Resilience - MFC Players V MFC Supporters (Merged Thread)
monoccular replied to baysidedave's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why?? Would not happen if the supporters were not let down by the players so regularly, and wouldn't effect the players if they had any collective mental toughness and ruthless leadership on and off the field. So, Paul, just bloody fix it!! Only then will we stop having negative thoughts. Absolutely pathetic excuse that one. -

I think your last sentence says a lot about how Demon fans have come to think, and after all for pretty good reasons. We cannot win two on the trot, even against "easy beats"! And when we are expected to win, or do well, we have usually put in a shocker. Is that mental weakness on the players'part, or are we actually that bad? It is certainly not causes by the supporters, it is entirely caused by (what is sadly sometimes referred to as) the 'performances' on the field. Give us something to look forward to and we will stop being negative. But do not dare to blame the supporters. It is the supporters who provide continuity over the decades: in truth, coaches, players and many other club officials are actually transitory mercenaries, only some of whom have or develop lifelong love of the club. Supporters on the other hand are far more rusted on, and have every right to think however they like especially when we are so regularly offered unfulfilled promises. So don't you dare cast aspersions on the fans. How dare you. The only thing I can agree with is his statement that " I think Robbo is still a bit confused" but that actually isn't very perceptive: the whole footy world, doping apologists excepted, can see that with their eyes closed. -

Yes, Mr Roos (and Mr Jackson), Demon fans are negative as we repeatedly get told by various coaches, and other club officials that we have turned the corner and success is imminent, yet the team repeatedly fails to perform on a consistent basis. We haven't won consecutive games for many years - we still get thrashed regularly despite being told that thrashings will be a thing of the past. Yes - we are negative, because most of what we are offered by you and the team is negative. Is this about to change? I am sure that all true believers want to be positive: give us something to be truly positive about. Then we will be positive. (Then we may even consider turning up to the penultimate meaningless Sunday afternoon game of the season at bloody Doglands.) -
Agree with most of your points, though the Hawks in particular but most top teams regularly break commandment 10. But they do it with precision most of the time, and use it to set up forward thrusts on the open side.

Yes - there were some good and unexpected wins but I have to strongly disagree with your assessment of the Bears win as a good one. And in the good wins the players seemed unrestrained, perhaps unrestrained by expectations, and took the game on. And they looked good....only the following week to revert to their introverted game plans the following weeks and losing. The bears game was the only one we scrambled a win from using the negative game plan. Yet the coaching panel and / or players didn't seem to realise this, so we looked bad and lost. Can anyone remember any time since the great finish to the 2000 season when we played any good games in the last part of the season? It has been totally uninspiring and cannot do anything for membership renewals.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
monoccular replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Starting at the selection table this week.Frankly don't care who comes in but those who are not our future can go out. Get some runners. Fitzy can run - put him on the wing or in the guts even. -
Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...

And, follow up question, how do you propose doing that?? -

But seriously Bob Hawke's (or was it Bill Hayden's) comment about the drover's dog could win that one may be true of Roos at Sydney. 45 games, 10 wins - 22%. How does that compare with Bailey or Neeld? Not much better. So many promises of "being more competitive" and "important to finish the season well" are turning out to be so much hot air. -
How true.....they give absolutely nothing. Zero. And they will put their hands out over the off season and ask for our loyalty once again. If they offered a "performance based" membership package, say $10 or even 20 for a win and zero for a loss, I may consider re-signing. Willing to pay for their loyalty to me. But otherwise after nearly 60 years I have had enough crappy excuses and false dawns.

Maybe anyone, even perhaps Neeld, could have got a flag out of that Swans' list, and maybe therefore Roos isn't a great messianic coach after all. He may be frustrated, but he hasn't been following this rabble for 50+ years. Question - was he still at Fitzroy at the end? Hopefully not a bad omen. Just saying -
"If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got." Had they not lost two on the trot, yes, they may have "rested" players next week, and just possibly we could have given them a shake.....but...... Unfortunately we have to name 22 players each week - have to have 38? (or 40) on the list. So we can't just play those who are prepared to give their all - we would field about half a team.

I am a 15Y+ member and will not renew next year. I have had enough. And I think fans should frankly boycott round 23 - show the club that we have had enough. (It was to be a rare opportunity for me to get to a game but...why?)
-
I have always thought that such talk was not warranted, but seriously, after today, I do just wonder. Like a malestrom, it won't happen until the team performs, and it won't while they don't. Downhill spiral......heading for terminal decline. It will be certainly at least one 15 year member less next year. I do have the rare opportunity to get to the game in round 23, but there is absolutely no way I will be wasting my time. Will probably go to a park and watch the grass grow - more inspiring that watching the Dees, sadly.

I want an honest explanation, no excuses. IF there has been illness over the past month that has made it difficult to field a fit team then it is time to say so. Surely this must be the case. Even at our lowest ebbs in the past things have not been so bad, and our better performed players just seem (by the sound of it - haven't been able to get to a game for ages) physically and mentally out of it. Sure the club wouldn't want to reveal this in advance, but we need to hear what is going on. So, I want an explanation rather than an apology or excuses.

Some people don't understand the complexities of the human body. They should read this http://www.podiatrytoday.com/what-you-should-know-about-navicular-stress-fractures A rare and extremely difficult injury to diagnose - but of course they know more than Missen and or staff Another simplistic overstatement. There were many saying that he looked injured and I am sure the club thought so too but just couldn't get the diagnosis. The retrospectoscope is a wonderful medical tool.
-
and they want to dilute what little talent they have by having four of them on the field. Eventually they will want 20, one for each pair of players.
-
And lets all hope that it is round 1 2016. A big win over <whoever AFL rigs us to play>.
-
Is Fitzy injured or ill again? OMG he showed a turn of pace for anyone, let alone a giraffe.
-
OMG - draw! Cats have stolen the Tigers' spot at 9.
-
Saints just couldn't buy a goal - and now cats hit the front. Too much defence.
-
Stevie J staging for a free - didn't con the maggot that time.
-
How bad was that "deliberate" against Saints just before ¾ time? It was a pretty crappy but rushed kick when off balance. I guess the umpire's coach will say - "correct decision" when it was just plain wrong. Fortunately didn't cost a goal. You forgot the penalty that they initially applied to young Viney when Lynch carelessly became sandwiched between a braced Jack and Georgiou. 3 weeks as I recall even though Jack just stopped and was impacted. Not "back to"......continuing. I totally agree.....the ultra defensive game would change, by necessity, if forwards did this, especially strong fast agile ones. A bit reminiscent of "Pagan's paddock" when Carey was at his peak. We could do the same with Hogan particularly if we get more guys like Salem who can give a long accurate kick off half back.
-
A couple of times he looked the true deer in the headlights. Hasn't fitted in at all. We're Sphanger not injured he would struggle to get a game. Their midfield is way ahead of ours. Great attitude (in some games).

OMG Monfries selfishly trying to make himself a hero. Could well turn the game.
