10. On the punting tip i reckon Garlett (who has been in great form), Watts and Trac are all good value for most goals for the game ($9.50, $12 and $15 respectively)
-
You think he'll get to the game late, or perhaps leave early?
-
Brilliant HT. What a beautiful version. He's a gem isn't he.

Gutted to lose. Though less so than against Freo, a game we should never have lost. On the positive side our effort was fantastic. Spencer barely played in the second quarter and im not sure exactly when Smith was injured but i found out on the radio at half time. So we were down 2 key players for almost 3/4s of the game and others were carrying injuries. We were spent in the last quarter. Watts was amazing and i reckon his intensity and leadership this season has vindicated Goodwin's approach to managing him. Watts response has been impressive and i respect him for at, as no doubt his team mates do. We were also dead unlucky with the weather i reckon. The rain in the first quarter favored the tigers in so far we didn't put the score on the board we would have if it was dry and they played wet weather footy better. But it belted down just minutes after the game finished. If it was raining like that in the last the Tigers would have struggled to make up the gap I leave the negative side for another time.

Looks like there might be some rain in the second half (note my cut and paste didn't work - the 3 predictions are 3pm, 6pm and 9pm respectively): Monday, April 24 3pm Shower 22°C 71% 4 N 16km/h 16°C 67% 6pm Shower 19°C 82% 3 NNE 11km/h 15°C 74% 9pm Heavy shower 18°C 86% 2 NE 11km/h 15°C 81%

Not sure i quite understand your point here but what i would say is that a concern for me is how easy we have been to score against this year.
-
On reflection you could probably add Stretch and Garlett to that list, so not too bad in some senses. Which is good for trenners.
-
Agree on point about the freo game (and the last point for that matter). At risk of repeating myself Trenners obvious lack of speed is no doubt an issue but for him, given that is not going to change much, the critical issue is more the speed of the rest of the team. You don't need the whole team to be jets, just 6 or 7 mid size players with really good leg speed. Trenners big problem is that we don't have 6 or 7 such players. We have Hunt, Kent, Oliver, Frost, JKH, and perhaps Kennedy and that is about all. I guess that is close but for example Hunt and kennedy are in the magoos. Where trenner's opportunity lies is that we still have too many players who make poor decisions and cough the ball up to often. He does both very well, which as you rjay would have been very handy against Freo. if we can get enough leg speed around him i am confident he could play regular senior footy off the half back or in the middle as an extractor and distributor.

.....blame the [censored] hopeless [censored] umpires.....
-
A critical issue has arisen that is germane to this thread given it is a match preview thread. Proof, if we needed it, that the there is conspiracy against the dees. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/melbourne-demon-jayden-hunt-fighting-hardheaded-battle-over-colourful-headband/news-story/5031f96cadcc47139b75545acdc31993

I have stumbled on to the tech forum. My head hurts. By the by Praha i love NBA 2k and am amazed at the HD graphics. $K sounds awesome. Have you played FIFA on 4k?

Don't always agree with you, but this is spot on.

The security inside in the g is a joke. Young, clueless guys, with no social skills who don't have a clue how to manage any sort of interaction with a patron. Which is unfortunate seeing that is their role. I'm loud and expressive but NEVER swear, abuse players or umpires and don't have any conflict with other fans (i won't say NEVER on that last point but I honestly i can't remember the last time i had any real argument at the footy, aprt from with my mates - no doubt some opposition fans are occasionally irked by my enthusiasm for the dees, but not once in 40 odd years of going to the footy has anyone complained to security about me ). I sit at the top of the Ponsford on and for some games there are bugger all people. I hate it when that is the case because i sit near the stairs and invariably there are several 'security guards' milling around me. One, because they are lazy and congregate in one area, two because there are bugger all people to bother with (why not redeploy them to an areas that does have fans in it) and three because of my vociferousness. Because i never cross any lines even they know they there is no need for them to do anything so they they often just stand around me. Sometimes i will ask them if there is a problem and they say no, no problem. It irks me. ift feels as i f they are waiting for me to do something they can jump on me for. Which never happens. It doesn't happen when i sit in the same spot and there is any sort of crowd - even though i am just as loud, perhaps even louder.
