  1. Were you there or from the limited TV screen? Did you know what the conditions were really like? Did you know what the game plan was? Did you know the instructions from the coaching panel to each player? Your effort is commendable as a knee jerk TV reaction, but meaningless in the modern game.
  2. We are all struggling with the thought of losing Tom Scully. To keep him we know it will throw the natural compensation for players across the whole team out of balance. Many believe the AFL should not have let this unrealistic challenge to have been placed upon Tom, and some can understand the wisdom of him leaving for the money. I don't think we should jeopardise the team culture by trying to hold him if he wants to go. The balance between individual stars and team culture is a delicate one and should be magaged as well as any part of building a new team. The compensation looks okay and may even bring some unexpected surprises. Its flexible use means that we may be able to trade for specific needs as our team settles toward our best 22. The money we gain by not over paying Tom can be better used keeping other young players at the club, eg Gawn.. If Tom stays at a reasonable price great. If he goes, all is not lost.
  3. Are you looking in a mirror.
  4. He's a recovered gambler. That's even better than someone who has never gambled
  5. I agree he was potentially the most significant player at demonland since the 50 and 60's. As good as Robbie Flower was, the Ox was CHF and brilliant goal scorer. I believe would have at least equalled Carey
  6. This forum far to easily ridicules people who disagree with it. Scully has chosen to keep the fire going. He has either not made up his mind. Which is legitmate. But he could put it all to bed by signing. He has chosen to wait until the end of the year. What does he expect but people to speculate and come up with opinions on both sides.
  7. Your observations are poor. He is one of our better long kicks. Short kicking is his suspect point. His hands are excellent. Has taken numerous contested (not necessarily pack) marks this year. Has a particularly light frame, which needs time. I guess you are another supporter who watches from home on the TV. Frankly your inability to judge is obvious and does nothing for the morale of the club.
  8. Grimes, Trengove, Watts. Don't rush it. A year or so ago the Ox and Leach were talking of a Jones over McLean for captain. Life changes to quickly to rush a young player in to soon. Let the best captainemerge in time.
  9. I suggest counselling. For you not Cale
  10. He's playing with the club and supporters. Great if he stays, bad luck if he goes. It's been done before. Nathan Buckley put himself above the club and draft process and then the Lions went on to win 3 flags. He'll be great value but the club will be great with or without him. PS. As he loves the tigers the rumour I've heard is that the tigers are circling. He should play well this weekend to impress them.
  11. My understanding is that when they are list on the ground they usually play. The problem is that all of our players are good enough to play. I wish they would getrid of the sub rule
  12. We delisted Simon Buckley so we could pick up Joel McDonald on the Pre-season draft. It doesn't give me confidence in those at the top to make smart decisions when under pressure
  13. Any game day complaints the MCC direct you to the AFL.
  14. IMO you have the'press' wrong. It's really about pushing your backs up to the midfield and forward line. My understanding of the PRESS is when the ball is deep in a the attacking teams (A) forward line the opposing defending team (B) FLOODS their back line to defend. The attacking team (A) brings their backs up to the centre to prevent the defending team (B) from getting the ball out of defense. Because it (team B) )is defensively FLOODING, if by chance it does break through it has no forwards (they have all bveen flooding on the backline. The attacking team (A) maintains this defensive PRESS on their forward line waiting for a simple turn over within scoring distance. In summary, the PRESS and the FLOOD are like two bulls locking horns on the pressing teams forward line.
  15. I value anyone who has played and am interested in what they say. Others are just noise. I cann't believe how much I enjoy listening to Dermie, Lloydy,Leigh, Shawie, Roosie, Harf etc. Bartlett is too much of an AFL and rules committee man to enjoy and Walls is just too serious, but the greatest is THE OX FOLLOWED BY GARY. Other non players are just noise. Take themselves too seriously and trying to fulfil their own unsuccessful careers.
  16. Why take them seriously. The pies love it when the world hates them. Good teams are often hated. Get used to it. It lays ahead of us. Bring on the oposition. Let others hate us, we love the red and blue
  17. It's irrelevant. We play a mobile forward structure. He gets his turn, but to think Sylvia would play the whole game there just dosen't work any more. The best key forwards tend to go both high up the ground and deep into the square. Its about match ups and throughing the other team off balance.
  18. Thank goodness
  19. I believe the decision on Bailey can be made now. Four years tells those closest to the club, the board members all they need to know about the coach. Bailey is Bailey and a few more wins or losses will not be make any difference to his ability. Games one or lost is not grounds for a sound judgement. There are many who think he should be given every last game to prove he is the right man for the job. My compromise suggestion is that after round 17 we will have played every team, save for Geelong (16 is the bye, 17 is Port, 18 is Hawks and 19 Gee at skilled stadium). Treat this as one win - Port - and one loss - Geelong ). Make the bye weekend (round 16) decision week. Either reappoint him then and there or give it to a caretaker coach. By the way, tell Tom Sculldugery that if he doesn't tell the club he is staying he will be playing at Casey.
  20. Essentially 33 votes for and 112 unhappy.
  21. Both might be boring but bpoth absolutely crucial
  22. I Have just listened and I valued deans presentation. A few pointed comments but they are just media/politics, eg. Dean was well spoken when M R asked about an article he wrote on Dean earlier in the year which HS entitled 'Dead Coach walking'. Dean told him his article - as many media articles are- was worth reading but his heading was offensive, unintelligent and uncreative. To the acknowledgement of David's opinion re Tom Scully, Dean just reiterated his own - exactly what we have all heard from him before. What is always interesting is to hear Dean - or any of our other coaches - speak directly on the on field analysis, coaching goals etc. He has his clear explanations and knows what he is trying to do, it sounds clear, but that doesn't mean they indicate he is heading in the right direction. In fact he stated the game hasn't really changed in the past five years and quoted some stats on contested possession etc. That concerns me and I would love to push him to explain what he really meant, because I think many would say it has. Without knowing exactly what he meant I don't want to draw wrong conclusions from his statement. However, I have a friend with contact inside the club who states one side of Dean which is frustrating is that Dean is stubborn. for eg. his refusal/slowness to try something other than his original opinion. I mention this because I get frustrated with his refusal to try different things on Game day when things are not working. I felt good after the interview, and perhaps a warmth toward him but that does not mean I think it is right to extend his contract. My opinion is that we don't need to wait until the end of the year. We have four years of observation and we won't see anything significantly different between now and the end of the year which will alter ones opinion. Dean is what Dean is. What you see is what you get. People with have different opinions. In fact I think by sitting on his win loss record over the next 8 weeks is a poor basis for making a desision. It's got to be deeper than that. The Board will be making up their mind now as they should be doing, nothing is black and white, its a judgement call, there will be discussion and perhaps a show of hands and the dice will fall one way or the other. Some will say the decision is right others wrong. The rest of us will have to live with it.
  23. I see in another two years we will be adding Fitzpatrick, T MacDonald to this foursome to up the anti evenfurther
  24. Because I see this as decision time based on 4 years of Dean my decision is not based on weekly (should it be weakly) results. I believe the basic game plan is mission. Dean is not able to get the results or general improvement I believe is possible. If players aren't learning it is because he is not communicating effectively enough with this group. Unfortunately you can not replace the whole team, so Bailey most go as not being quite good enough for what a premiership team needs
  25. From your business career, someone comes in and says we have got to make a decision. What do you do, say ' give me a year or two I'm not sure. The boss barks back, 'What do you mean, you've had four years to observe' I need an answer now. It is now time for our board to make a decision. Do we keep him for three more years or look for someone someone else. Tell the board what you would do.
