  1. A former Asst. Caoch at a top club(Read recent Premiers) told me the industry thinking is that good players make good coaches. I don't entirely agree as I think Neeld also brings something, but G is G is spot on and the future is bright if his list gets going. It won'y be the older ones - sadly. Trengove/Grimes appointment points to Neeld seeing the future this way as well and that this young group are up for it.
  2. And in the Age article on North today the first 3 columns of the 6 column article were deveoted to the MFC timing. They will be fuming at the Roos. I work with a media expert and she says nothing happens by cooincidnece regarding announcements. Remember North were foolish enough to telegraph their announcement timing days ago. I would have been cross if the MFC had not done what they did with the leg up from the Roos.. Someone down here in media is a real pro. BTW - Trengove is the youngest at the time of his first game when he officially leads them onto the field , with Jack G., in late March.
  3. A great analysis Jaded. Its the same as 'great players don't necessarily make great coaches'. leadership is somehting special - Lyon, Viney, McDonald, Stynes, Barassi - Voss etc etc
  4. Another great piece of work by the club with the Trengove/Grimes announcement timing trumping all other AFL announcements yesterday, getting great interviews, and coverage . Admittedly the age thing is a huge angle attractive to the media , but just a great positive story for the club - again so fay this year. Good job Cameron!
  5. This isn't a democray nor a popularity conexst about hurting others feelings. Neeld has made the tough and correct choices here. Rivers will be a professional and suck it up. Guess what happens if he doesn't? I love the record angle with Trengove's age.
  6. Couldn't have said it better. Same for Frawley although style of play is different.
  7. I'm sick of a capotain good or otherwise starnded in the goal square whilst the team unravels - think Green, Neitz. We need a gun mid-fielder - think Lyon, Viney, and some guts to bring on the obvious even if a bit youngish - North did with David Dench at 21. Trengove as Captain - Beamer and Frawley as V/C's. Pretty obvious I reckon. Problem? - What problem!
  8. My source who knows Neelds extremely well and has a strong AFL background believes players make coaches - most of us do - but that Neeld comes fom this angle as well. My guess is that he wants oversight over the type of players he wants when maybe Barry had more autonomy previously. Either way, If Neeld is happy, I'm happy. And best wishes to Barry
  9. This is the sleeper of the whole GWS issue and i can't understanmd how it doesn't get coverage. Irrelevanacy in NSW, for the sake of TV ratings and extra matches in Victoria. On TV NRL out-rated AFL nationally in 2011 by the key measures. This adventure will ultimately suck the AFL dry IMO. That's waht Karma is - sadly thought for the greater game.

I got it directly from the highest echelon at the Cats that Neeld is perfect for us - right culture, team developement and hard as nails , not accepting second best from anyone and we're lucky to have him.
  11. I agree, but it beggars belief that the AFL even considers this to be a good strategic move . Stand by for absolute years of embarrassment - low crowds, irrelevancy in the Sydney market and media, just a general 'who cares factor' What was Andrew thinking (or smoking)
  12. I hadn't heard of this, but IF it is true, IMO the AFL MUST sack Sheedy now. This attitude stinks. If it doesn't happen, then the AFL simply has no buisness ethics on this sort of governance issue - again in my opinion.
  13. They have a pharmacist for a coach. Strange he didn't know about Cousins habit?
  14. I really gald someone at last brought up this fact - Westpac took at huge write down, whihc as a shareholder in my view was nothing short of scandalous, and good luck to Costa and Co. for pulling off the deal - somehow. But let's not laud the cats for clawing their way out of thier debt prrobelms - they simply took the soft option like many do. The Dees did it the honorable way and Denahm would't have a clue. he's just a News Ltd. hack Schwab seriously researched the identity issue, incluidng a in-depth study of Barcelona FC for example, and I like the way he's gone about it. I don't need it but some may and that's OK.

    Neil Craig

This is the first post Iv'e seen on the attractiveness now of the Club. Scully is doomed to languish in the west of Sydney, but what would new draftees now think if Prendergast gets them to us at trade/draft time.

    Neil Craig

Craig is an elite sports scientist - check his history - who took the crows to minor premiers one year and was revolutionary in his trainging methods - just think how hard that is to achieve. His humbling interview on SEN yesterday had 'class act' stamped all over it. Huge get for us
  17. Gary and Co. have now legitimised us as a 'smart' club with the Craig appointment and several others, bringing the skills and knowledge to help the team now grow its performanace. Gary , Don and Cameron can't do much more now , so Garyremaining as Football Director would be fine end result to oversee and support the team the Board has built. Its up to them now - and us to support through thick and thin - and there will be some thin times in 2012.
  18. Just to be mischevious, did you know that Jack Watts went to school with Chris Dawes at Brighton Grammar. We can always hope!

    Neil Craig

The point is Craig's forte and original claim to fame was as an elite sports scientist and probably the best credentialled in the AFL in this field. We can do with this at the club IMO. Remember Craig took the crows to a top of the ladder finish in one year. Its not a coaching or advsory role we need him for.
  20. But thi sis true in life anyway. Suuccessful applicants for jobs will be able to demonstarte a track record of achievement. How would an Asst coach at the Tigers do that over the past 5 years? for example.
  21. The commentary so far by both Neeld and Mc Cartney show two operatotrs with a deep understanding of coaching and leadership. It doesn't necessarily follow that a former ex-chanp has the credentials. In fact, the ability to run quickly and mark a ball is no pointer to any coaching ability. We may be seeing a sesmic shift in coaching diretcions with 'professional coaches' as opposed to great footballers taking on what up to now was seen as a natural progress. I reckon the opposite is true. This is how it works in the U.S.
  22. Culture is a direct product of leadership. i.e the Presidnent and coach, maybe the Football Director Let's see - how are we doing on that??? Where does Shaw think it comes from - the bootstudder Spare me these pontifications from these sorts of people
  23. The 2 most intersetcing appontments - given Neeld was the Pies defensive and mid field coach over the past few years. He would have very clear ideas on what he wanyts here and maybe some left field appointments will result.
  24. This line IMO summed Neeld up beautifully in the interview and the understated way he said as a fact. You can run but you can't hide and talk is cheap is my take. Someone else said here that many will flourish now under this attitude. End of a fantatsitc few days, with the best coverage we could hope for across the weekend. Roll on Footy Classified - and I'll bet he's on the footy show this week - maybe?
