DEEDAY: Dockers vs Bulldogs
You mean if a finals spot is on the line, they really try very hard to win? Do you think that would have helped us in 2017 and this year?

On field leadership
Stephen May is the best leader we have had for a long time. We donโt want instability in the formal leadership positions, but how do we get the maximum value from his leadership?

Agree with all of that except the last sentence

Luke Jackson's chances of winning the rising star? * nominated Round 10 *
Great news. And looking at the footage on the MFC site - May is walking out of the room with Jackson. I reckon May is a really good leader. Tough as nails, can play.

Josh Mahoney - The Secret Unlocked!
I really couldn't believe what I was hearing - a "ONE OFF." That is total bullSht. It's since the Prelim in 2018. Why do we let tolerate this crap. Sometime I wish we bought more microwaves... Actually, it's years and years and years. Stephen May was more honest.

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Port Adelaide
I wonder how much internal heat there is on Goodwin? What would it take for Pert to get into the football department? Richardson has made no difference to our results - maybe he doesn't have much to offer, or maybe SG doesn't listen... Brown was talking about lack of on-field leadership. Yep. A soft team when the heat's on. Same as it ever was.

POSTGAME: Rd 08 vs Brisbane
In Q2 and Q3 we were bashed up around the ball. Much better structure and system. They had a loose behind most boundary throw ins, and we didn't move to counter that. I think we have the personnel, but at that level, talent is necessary but not sufficient. I still don't think we are well coached, and if we're not careful, we will waste a very talented team. I never complain about the umpiring, but FMD.

CHANGES: Rd 08 vs Brisbane
Agree 100%. He is a hard man, and not a bad footballer. I notice that opposition teams regularly drive Fritsch into the ground. He's a lightly built bloke and is getting pulverised. I wonder if some one (cough AVB cough) could help out...

The Oscar McDonald Appreciation Thread
Great to see. I have been harsh on him - being beaten in one-on-one's by much smaller players has been my beef. Always been a very good decision maker when he gets the ball - he started this little chain of possessions with a brilliant disposal:

https://www.9now.com.au/footy-classified/2020/clip-ckce1kpwd00380hmq9dfeetd8 (no paywall, need to register) - not technical - they are good kicks - not getting the tempo right - easy to fix we play on ~50% of the time, the 4 top teams are about 20%. a good listen, and for mine, a bloody good job interview (I know there are ... ahem... mixed views ... of Lyon here on DL)

Gary Pert
Can confirm. Got the shock of my life when I picked up the phone. Rational, thoughtful.

Gary Pert
I have a positive view of Pert - he's got a tough job for a couple of reasons: - Not PJ's choice - this is the one that worries me. PJ saved this club, and not following his advice (or even including him in part of the selection process for his successor) was a big mistake and speaks to the ego of the Board - $hytty on field performance - COVID blows up the world - Has to pivot from focussing of new facilities to bringing the FD back from the brink. I think he will be OK
