Agree. There is definetley something about him, an x factor.

A good point i reckon. Good for the players to play new roles but also for the coaches to have extend themselves and come up with creative options and decisions. It has also meant that more players have been given AFL time and exposure than would have been the case if we had less injured. That said it goes without saying it will be great to have Gawn back. Having to do so much rucking has impacted on how dangerous Watts has been. He has been ok this year and I've loved his endevour and dare i say it his intensity (loved hearing 'crunching tackle from Watts' in the call form the crows game) but we need his class in our forward line

[censored] you all! Woops. Sorry. Spending so much time on a, largely, anonymous internet football fan forum has left me desensitized and confused about realities and proper social conventions

Some good points. Sides do not win flags without good midfields - and not just a handful of good mids but a raft. And we are getting close to that. We have some real bulls as well. Bulls that will do well in the furnace of finals. To that end it was interesting to see Hannan go into the middle last week for a short time. And i agree with with the war of attrition idea. A very long season and we have had our share of injuries but in a close season they key will be staying in touch with the top 8 and hopefully, with some luck, having a healthy list come September. That is exactly what happened for the doggies last year. In addition to Vandenberg and Melksham we have some other stronger, older bodies who might come handy in the heat of finals - Wagner, Hannan, Mckenna, Bull Smith and even Maynard. Yes all pretty inexperienced but strong and all early 20's.

Dont get me started. Content is king and there is such a huge opportunity to promote the club and in particular radicaly boost rhe value proposirion to sponsers. Since getting chromecadt earlier this year i routinely cast videos from my phone, tablet and laptop to the tv. Including stuff from the mfc. This and streaming is how media will be consumed more and more. It is why tv channels will struggle. The clubs that get ahead of this will have a huge opportunty.

They all play Donkey Kong. Except the ones who play Galaga.

Is it hard to tip a cow?

And tendons, which is apparently what was also injured, making it such a long recovery

From this article (note: no firewall): James Harmes is best placed to earn recall after lighting up VFL affiliate with 40+ disposals, while Jake Melksham, Alex Neale-Bullen and Billy Stretch could also be considered. “All those guys will be considered, Jake Melksham’s coming back from suspension after a playing a really good VFL game so he’s also in the mix as well,” Goodwin said. “Clearly the guys that went out there on the weekend performed really well so our changes will be limited.”

All good MD, was jesting with the you win comment. As i said i reckon Melksham is ahead right now not by much. Very similar players actually. They go hard. Can play HB, mid, wing and even up forward. Both kick a long ball but both can turn the ball over quite a bit and i don't think either are the sharpest tools in the shed. Melksham has a fair bit of AFL experience, which perhaps gives him an edge.
-
Ok. You win. I still think Melk is ahead of Harmes in terms of getting a senior call up.
-
'I thought his effort and ability to show strong effort over four quarters meant he was clearly one of our best players. Although there are some areas of his game we’re still working on'
-
Its a wonder he gets picked isn't it. How much do those coaches get paid?
-
A strange phenomena isn't it. I'm sure there is a relevant psychological condition that covers such behavior. Trollitis? Thread worm?
-
I didnt say blinding stats. I said he played a blinder.Plapp was effusive in his praise of melk after that game. Compare that review to this weeks whre he was mych more tempered about harmes despite him getting 40 plus touches

I am constantly amazed on demonland how differely i assess particular players to some posters. Tyson is a case in point. Are we watching the same game bobby clark. Yes tyson can turn it over at times - just as one of our best kicks in lewis can going by tge list above. But often it is because he is an inside mid kicking from congestion. What he can do that few in our team can (hibberd being one, watts another) is hit targets and/ or put the the ball to advantage of teammates 50 -60 metres away. This is a critical skill, particularly in todays footy where getting it out the back of high presses quickly is so important in terms of setting up scoring chances. There was a terrific example in the crows game that set up a goal. Add his inside abilty, strength, his smarts and the way he can create space on his left side and you a very valuable player. As evidenced by the fact he is a best 22 lock week in, week out. But what would goody know. Maybe he picks him because hw likes his hair.
-
Dont think so. Melk played a blinder after getting dropped. If anything a week out due ti being reported will freshen him up. As s half back flanker who can run and carry sn obvious replacement for hunt
-
Interesting. No watts. Can you do score involvements?

[censored] tom mcdonald! Jokes....

Was thinking exactly the same thing. Well allmost. I'd add to your excellent points that quite a few of his tackles are run down from behind jobs, where the defender is attempting to run it out of our back half. Not only does it create a scoring opportunity it can also foil one as so many goals these days start with run and overlap from the back half.

I think you are spot on in terms of the the sharing and caring for each other will help this team. The two most used word by players to describe their relationship with each other this year are mates and brothers. What Jessie is going through will bring them together even more. Also before the Pink Lady game PJ (and a player, who i can't recall) mentioned a woman who worked for the club had been diagnosed with cancer and that had it affected everyone. Such a wicked disease. No doubt such things bring the whole club together, not just the players.

Have we entered a new era of Optimism ?????

I feel much the same way. Which is why all four losses have been so painful this year. I expected we would win them . And each game we had our chances to win. In previous years the feeling was very different. -
I find these threads a bit frustrating in so far as often it is not clear if a poster is predicting what WILL happen or positing what they think, in their opinion, SHOULD happen. In any case i think there WILL be no change and also believe that is what SHOULD happen. If i was on the selection panel and making the decsion i reckon the players up for discussion would be Kent, Weed and Hannan. Kent was ok, though still needs to tackle more. Hannan only had 8 disposals but there is something i like about what he brings (a mix of x factor, competitiveness and that way he attacks the ball when flying for marks). Weideman is borderline. Agree with Dapper Dan a key forward needs more than just 5 tackles to earn his keep. Marks and goals are his KPI's. But in the end if it was my call i would leave it unchanged. You don't make changes to a side after such a performance. And i expect Goody will agree. I really hope Weed stands up this week. it is a great opportunity to make a statement and he has the chance to cement his spot in the absence of Hoges. I have a funny feeling that he will have a cracker.
