  1. Next year we must start with a clearer solution for the forward line. Van Rooyen is still a few years away and we cannot place all our hope in him yet. Weid is loved but unlikely to solve our search. Tom and Ben Brown are aging and subject to injury. Our champion midfielders have all signed long term contracts. A small forward line is far to easily outmarked with merely one tall. So who is available to be traded in. No champion is on the horizon. But we need some marking forward to add to the potential we have. Jessie is worth considering. GWS are in transition with a new coach. They are not expecting immediate top four but the rebuilding will be their approach. A high pick may be highly valuable for them. I say Jessie because he would add to our forward line. We missed our chance with Peter Write last year who now has 49 goals this year. Who else is there who is mid twenties? If not Jessie then a Jessie like player
  2. In Harmes out ANB Move Hunt to forward flank or wing. Combine his defensive play with his goal kicking power. He has kicked goals in the past when he has played forward.
  3. I'd have Harmesy ahead of ANB any day.
  4. Through the great 50's and 60's era we never had a truly great key forward, but a good spread of goal kickers. We never won a brownlow or actually polled great votes because we had too many good players that robbed each other such as Barassi or Dixon. etc. Team trumps stars. Although now we do have the stars now.
  5. At first sight it is in that we don't have the star power marking forward. However we are scoring 90 plus on most wins. The lack of a star forward means that their is not one person the opposition has to focus upon to cut our scoring down. Our goals are spread across anything up to 10 players. We are a system orientated team. Yes if someone emerges who can be a major weapon, we will take him, but if not we shouldn't despair
  6. I'm for Tomlinson and trust his running provides an extra midfielder.
  7. Bowey was definitely quieter. Picked up a bit later in game when it was over. I'd bring back Rivers. ANB remains overrated. Watch his poor skill display of thrid quarter
  8. Throughout the year we have spoken of this mantra. Despite our 10 zip success eventually we were turned upside down with a 3 zip loss. We and everyone else tried to diagnose the reason. I put it down to this mantra. Speaking of ourselves as the hunted our attitude slowly dissipated. You cannot win as the hunted. You cannot maintain the highest level of performance thinking others are out to get you, because you run and hide. You must never give up the mantle of being the hunters, but under another name. We are the DOMINATORS. That's what we did to the Lions. For our three-peat-year of 23 we will lift again to be the TERMINATORS. The four-peat year will be the DEMONATORS and dispel the curse of '58
  9. Finally our 2022 season will start. We have been flying on myth of 2021 (great final season which did not accurately represent the home and away season). Every season has to find its new motivation. You've got to both earn it and believe in it. We've had to much of the belief, before we have had to dig deep. There may be a few more surprises around the corner (Swans, Lions, Queens Birthday Pies) What are we capable of when injuries emerge. The month of June will be our mid season pre - finals test. Its the month we needed to have
  10. Nothing less than two under 10 draft picks. No fool would go to eagles for several years of pain. Dockers aren't going to give up anything. He's ours for a minimum of 5 years.
  11. Great to see his fan base growing. His ability has been growing through the year on the back of his brilliant Kicking. Long bombs to goal, mention of his considered and composed kick to Ben Brown in last qtr of GF, but don't overlook his superb short pass to Luke J in last - exquisite. All this wasn't just in the final series. Last game of the year against Geelong had even more to it. Revisit and watch his competative marking.this guy has the package. Yes a future leader alongside the mature Rivers. A Petracca model and for we old buggers, a Barassi in time.
  12. Melk is on the edge so is Weid. But they are demons. Melk has given his all for several years. Remember the finals in 2018. He gave us a lot of pleasure. I feel for him that he and Jonesy and Jetta will probably miss the finals after all they have given for us to get us here. If you cannot respect them, then stop writing
  13. Marking is a talent. It's in the hands. The Weid has modest talent and is unlikely to improve to any significant level. Naughton showed how much better he is. If he gets the hands on it, it sticks even under pressure. Those who talk about grabbing the second grab, know little about being a good mark. Good marks don't needed a second grab. There are a range of players of all sizes in our team who are great competative marks, May Lever Salem, Rivers, possibly Petty, Brayshaw, Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Fritzsche, Gawn Tom Mac. They will mark in a competative situation, against comparatively similar size. I would not trust the following to consistently win a marking competition, Hibberd, Hunt, Spargo, Neil Bullen. Some players are ok Langdon, Harmes. Not sure about Jordon yet. Talented marks display it from early days eg Rivers. Weid has been in the system some 7 years and he still is little more than modest. Yes experience and confidence will help, but he'll never be great. It's a talent some have and some don't (Unfortunately Jack Watts did't have it) just like kicking for goal. Jack Watts did have the kicking talent, Max Gawn doesn't but Tom Mac does. The Weid has a beautiful kicking style, but beyond 30 metres he is merely a 50 50 chance. He's got an awful lot of work to do to meet our hopes.
  14. Anybody know the actual state of Petty's injury/fitness state and readiness of selection. I'm a believer, preferably back but sometimes forward if we need. Fit and I'd pick him this week
  15. Give me a country boy any day. Preferably a farmer. Go Tom, but what happened to Oscar. Did you board him in a city private school where he played Golf all day. He had to learn something there
  16. Yes a touch of the 'Flash,' acceleration, agility, kicking. Very positive
  17. I can't understand SEN signing up Cornes for even one year. Gossage, Cornes, its all part of the expansion plan. Not merit
  18. I'm certainly glad you are not in charge of the football department. You have no idea how to build a list
  19. Not venturing into the game of criticising Oscar (I think he had good skills but just lacked the necessary 'frostie' pace) but if I was him and played golf off the 1 or 2 he is on, I know what I would be doing on the weekend. You can play for life at a nice leissurely pace.
  20. Great golfer, in fact the best. Actually has good skills, kicking and marking but lack of speed and strength means he doesn't succeed on the backline. He was better last year when the team success kept it in our half most of the time and his skills worked on the 'switch' tactic when it came out of our half. As Tom struggles this year on forward line I don't know why they didn't swap them around. Tom on Jenkins and maybe Oscar might have snagged a mark or two and a couple of goals. Things can happen unexpectedly. Not withstanding, I agree his numbers are numbered baring injuries.
  21. Has played three games this year (including practice match against pies) We have won them all
  22. Campbell Brown believes he will be a 10 yr player. That's great. Jetta is not lightning fast. I was a very very slow believer but eventually came round because his other skills found their spot
  23. At 187. Not his job. But he can mark, kick long and pass all accurately
  24. can mark which too many of our players can't do. Both goals on highlight reel were from 50 plus from goal. The set shot goal ball carried close to 60 metres. OUtside 50 and easily 5 metres past goal
