Alexis Georgiou can accept reprimand
John Crow Batty replied to daisycutter's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good to see our our list of over stuffed peacocks slowly fading away. Honest battlers make me feel less frustrated and more confident and patient for future success. -
Nic Nat criticisms starting to build
John Crow Batty replied to darkhorse72's topic in Melbourne Demons
Lucas says more or less the same I said about NikNat a few weeks ago. Maybe something in the injury angle but thats no excuse for his lack of football brains. -
I am all for players like KH and Salem playing on their insticts if they get a sniff of goals. As long as they contribute regular 1% ers and score more goals than they miss then thats fine with me. That KH/Dawes example is a time when instinct delivered under extreme pressure. If he dished out to Dawes, the pressure would have moved quickly back on Dawes and he was no certainty to score or even get a kick away. Given our inability to score a decent amount of goals, guys that can make something out of nothing are a blessing. No one expects Cyril Rioli to dish out the ball wnen he sniffs a goal.

I would say Neeld was more victim than villain. List management specialists Schwab and Connolly deserve a worthy mention.

Well we ain't no just add boiling water to instant noodle job. Thats our lot for now. No alternatives brother!

Alexis Georgiou can accept reprimand
John Crow Batty replied to daisycutter's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hard to prove that Franklin was staging because he did get a whack. Georgiou can look at it as a medal to pin on his chest and have a great conversation piece for the rest of his life. Many a laugh for the retelling of how Buddy fell like a sack of spuds. -
I think privately Roos will be happy with all the media and fan heat on Watts. Gives him the opportunity to play with a straight bat whilst the demons play out in Watts head.
-
When Garland comes back Pederson may be released to play Watt's role whilst he takes a break at Casey.
-
Why all the angst? Obviously many have not seen or forgotten the umpiring standards(bias) of WC games when they play at home.
-
Watts and Howe are letting the club and their teamates down bigtime. The only reason they are still getting a game is for team balance and structure only. There are not much of their type and roles around to replace them at the moment. The positive is that once their kind of attitude was infectious and spread throughout the team. Now most of their teamates have moved forward. These guys stand out like goat glands for all the wrong reasons, the game is moving past them.

Good, Salem should be the sub. The onus is on him when he does get his run to prove everyone wrong. Good first up lesson to earn his spot. Not like the diva like debuts of Scully and Trengove etc.

I hope we don't see last weeks first half trash. Will be interesting how fired up the players are since this is the first game Roos is coaching against his old club.

Worst 1st rnd draft pick in history...clue: not Melbourne
John Crow Batty replied to pitchfork's topic in Melbourne Demons
Going through the last 13 drafts there has been quite a few complete duds in the first round and also top ten of every draft. Overly subjective discussion who was worse than who with many variable reasons why they failed. Many were never cursed by the hype of a Number 1 or 2 pick and quietly faded away. IMO the biggest dud of them all though not through draft was Brian Peake who came to Geelong. Arrived at Kardinia Park like royalty by helicopter and greeted by thousands of cheering fans. Made front page in the newspapers and leading televised news. Made captain after not too many games. At best was a very ordinary sluggish midfileder who never ever remotely lived up to his State of origin heroics. -
Billboard top 10 hits 1964. 1. I want to hold your hand. Beatles 2. She loves you. Beatles 3. Hello dolly. Louis Armstrong 4. Oh pretty woman. Roy Orbison 5. I get around. Beach Boys 6. Everybody loves somebody. Dean Martin 7. My guy. Mary Wells 8. We'll sing in the sunshine. Gale Garnett 9. Last kiss. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers. 10. Where did our love go. The Supremes. Only the last three hits have had any relevance to us since then.

Worst 1st rnd draft pick in history...clue: not Melbourne
John Crow Batty replied to pitchfork's topic in Melbourne Demons
And he perhaps is still currently the highest payed player in AFL history. So glad he was poached. There must be at least a dozen 2nd year midfielders in the game that are far better than him at the moment on base wages. -
With Good Friday coming into play there will now be four public holiday blockbuster games in the first half of the season. This proposal will ensure every club gets their fair share of these prime dates. Wil be a cup style competion for the 10 Victorion clubs but with the premiership points as well. Played out over four dates with a final on Queens Birthday in chronological order. One qualifying game each will be played on Good Friday and Easter Monday. The winners will qualify for ANZAC day the following season. The winner of ANZAC day gets to play on Queens Birthday the following season against the Cup holder who is the winner of the previous QB game. Teams will qualify for the GF and EM games from a queue system so every team gets a chance to reach the QB game over a 3 season period. All losers will be relegated back to the queue to await their next turn. Under this system 8 clubs will play one blockbuster each a season with two clubs in the queue for the following season. To ensure a smooth transition, it wil start with the two Easter qualifying games with ANZAC and QB remaining the same until the first 3 season rotation is complete and self replicating. Any opinions?

How Buddy warms up to play the Demons
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
We can be thankful there is now one less menace on Victorian roads. -
At this stage he has not gone down with a mystery injury to squint my eyes so I am more concerned how he performs for the rest of the season. He is still a Demon. If he goes, too bad. But I hope he gives us some joy for the rest of the season.
-
Scully had one of those mystery can't be proven injuries but associated with strong rumours. No strong rumours here but something does not add up.
-
I tend to agree, I am in favour of a more equitable draw for all clubs rather than artificial blockbusters featuring a select few clubs year after year. As for the blockbuster dates, I prefer that they become challenge games where the winner gets to host the blockbuster again the following season. The loser goes back into the queue to make way for next club in line to challenge.

Let bygones be bygones. Good to see him back as a supporter. Being a media entity he is always going to have something to say about us by default of his job.
-
I thought we played an excellent second half. Saw many positives. Still a lot of work to get 4 quarter consistency. Watts is looking more and more like Cale Morton. Not a forward or defender. Only hope for him is as a running outside player. We need Garland back to solidify the defence. Midfield grunt is still lacking.

KH needs to be subbed. Hasn't got a clue how to contest, pressure or chase. Back to the magoos for more education

Jack Trengove out for year with navicular fracture
John Crow Batty replied to Arrow's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not just our problem but the entire games problem. We are just having a rash of them at the moment. In the old days, boots were made more for support and protection rather than performance. Now days they are made to allow unrestricted speed and agility. This takes priority and passes the buck to medical technology to deal with the resulting injuries. -
Brett Kirk - Roos' successor?
John Crow Batty replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hasn't stopped Clarkson infecting the Hawks with remnants of our culture.
