  1. It's an extraordinary problem. If we're winning, it doesn't matter... but not infrequently, Goodwin hasn't made changes when games are slipping away. Just more of the same. He won us a flag, so he gets plenty (nearly infinite!) credit, but I am not sure how good a game-day coach he is.
  2. At the G Saturday night with 70000 others enjoying a great concert. And the drummer proudly wearing the jumper! (Apologies for the quality of the photo) Hope every one enjoys the break and stays safe Go Dees.

My old man was with the club (not as a player) in the early 60s (so I have been there in person for one flag!), and I had 31 on my jumper of course. After RDB went to Carlton I didn't know what number to get. Hassa Mann and Tassie Johnson were the next captains, but I had met Frank Davis at the club (played on the half back flank in the 64 premiership), and he was always willing to have chat and a kick at the end of training. So number 6 it was (he was number 40 early in his career), and thus my username. Great topic!
  4. Agree 100%. I hate to bring them up but Daicos x 2, Elliot, Pendlebury, DeGoey, Sidebottom - all are very very good users of the ball. Have a look (if you can) at Collingwood's win - brilliant field kicking.
  5. This is a very important observation. Last year, we were the best third quarter team in the competition.
  6. 100% this. It is about taking until then last game of the year to try something. and i would be surprised if it was Yze who finally got a change
  7. why did it take half a year and 2 lost finals to make a forward change? I would love to know who’s ides it was to move Petty forward. If it was not Godwin’s (say it was Yze) that would worry me. The teams we have lost to this year have also set up much better at the fall of the ball in the front half. . they typically don’t try and out mark Max/BBBJackson. They out number in the air ( we had 2 spares behind the ball for much of tonight, so there were 2 extra lions in our forward line), and play strong contested footy at the predictable spoil. We also referred to bees to the j honey pot. all in at the ball, and no one on the outside ( except Lingers, who was consistently in the right place and i thought played well)
  8. i’m sitting here at the G after that. apart from being pretty upset, I am furious that Goodein failed to do anything about the dysfunctional forward line. it’s been evident from the Queens birthday game. and it took until the game was lost for him to put someone (Petty - kicked one and gave away another) up there.

We are in danger of being a one hit wonder.
  10. spare needs to play high half forward. not close to a winger
  11. playing one man down. Trac in trouble
  12. I reckon the loss of TMac has hurt us significantly. I have not always be a fan, and if you looked at his stats in the GF last year, you wouldn't think he was much of a loss. Except... he's incredibly strong (ask Cordy), impossible to move off the ball, competes in the air every time, and has a bit of mongrel. So he gets a serious defender. And one for BBB. Which leaves Baiely F to deal with the third defender and he's usually too smart for them. Gawn is no forward (Prelim final not withstanding), and neither if Jackson. We've lost a key element of our offense, and I think it's had very significant knock-on effects.
  13. Perth has some nice golf courses, but nothing like Royal Melbourne. Loves his golf, does our Gus.
  14. He was wearing a bandage on his knee on one of the training photos. I didn't worry at the time.. Ugh - ruckman and PCLs
  15. I agree, other than I'd keep Sparrow. He kicks (?kicked?) goals and is a bull. Rivers is a defender who can break the lines, and I think we miss him.

I know this isn't the 70s (or 60s, or 80s !), and toughness is straight-lining the ball. But our stars have been the targets of off-the-ball cheap shots for much of the year. We are being belted up, and have been for weeks. Over time, it adds up. Not sure what the answer is, but the Lions will be a test. Who will them on if they get into Jacko off the ball (as has happened to Max for years)?
  17. they killed us at the fall of the ball. this isn’t on the BBB or Mitch Brown or Jackson or Max. it’s on Spargo, Kossie,ANB, Sparrow, Trac, Oliver. Even with May in, I don’t think we win this. it’s the formula that North abs StKilda used, but executed superbly

  19. This - 100% this. The big issue is blowing up what seemed to be (and what we were told was) pivotal to our success. Not that he would give a continental... but May has lost me. I still want him to play for us, because he's a gun. I hope this doesn't happen again
  20. May is reported to have said to Melksham: "If you played in the GF, we would have lost". In the "Momentum" video (a beauty - I'm sure all DLanders have seen it...) Gawn talks about a meeting before the 2021 season where Aaron vandenBerg said to the group "we have to stop slagging off at each other" . Someone would say "Jake Lever had 11 intercept marks", but then someone else would make a smart comment like "well, he doesn't play on anyone"... Not true, and also brings Lever down. So they decided to stop doing that, respect each other, cut out the [censored] banter. And won a flag. And May has brought that back. "It's just a bit of banter"... THAT's a serious problem.
  21. Infection after 3 days from hitting a bloke in the mouth and getting a penetrating injury from the teeth. Absolutely possible and serious if that's what happened.
  22. Times have certainly changed from Kennedy/Barassi coaching. And I would say for the better... This is the second upload by the club- the first one obviously cut off early.
  23. Injury report (apologies if this is a repost). TMac, Salem, Harmes, Langon all available , as is Petty (MRI -> no structural damage)
  24. Goodwin's press conference Petty "has a bit of a knee" - ugh. we don't need him out 6-8 Petracca "woke up crook" - ok, that what it looked like
