A good laugh. In these challenging days we need to have a laugh

So the taggers win. The coach is there to get one step ahead of the opposition. Are you saying he cann't do that. I must admit I don't think that is one of Baliey's strengths. But to give up your champion because a few have had success on him is to throw in the white towell. Fancy comparing McKenzie to a Davey type. Totally different style players. McKenzie is competing with Maloney and Jones

If that's your concern I suggest you do a proper analysis of the demon backline disposal skills. Bartram, Garland Rivers? I suggest you add that extra column and go alphabetically with Bartram at the top. Call it efficient disposal. It will be a lot easier to count than clangers. He runs well, great courage, little football mind, close in handball is about his best skill, the rest are hardly worth it. Thinking to slow, to indecisive, to inaccurate.

Member +Non Member sitting together.
Harrisonrules replied to Dee Since 73's topic in Melbourne Demons
When you say you are a country member do you mean a MCC member or Football club member. You can get a visitors ticket for the MCC members and sit together on tier one or four. If a football member, I don't know the rules there . reply to this and a few of us may be able to help you. Sounds risky but put an email or phone number on here and I'll offer some more specific options. -
Can you believe nineteen scoring shots in one quater. The hawks inaccuracy let us off lightly, but not in the eyes of all other teams. They will look at that and say, ' what a soft underbelly those demons have, so easily broken. It is not good enough to just win against the Lions. We have got to win big. 20 poiints will leave me leaving the ground pretty flat, forty points will any one notice? 60 would begin to repair some of last weeks damage. Were do we stand in relation to the other clubs vying for the spoon. Are we superior? Can we stand tall amongst the middle of the ladder? Maybe snatch a win or two against the top teams. Every week counts. A new statement is sounded out after each game, and we have a lot to catch up on last weeks debacle. The rebuild starts this week... a big win is a must

This thread is here exactly because of these results, and the many others over the last four years. Four wins and a draw. We played Carlton for the Kruzer Cup and tell me where they are now. One club official has joked about us at least not being like Richmond. We were supposed to be a long way ahead of them, but maybe they have already closed the gap. There is something fundamentally lacking in our consistency. Apart from poor goal kicking, the hawks should have won by over a hundred points. This game was diabolically bad. If you don't want to ask questions don't expect a cup.

I am not prepared to put my head in the sand. I am not prepared to trust in unexamined dreaming. Clubs need vision and vision needs hard scrutiny. The press have started. We must demand the highest from players, officials and coaches

Where was Dean in that fateful third quarter? Christine Nixon was criticised from pillar to post for not being in the right place at the right time when Victoria burnt. Even if she had been at the helm she couldn't have stopped the fire but you have got to make the right decisions. Dean had been warned in the last 5 to 10 minutes of the second quarter the game was changing, but he vcontinued to stay on the bench with the boys. The Hawks burnt the MCG in the third quarter and we needed a different type of coaching than a slap on the bum for rotating players. We needed someone desperate to come to grips with what was unfolding and try to make a difference. I am yet to see any strategic skill in Deans coaching. It concerns me because in recent years each premiership coach has been able to put his own stamp on the style of team play. It's good for any leader to walk the trenches with the boys but with limits. You've got to be able to outfox the opposition from command. And Dean did not stand tall when he was required to. It was a bad decision. But maybe more, this development coach may just not have that strategic skill premiership teams need.....Oh how we long for the Old Red Fox

Know the facts before you disparage someone else

As unpopular as it is to question the coaching. Brian Royal has never coached a backline, Josh Mahony had modest experience to build upon, Mark Williams VFL?. Dean Bailey, prefers personal encouragement on the bench than being focused on the unfolding strategy of 100 minutes of football. They may all be good coaches but I can't see the evidence that alays the questions I have.

For too long we have been putting up with, lack of intensity, we didn't play to our structures,as reasons for very poor showing. There's got to be more indepth explanations that ring true with us. Poor excuses keep the problems hidden and not addressed. To move forward we need better assessment of our performance if we are going to rectify such absolute thrashings.

I'm happy with Tappy or bull. However for another option. Many will recall his selection when Luke Ball was in the air and people were highly interested to see where he would go.., Pick 18 came, Luke...Pause...(would it be Ball to the demons) no ..... Tapscott. So what about 'BALLS'... .. He certainly replicates the original 'Balls' Grinter but even more so. All the stars line up on this one.

Mathew Bate - Lateral Thinking Needed
Harrisonrules replied to Cranky Franky's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd give him a go on the wing. Learn to get free to receive, turn in toward the centre and boom the ball forward. High contested marking is not quite the issue on the wing ( his weekness ). Some times he could drift forward to the 50 mtre line for a mark and a 95% chance of a goal would follow. -
Mathew Bate - Lateral Thinking Needed
Harrisonrules replied to Cranky Franky's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree but its not just raising the arms, the crux of the problem is his inability to jump. He's not a competative marik. A tall who plays small -
I think your assessment is good. The really pertinent fact you mention is the two demon games. A real litmus test for our future. Even if we like to think of ourselves as a 60 - 40 favourite up there they are a possibility. We'd find enough excuses to calm our pain. Our game down here is usually one we would pencil in - really a must win game. However, at round 23 all young players are tired and it will reflect the type of year both have had. It will be a sad end to the year if we lose that one and may I be so bold to suggest considerable change in the Coaching panel.
-
Totally agree. In the thread on our best team. I listed him as our smokey by round 10. While he can play elsewhere, I'm hoping he will become 3rd tall next to Frawley, and Garland. with apologies to Rivers Warnock and Macd

Superstars so often make their mark in even their first or second year before hitting their straps by 24. Dream but be realistic
-
I have several friends who are all older than even your dad.Don't be rash about ONE more year. Be passionate, but leave some gas in the tank. You might change your opinion at the end of the year
-
I'd like you to think a little deeper. You say no one suggests.....Why are we being told these relatively inconsequencial facts year after year. You seem to have misunderstood what I said. I was suggesting forget talk of premierships. Your last line said what I had said.

Before reading this comment I just wrote of a similar sentiment I detect about hearing the same old things on Harringtons's window comment. It's tiresome and wearing thin
