  1. No disrespect Bob but i think you're a bit wide of the mark here as is David King. As RPFC intimates Goodwin is responsible for elements of the game plan related to ball movement and has been since he arrived. Last year he took a lot of the training sessions and it would appear this year has taken the bulk of them. The only real differences so far this year is that they are implementing a more aggressive ball movement (which has been characterized as Goodwin's game plan when in reality is no doubt a collective call) and he took the reins in the NAB games. In terms of communication i can't see anything changing this year at all and i'm not sure what you mean by Roos becoming the main communicator. Goodwin will continue to communicate his strategic messages at training and in reality there is little communication from the head coach to players during a game other than brief motivational speeches (which Roos is a master of) and reinforcing areas to focus on. The rest of the time the line coaches (including Goodwin) are communicating with the players. I vehemently disagree that Goodwin should take over on game day (as i've said i think you'll find Goodwin has already largely taken over training). Roos is the head coach, and should be the game day coach with Goodwin as his head assistant. Yes Roos is focused on defense however i think you - and for that matter King - do him a grave disservice to suggest he is beyond adapting his approach to a modern strategy. I don't mind commentators criticizing the demons but King is paid to analyse football and his suggestion Roos should step down and hand over the reigns is, in my view typical of his simplistic and surprisingly ill informed analysis.
  2. This goal beautifully illustrates the need for both a terrific defense and offence and i expect is the template for the next phase for the dees. I have no doubt the players will have been showed it a few times to reinforce the rewards for getting the defense and offence balance right (features a nice attacking kick from Tmac too. Worth noting the goal would not have been scored if he wasn't prepared to take the risk with that kick. The much maligned Grimes is also involved with a nice kick to a target): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vqYHbZIvBE
  3. Indeed. Nothing quite as satisfying as a new soft pack of Styvos, melting the plastic, ripping a neat hole in the silver foil and tapping the first smoke from the pack to enjoy.
  4. I 100% agree and to my mind King's comments in that Fox analysis just shows up how [censored] poor and shallow so much so called analysis is in the footy media. It really annoys me. I mean, please as if Goodwin has been a silver bullet and Roos is an out of touch dinosaur still wedded to outdated defense first strategies. For Pete's sake Roos came up with the succession plan and no doubt was instrumental in selecting Goodwin - and one assumes that a key factor was Goodwin's strategic philosophy. Where is the kudos for Roos for having the courage to give Goodwin the head coach role during the NAB games. Given they made their expectation of winning all 3 games very clear it takes a pretty self confident and assured man to do that (let Goodwin coach) as such simplistic comments as those made by King were pretty likely to be made. And as you say Ros has always made it clear that the critical step is getting the defense right before moving to the attack - a point made by one of the commentators in tha saints game who said the critical feature of the Hawks reign is averaging over 100 points and conceding less than 86 on average. We have sorted the second part of that equation. Now for the first part.
  5. I agree on Wallace. Not sure why some people are so negative about him - perhaps it's his slightly annoying voice - but i reckon he is the most balanced analyst going round. Shits all over King
  6. Yep you may well be right about OMac. I agree btw on Dunn being our glue down back. Criminally underrated player
  7. OMac might play i guess but certainly not at Dunn's expense. Jay Clark is reasonably experienced so it is amazing for him to write something so implausible
  8. I can't imagine this quote from jay Clark would please dunny too much: 'McDonald, 20, also continued his excellent preseason, taking several strong grabs in defence, and could edge out Lynden Dunn for a Round 1 guernsey' http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/melbourne/angus-brayshaw-and-oscar-mcdonald-firm-for-round-1-selection-after-strong-outings-in-vfl-practice-match/news-story/8c5fb375c6009f2d7abc84740316977c
  9. Actually i wouldn't mind the dees using Horses. In fact i'd love it. However i would use this (how brilliant would it be to hear this blaring over those god awful speakers at the G!):
  10. I think it is terrific. Loved the subtle use of Daisy 9ie just another player and in the same shot as Jones). The only negative - and it is a pretty big one - is that it uses a Derwayne sample.
  11. I can't believe i'm saying this because i hate Docklands but it would be crazy for it to not continue as the second AFL ground in Victoria. Why? It is perfectly located - a ground is needed to service the West. I live in Altona and as much as i dislike the ground it is brilliant to be able to get one train from my place to the ground. Brilliant. For me the time it takes out of my weekend (kids, housework etc etc) is a big factor and getting PT to the g, whilst not too onerous can take another 30 each way than Docklands. Praha notes that it screws up Docklands. I agree but who cares? Its not the AFL's responsibility to make the Docklands a pleasant environment (by the by i reckon the Docklands has been a huge [censored] up and unbelievably we look like repeating exactly the same mistakes at Fisherman bend - but that's another story) We don't play there that often so the fact that it is a [censored] ground is not an issue for me - that said many people like it and as someone who sits at the top of the Ponsford the view from the top level at DL is brilliant The AFL will own it soon enough. Use it until the end of its lifespan (say 2035) and it will be worth billions more than it is now. They should buy land under the Bolte now or in the ezone just past North Melbourne Station as someone else suggested and build a new ground once Ethiad is finished
  12. I had to laugh. Was listening to SEN on the way to work and even though the Ox was laughing you could tell Hogan's quip about the relative accuracy hit its mark as he coudln't help but say that anyone can kick goals from 30 metres out. Good on Hoges for firing a shot back. If Hogan had kicked 19.44 last year, not the other way around then Schwarz might have had a point. Be he didn't so the comment was just plain dumb.
  13. That's something ive really noticed as well. From the games and training reports the vibe seems supper positive and the camaraderie just terrific. Watch Salem's goal. After he kicks it he is all smiles and his teammates swarmed him. Oliver was laughing and you could just see the positivity and connection. Similarly after Bugg's goal his teammates really got around him (was it his first goal for the club?). Great to see and it is what Roos has been working on
  14. blimey i have never seen so many smiles. Who is that guy who look like Hogan, the one that's smiling like a Cheshire cat in every shot?
  15. Looks like i didn't win the prize to attend the launch and sit with the players
  16. I really like how you edited your post for spelling and deliberately misspelt spelling. At least i hope it was deliberate. Note: the quote is IRW not ProDee (he would neither make a joke or misspell a word). Weird stuff happening on DL
  17. What's also funny is i posted that without seeing Jnrmacs post above listing the 15 doggie players (i promise)
  18. Had to laugh when i read this comment below the article from a Kosta. I can only assume Kosta is a regular Demonland poster: Gawn overtake Goldstein? Melb make finals? What a joke. They were getting smashed by Port for half the game until they ran out of legs because they capped their interchange to 90 and Melbourne went all out and had 50 more interchanges. Yes, 50. Pathetic. Then they got smashed for 3 quarters against a Dogs side without every single player from their TOP 15 FROM THEIR BNF. Yes, all 15. Pathetic. Are you getting commission for selling Melbourne memberships or something?
  19. Classic Melbourne? I wish classic Melbourne meant switching off, kicking four goals seven to a solitary point in the last quarter, taking the intensity up a couple of levels and coming from 3 goals down to win by two. We can only dream that becomes classic Melbourne. I have to say Bombay my definition of disappointing is different to yours.
  20. I 100% agree. And i have little doubt the club have made it clear where they stand. Being dropped in round 23 and his subsequent comments about the need to become more competitive is proof of that. As you say (and for what its worth Jack also) he started well enough but needs to stay at that level.
  21. "But with the way Melbourne are looking at the moment, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else to be honest." Fellow forward Jesse Hogan has delayed contract talks with Melbourne until the end of 2016, despite two-years still left to run on his current deal. Watts was unsure whether he too would join Hogan in holding off negotiations but said his immediate priority was focusing on his on-field performances. "I haven't really thought about that to be honest," he said. "I'll let it play out. I wouldn't mind playing some reasonable footy first and then speak to the club and get something sorted hopefully." - See more at: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-03-08/demon-watts-to-look-at-free-agency-options#sthash.KnAa9res.dpuf
  22. But BB surely you concede that in all likelihood his coaches are directing him to take risks? Because if they're not he is regularly refusing to follow directions (ie not to take risks) and therefore would be dragged or dropped. If the coaches think the risks outweigh the rewards then they would tell him to handball more and not try marginal kicks. And i'm sure TMac would comply with that directive. Roos is a premiership coach and Goodwin seems to know what he is about so if they want TMac to continue to take risks with his kicks and be agressive that is more than good enough for me. That said i respect your right to have an opposing view. Perhaps email Roosy and let him know it.
