  1. Our next game against them on 9 july at the g should be interesting
  2. Definite brain fade, though i reckon Rance's was worse and was more a brain snap. Rowe was niggling at Hogan all day, something he will cop all his career and he will need to learn to deal with it. But whilst not an excuse it is a reason. What reason did rance have - other than the fact they were getting beaten? Watts was certainly not at him all day. It still makes me furious how commentators seemed to exuse that hit on Watts becuase of the pressure he was under carrying the side. Sheesh.
  3. No having a shot at you L36, and you are not the only poster to use the phrase but the phrase love tap should not be used. Ever. In any circumstances. I assume i don't need to explain why
  4. No nor i. I could care less about the doctor reports and the MRP inconsistencies. Bother deserve to be suspended. So stupid. particularly Hogan. Cost us a shot on goal and we lose our best forward at a time where we are trying to build momentum. Dumb
  5. I forgot a couple of random thoughts: I felt sick for most of the second half, dreading a loss with very fiber in my body - much to my kids amusement Garlett was huge. His run down was of course brilliant but to go back and the kick the sealer from the outer edge of his range was clutch Weeds first goal was another glimpse into the future. I love his attack in the air Maybe, in hindsight Gawn vs Kruezer is more akin to Winx vs Hartnell (noting of course that Winx beat Hartnell by 5 lengths at their last head to head - a blood good horse Hartnell, but Win is a once tow or three generation horse)
  6. Watched the game 'as live' this morning from 7am. Succeeded in total information blackout until i saw a text from my crows supporting brother in law on the home page of my phone. Only read one word before throwing my phone away - the dees. Was he congratulating me on how great the dess were looking (unlikely) or winding me up about a loss (much more likely). So i approached the game with a high degree of trepidation. Some random thoughts: I though early on my predictions of a big win were going to be proven correct. We should have been 4 goals up after the first quarter with way we dominated possession Salem was unbelievable all game, but particularly in the first quarter. I love the time he has and his clean skills We could have barely butchered the ball more than we did in the fist 3 qs. Lewis was as bad as anyone (with eexception of tyson who had some shockers). Of the mids the only player who i can't recall making a huge turnover was Jones. After quarter time Bolton went defensive (which i should have predicted) and clogged the game up. We struggled in the second and in particular the third to link up and penetrate our forward half. Good coaching, reminiscent of Roos in his first year at the dees with emphasis on defense first and minimising scoring. Aided by a good back half. The game after quarter time was played on their terms - even in the last Watts did well in the last quarter when he went into the ruck - a point made by one of his biggest critics over the years, Leigh Matthews. Frustrated me big time at one point we he didn't mark a ball he should have and then redeemed himself just a few minutes later with a critical mark mark on half forward. Even if you are not not a Watts fan, hand on heart, is there any player at the dees you would rather have the ball if a critical kick need to be made (shot at goal or field kick) Our back six won us the game - and yes that includes OMac. I love the way Jetta plays and TMac was awesome Hogan has to do some work with a psychologist. His miss from dead in front 30 meters out in the last after a brilliant kick from Watts on his left was unforgivable, given the circumstances and continues a worrying trend of him missing critical goals (can you imagine Dunstall missing that goal? or Watts for that matter?). But his brain snap against Rowe was much, much worse. Deserved weeks and got them. Simply not good enough. Our last quarter was fantastic in so far as we willed ourselves to win. A six goal quarter where we barely could get flowing. Goodwin was effusive in his praise for their effort and said a a couple of times how proud he was. Thus was exactly the sort of win good footy sides pull out. We were down, played poorly, the opposition scrapped very hard and got ahead. Yet we found a way to win. Credit, again, must go to Goodwin. A loss here would have really set us back. A win - even an ugly one - keeps us moving forward Whilst it was indeed an ugly win the bookies had the line at 28 points. This is as reliable an indication of relative chance as any. We won by 22 points, so only a goal off the line. This should be factored into to any assessment of the merit or otherwise of the win
  7. Reasonable yes but the blues are coming from a very long way back talwnt wise. They simply do not have the cattle. Nor do north, freo and to a much lesser extent tigers and magpies. Gols coast do but their issues liw elsewhere
  8. In all honesty i think we will towell blues up. From a punting perspective there is real value in the dees line of 28.5 as i supect we will win by 50 plus. Due to a basketball event i am involved in I cant go so will be chromecating the replay 'as live' tomorrow morning at 6am. Which means from 3:20 a full media blackout. Go dèes
  9. Agree PD on both these points. Great golas kicking instincts and can kick with both feet, which is unusual for a lefty (and i love the fact he is a lefty - we have quite crew of lefties now, something i have no doubt was a delibertate focus in recruiting). I think the long kick in the first quarter that set up Garlett's first goal was right foot. I have watched the two interviews he has done with Burgan and he seems a really switched on, smart fella. It's great to have a good smattering of such players at the club. Also comes across as very level headed. A really interesting selection.
  10. Treloar wasn't their best mid. At least i don't think so. I would have had Greene, Cognilio and Shiel all ahead of him.
  11. Not sure i agree. It was instructive they did nor chase a tall defender last trade period. They obviously are confident the omac boys will do the job. Risky also as a tall key back who is actually any good will cost an arm and a leg. And if they then dont perform you have a lot of broken eggs in one basket. Early days for carlisle but he could not keep up with hogan and was almost a liabilty. An exspensive gamble by the saints. They might have been better trading in a couple of decent mid sized, mobile half backs like we did with hibberd and melksham. There is also less need for stay a5 home gorilla keepers as there are less stay at home gorillas. Hogan is the proto type forward. Strong, can clunk marks but huge tank and gets around the ground - can even go into the midfield. Look at what hawkins has done wirh his physique and where/how he played against freo. A key back has to be able to run with the forwards now.
  12. You're kiddind aren't you? Do you honestly think they only plan for the next match?
  13. Jones said on SEN (he is on Tuesday mornings at about 7am on a segment called The Inner Sanctum) that having a stronger midfield has enabled him to play less time as a mid and more time on the wing and HB. He said it makes a huge difference in terms of post game recovery not getting smashed from pillar to post all game. Has to help during games, both in terms of being fresher for games but also less physically worn during games
  14. The thread title implies some degree of competitiveness between Gawn and Kruezer, but they are in two different leagues. Gawn vs Kruezer is like: Winx vs Prized Icon Real Madrid vs Perth Glory Ali v Bugner Spurs v Melburne United Bolt vs anyone Dees vs Bliues You get the idea.
  15. Agree but also let give jack the credit for getting front position. On on the couch they were talking about the likelihood of teams only having the one ruck man and Jackson Trengove being the new model of the second ruck - a mobile, versatile player who plays forward but can be an on baller as well. Funny because Jack was really the first to play that role last year (a Goodwin innovation?)
  16. No im certainly not. Of course he still needs to develop and improve. Jones makes that point in this excellent piece from radio tgis morning when responding to a question from jimmy bartel about how well the mac bros work together He also makes the point that he and his brother are the twin pillars down back and work togeher very well. If you dont likw omac you better get used to seeing him week in and week out https://embeds.audioboom.com/publishing/playlist/v4?bg_fill_col=%23ecefef&boo_content_type=channel&data_for_content_type=3381427&image_option=small&link_color=%2358d1eb&player_theme=light&src=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.audioboom.com%2Fchannels%2F3381427%2Faudio_clips%3Finclude_child_channels%3D1#Nathan Jones - Inner Sanctum Tuesday 27th March 2017
  17. Who told us that?
  18. What is FACT is that you stated that Omac is not up to the required standard. For the sake of the argument lets say Goodwin agrees with your assessment of OMac. If that were the case goodwin could have instead selected either keilty (who played Omac's role very successfully for much of last year) or pederson, who has lost 10kgs in order, in his words, to be come more mobile. Pederson is an experienced AFL player who is fit and has played CHB before. This was must win game - as both Bernie and Lewis (and any number of commentators) said post game a potential 8 point game that could well set up our season. Are you honestly saying Goodwin would, in these circumstances, pick a player not up to AFL standard? What is fact is that since being first selected by Roos (and Goodwin who would have had a major say in selection last year) OMac has not been dropped once. What is also fact is that he was selected in all 3 of the JLT games, games in which Goodwin made it clear he was picking his best 22. Goodwin had the the opoportunity to give someone else a chance in the JLT and didn't. What was interesting in this regard is that he elected to bring in Hannan and jetta, who didn't play JLT, showing he was prepared to drop players. And he didn't drop OMac. What is fact is Omac continues to be selected every week, suggesting he is a lock for best 22. it also suggests Goodwin does not agree with your assessment that Omac is not up to the required standard. To be honest STMJ i think you are confusing FACT and SUPPOSITION.
  19. Agree, sort of. i think he has really enhanced his ability to move laterally and side step. And perhaps is more explosive from a standing start. He is also an excellent left foot kick now. Full respect to him as he has continuously improved his game through his career, something few players do really (at least as much as he has). Some credit must go to roosy in this regard as he challenged jonesy a couple of years ago to go to another level - something Jonesy initially resented i think but then took on board. I always rated Jones as a solid B grade player but he is really pushing A grade level now i reckon.
  20. Spot on. There is absolutely no chance omac will be dropped. What does that tell you? It tells me Goodwin does not share the view of some DL posters about his ability and form. Similarly it was not surprise to see Goodwin contradict the views of a number of DL posters who suggested Jetta might struggle to get back into the side. As if you leave our most consistent and reliable defender out of the side. He is smart, predictable, does not waste possessions, rarely tuns the ball over, understands his role (and his limitations) and as roos pointed out after he completely out marked a saints forward one on one hardly ever beaten in a one on one duel.
  21. Then last week was an aberration as they only put segments up on fox sports not whole episodes - which makes sense given they want people who actually pay to get some benefit
