Maybe some sort of round, with incentives eg 9v10, 11v12 etc with the winners of those games to gain the better dfaft pick . So in the 17 v 18, the winner would go pick 1, the loser pick 2 etc. sort of reverse tanking, albeit at a fine tuning level.

OK then Munga. Does anyone know where / when / what is the situation with regard to Majak's rape allegations / trial? No speculation of judgment, please, just facts.

This again raises my old hobby horse about sharing of the gate takings. Especially for games at shared home grounds, NB our annual game vs EssenDrug, at OUR home ground but their home game. Two teams put on each game - why should one by the quirk of the AFL's administrators, take the whole gate whilst the other team actually plays for nothing? Surely, after deducting the costs or running the game, the gate should be split? After all, EssenDrug, Collingwood, Melbourne, Richmond don't actually own the MCG. Even fairer, the AFL should carry the ground costs, and the participating teams split the residual revenue. In fact the whole concept of the cost of running a particular match is artificial - no club never can nor should carry the true cost of having a ground in a prime real estate position, not maintenance, nor the full cost of lighting etc. As it stands with the "power teams" getting a disproportionate number of games at the venues that allow / attract bigger crowds, it is again just a matter of the rich get richer, and thus stay at the top, and the poor remain poor and find it more difficult to rise. And all this is artificially rigged by the AFL.

Maybe it was on another thread, but I did ask have Majak's "personal issues" been resolved one way or another? He would be a fish were they not: we already have Milkshake who has a possible enforced absence hanging over his head.
-
Have Majak's "personal issues" come to a conclusion yet? If not he would be a huge risk, and we already have Milkshake with potential "forced time out" hanging over him.
-
Do you mean publicly denigrating his former club, and throwing them under the bus????Surely his biggest claim to fame is having as his name the only word that rhymes with orange.

Best and most consistent exponent of the drop kick I have seen...as others have said he frequently kicked it into what would now be the center square, and occasionally reached the center circle. I too tried to emulate him, once really connecting and putting it through our large plate glass front window :-(((( And if my memory serves me correctly he mutated to a decent ruck rover in his final years. Did he also do some time at CHF?

They are basically corrupt and lie when they talk of equalization. Nothing new.

Alice Springs is no hotter than Brisbane or Perth in winter - great climate. And it a 2.5-3 hour flight, less than Perth, not 5. But I agree that the Darwin game should always preceded the bye. Only fair to both teams involved. But fairness has never been part of AFL thinking.
-
WTF???? NO Friday nights Twice at DS vs Saints including our home game And they continue to refuse the most logical and fair bit of planning / fixturing - the Darwin game immediately before the bye....fair to both sides. Yet again vs Druggists at OUR home ground as an away game.

..in fact only the elite are, by definition.

Every good team has good, or at least reasonable players, at places 22-30. Some stagnate there, and contribute when asked, and some move upwards to best 22. Players (maybe other than the occasional tall) filling these rankings need to have more than one string to their bow so can't expect to "own" a specific position. Without these versatile back ups teams struggle as the season wears on. Some posters here seem to expect that every player on the list of 40 should be best 22. Maybe maths isn't their strong point.JKH is at least in that 22-30 range, better than several of last year's "depth players". Some seem to love to name anyone not best 22 (or even 18) as "spuds" or "duds"!
-
Give the guy a go FCS. he wouldn't be the first decent player to have an ordinary second season. But right at the moment - on his most recent form - he looks like depth.......but far far more talented depth than our current lot. And never forget that good teams have good depth. I wish him well and hope he progresses this year.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN

The "stops" I wore in primary school in Melbourne's glory days had layers of leather with nails running through them. One needed to hammer them in with the boot on a last (one of those metal feet) to flatten out the nails on the inside. I suspect that MFC players wore similar stops. That's why the bootstudder was an important person at a club. Before matches the white maggots would come in to the rooms and run their hands over the stops, as some unscrupulous clubs would deliberately leave the nails protruding from the bottom of the stop to allow their players to run them down the shins of their opponents. Back to thread title maybe Sam's grandpa was one of them?? Ah...the good old days. -
by that nasty groun injury, do you mean an injury to a nasty groin, or a nasty injury to a groin? Could be either. :-)
-
Surely the AFL wouldn't even consider something so one sided :-(((. (irony)
-
The only way he would remotely come in to our consideration would be if it has been decided to play Tommy M as a tall forward. He was recruited as such, I believe. Seems unlikely though, and he will not go through to our now high 30s pick.Looks a brute though. Not a Cale type!

Attempting to liken it to a standard Sunday night game is inappropriate: this precedes a public holiday. Tough [censored] Eddie. I can remember playing both Collingwood and EssenDrug over the years prior to your claim that it was a "tradition" for EssvColl on that day. In fact it should have been taken from EssenDrug as part of their punishment for bringing the game into serious disrepute.

Jodie moved (and competed) okay.....he just was never able to refine the basic footy skill of kicking. But much as I just loved Jordie's work ethic etc, I hope we are aiming a hell of a lot higher overall as a footballer. -

There is absolutely no way that Molan can be called a poor pick - did anyone see him play a bad game? Did he wimp out of any contests? Was his disposal poor? No, you don't know - nobody knows because unrelated impact injuries killed his career before he could pull on the jumper. It is totally unfair to compare him with, even name him with any of our 'failed high picks'." You say you don't care about injuries - well injuries happen and effect careers, whether you care or not. -

Maybe not if we are lining up for our fourth flag on the trot. Unlike his grandpa he could actually help us achieve it. I for one would just love the irony. We need to make him and other just want to stay. -

Just asking: how many frustrating years did Tom Hawkins take to become a dominant player? 4? 5? -
191cm, 90kgm. Where would he fit? Mid? Not a KPP defender or forward. Looks on his highlight clip to be a footballer who knows the game and can and will compete.

At 191 cm probably not competing for the same - forward / ruck- spot as King.Or do you mean, if he has dad's leaping ability, could fly over the 200cm King? -
