FC even in the black and white TV era one could tell the difference between North Melbourne and Colonwood on a wet muddy day! This clash jumper stuff is all about AFL marketing (as is just about everything else AFL). Christian: "Mmmmm. Mumford. Looked bad, but who are GW$$$ playing next week?" Marketing team: "Melbourne" Christian: "Mmmm. He does have a record, doesn't he, so we will have to appear to do something. Mmmm. I know, a suspended sentence. Haven't tried that lurk for a while"

Goal kicking - is it the yips or something deeper
monoccular replied to Pates's topic in Melbourne Demons
9 goals from 62 inside 50s says it all -- a mere 1 in 7 (14%) results in a goal. Raising the efficiency to even 20% would give us 12 goals, 25% would be 15 goals, close to the magic 100 points. 30% goes to a massive 18 goals. Surely the coaching / development / biomechanics / psychologists can see the bleeding obvious, but they need to admit there is a big problem before it can be addressed. What is the point in slaving away with fancy clearance drills when it all goes for tough? How about spending an entire session or two on this aspect of the game (or however many it takes) and as John Kanga Kennedy said - "do something!!" -
I thought after last time we played at Optus the powers that be would have realised that Fritsch is not a backman.
-
don - why either and not both?
-
Didn’t he look (sadly) a bit like Ben Brown? Did some good things and will hopefully acclimatize to the pace.
-
Talented players who can’t kick the easy goals are actually not all that talented.
-
Maybe he just mumbled like a little girl? (AFL can’t do a Rampe on me, can they?)
-
Delivery into 50 played into their hands especially in the last quarter and a half, but execution inside 50 and goalkicking was and continues to be just appalling. Memo to Mr Goodwin: training this week for the miss and half backs must be lowering the eyes kicking into 50, and for the forwards bloody set shots. Don’t care about anything else. It has cost us tonight’s game and others and cost us any chance of finals again.

Just waiting for that pathetic excuse for a MRO, Christian, to spin Rioli out of the slam tackle that (1) should have been a free to Smith, instead o free to WCE, AND (2) concussed a defenseless player with arms pinned.
-
If good players can’t kick straight at goal they aren’t good players. Simple fact.
-
OMG FMD Frosty.
-
Why not just bomb it long to McGovern? Great coaching and on ground thinking Game over.
-
Of course no in the back to Lockhart in front of goal Cheating badtards
-
FMD spotted that as a throw but not the WCE goal Friggin gutless intimidated cheats
-
3 consecutive goals - make that 4 We will deeply regret and pay for all those missed gettsble goals Smith slam tackle paid HTB WCE throw - goal Maggots are certainly going to get them over the line

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
monoccular replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just a thought - I understand that the Elsternwick golf course is to be closed and used for "open space". It is right next to Elsternwick Park cnr Glenhuntly Road and Nepean Highway; close to Elsternwick station and also trams. Would that be worth at least exploring? -
Probably a bit of both actually.

I think Titus O’Reilly suggested that some 3D Marvel superhero would be coming at us from the scoreboard after every goal, presumably with loud music or smoke and mirrors. It is an appalling affront, and prevents any conversation during the breaks, which used to be one of the great things about going to the footy. Still I imaging Gillon and his mates behind the glass wouldn’t be bothered by such stuff, so couldn’t care less what the peasants wanted.

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
monoccular replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
IF Colonwood did return to “their ancestral home” then would not the Olympic Park oval and facilities become vacant ...... I realize it would feel dirty for a while, but .... In the meantime the small size of our training oval at Goshs could being an issue, surely be modified to match the G with little or no disruption to trees and other amenities. -
90 percent of statisticians believe in their craft, but another 60 percent don’t. ? Maybe someone could find comparative club by club stats for contested marks inside 50 as well as total marks inside 50.

“Tassie” Bob Johnson, number 8 full back in our glory days, though iirc he rucked part time and also spent a bit of time at CHF in the early 1960s. Drop kick, from the muddy goal square to the muddier centre glue pot, time after time even with a wet muddy ball.
