If they're fit. They play. If they're not, or they have nagging injuries then don't play them. Replace injured players with the likes of Maric, Morton, Bate, Cheney. I believe i read somewhere that Bailey said that none of Blease, Tapscott or Fitzpatrick would play in the one's this year. I love the eternal optimism of the finals hopefuls, but the realist inside me says it won't happen. As long as we have everyone on the list fit and ready to go for the start of pre-season, i don't care what they do now.

How has Melbourne performed for 2010?
Grandson of a gun replied to Disco Demons's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gave em a B+. Very good steps forward. Still a long long way to go. -
With Jack Viney a probable father son selection i think the midfield is fine at the moment. I want to see another big young KPF drafted in. Perhaps two. 12 wins. A final at the G against the Hawks where we give them a 10 goal a$$ whooping. Jimmy Stynes..................

Pay him whatever, i couldn't care less. He is the future. Will Miller be around for the next tilt at a flag. No. Then the argument about replacing Watts with him ends. Maric has been given opportunities in the past and hasn't shown the required level of improvement or desire. That is why it is now harder for him to crack a game. Football is a ruthless world. It isn't always fair. Get over it people. It is often said that the empty vessel makes the most noise and for all those Watts-bashers on here it is deafening. No foresight. No patience. No idea.

No changes. Unless a mystery injury surfaces forcing a late withdrawal. Still have no confidence playing this mob though. They have our measure and unfortunately i think they will beat us up. Man i hope i am wrong.

Something to do with inducement i believe. Bottom line, about all they could legally sign i believe is a 'letter of intent' which is a fancy way of saying, i'm interested but can't/don't want to commit yet. There has been so much of this crap flying around (a la Dean Cox who has just come out to squash all the rumours about him) that unless you can quote the actual source, your post is meaningless.

Your thoughts are good and i tend to agree. Also Buddy has a tendancy to lead up the ground then work back and across hard. Roughy stays more at home and that is where Frawley is best suited. I would back Frawley in one on one with Roughy and tell Rivers to concentrate on helping Garland with Buddy. Frawley is also more mobile at ground level than Roughy so should be able to run off him. We need to nullify their run however. Shut them down in the midfield and exploit their undermanned defence. That is the real key IMO.

At this stage of the season i can't see them bringing the Gys back. Get the kid right for next year. Likewise given Grimes' history i wouldn't be in to rushing him back. If he ain't right then put him off for the season so he is ready to go for the pre-season. And Beamer to miss again. Sandilands must have the pointiest knees in the league.

My 3 word player analysis V The Scum's poor cousins
Grandson of a gun replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
A pretty good overall summation joeboy. Although i think everyone had a touch of the fumbles today......... -
Agreed. and he attacks every pack and every contest with ferocity that is first rate. I love his hardness at the pill and that is just one more reason why he is in our best 22.
-
Good win considering how poorly we used the ball today. And the fumbles that just about everyone in the team had. Good teams win ugly and that's what i believe we did today. Hawthorn will crucify us if we turn it over like that next week, here's hoping the boys clean their skills and ball handling up during the week.

Bennell shows his class when he gets the ball. Ok he didn't get a hell of a lot of it today but when he does he cuts the opposition apart. If people can't see that then they are blind. That is why they persist with him. Perhaps he has found that home for now at half back/wing. Jones showed today why he is in our best 22. His attack at the contest is second to none. He creates pressure and he goes at the thing like a bull at a gate. When things were looking bad he was one of the few having a real dip and winning the hard ball. His disposal efficiency was also above 80% today. I love having him there to help out Scully/trengove and McKenzie. Moloney will surely come back through the two's now having missed 4 weeks (that's if he comes back at all or they might just put him on ice). How could anyone suggest bringing in Maric. He was horrible at Casey and like Miller, has shown repeatedly that he doesn't take his chances and improve. I asked the bloke i was sitting with whether a bloke kicking 10 goals in the reserves would see him in the team the next week. Miller is not the future of the club but i also believe that you have to show that you will reward good pereformances in the two's. Jurrah was very good today (aside from a couple of dropped marks and missed goals), that kind of output each week is what we want. I can't see who to drop to bring in Miller. Barring injuries or perhaps the enforced 'resting' of a youngster, he may not get in.

Do you want us to make the finals?
Grandson of a gun replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Your decision is admirable DJ. Still don't think i could pass on Jen. And yes the 17 seconds would include clothes removal! -
Three goals cleary haven't been paid. There was also a dubious one in the North v Freo game. It is time the AFL made a move and put in 2 goal umpires at each end. Christ the NRL do it for a game that has no bearing on hitting posts. Get with the times Andrew and stop this ridiculous situation before it costs a team a final. Just like the tanking issue, his head will be firmly planted in the sand............

Jamar- yes. Green- yes. Frawley- yes. Sylvia- maybe. Davey- maybe.

Do you want us to make the finals?
Grandson of a gun replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
We won't make it so the argument is mute. We have a mountain of work to do to even be in the frame for finals. As Jimmy aluded to the other night. The last 4 games should be the final stepping stones before an all out assault next year on the pre-season and then finals (ie winning half as many games again on top of this year, meaning 12 or more meaning we make the finals). -
Jonesy has been a great workhorse for 4 and a bit seasons. He continues to improve and develop his game. He is out injured this week, as displayed by the fact he didn't appear for Casey. Many of his possessions are in the guts under extreme pressure as the extractor. I don't have any problem with this. Judd turns it over quite a bit too under the same conditons (and i am not saying Jones is the next Judd, just the positional comparison). He (along with Moloney provides that strong body in the guts. Something we will need for a few years before the latest batch have develped fully). He will be back in the team before the end of the year and i have no doubt is an integral part of the depth and development going forward.

My wife has a girlfirend who drinks at the same pub as martins ex-girlfrineds mother and she says it is all horse sh1te. I tend to agree. He is injured. Clearly has been for most of the year. Good luck to him, hope the surgery goes well and he gets a good pre-season into him and then we will see where he is at. I need another beer.... Go Dees.

Here here.

Hillarious.

Even though we are debt free, my understanding is that we will still receive part of the AFL's special assistance allowance. It is designed for clubs with smaller supporter bases and financial capacity than the Pies, Bombers, Blues, Eagles etc. It may be reduced to a degree though.

Melbourne players discipline
Grandson of a gun replied to John Crow Batty's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree. As we grow and develop, a bit of physical aggression and intimidation will be required to win a flag. Quite simply, without it we would just be another Bulldogs. Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, West Coast, Port, Brisbane, Essendon. What did they all have in common? When at their peak they were all strong, hard, physical teams who weren't afraid to have a go even if it meant a few players getting suspended every now and then. There is a fine line i agree but i would expect the aggression and arrogance to develop in our team for us to win a flag. It is one of the key ingredients. -
Is now a good time to float the Casey solution ?
Grandson of a gun replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
All the work to re-align with the MCC and make the MCG OUR home again would be undone. That is our ground and that is our spiritual home. Casey is fantastic as a summer base and community connection but your suggestion is a backwards step. -
A great day and a great emblem. Have a look at the real collingwood emblem and you will see that it too has much going on. As many posters have said, there is the club's official emblem and there will also be (i'm sure) some drilled down versions for various marketing areas. Congratulations on the MFC Board for the courage and work to this point. Keep it up.

Proud to be a member of this great club. Jimmy is the force that galvanised a fractured shadow of a club and provided the direction required to get everyone marching to the same tune. Great work Jim. You are a true LIVING LEGEND. Now to make us a force again.....................
