The Mighty Demons, not the "Dees"
John Crow Batty replied to Fitz Fitzpatrick's topic in Melbourne Demons
I guess it may have something to do with toning down the sinister conotations of demons and devils. There are many who are uncomfortable with having a devil as a club mascot. Parents, religious, prudish, and bean counting marketing types may find it uncomfortable to follow a club with the devil mascots. The marketing types have more to answer for. They want to appeal to all the demographics hence we get left with banality. There are many sporting clubs around the world that use the devil as a mascot including Manchester United, ADC and quite a few national soccer teams. Usually portrayed as the Red Devil. I also bemoan that our mascot and nick name has been toned down to make it more palatable to sensetive types. I prefer if we whole heartedly embrace the sinister aggressive connotation of the red devil. The wimpy innofensive way our Mascot is portrayed and also the use of the Dees as nickname is a nor here nor there cop out leaving a lot of ambiguity and uncertainty to the self image we want to portray. -

I used to be in awe of Dustin Fletchers freakish age defying longevity in the game. Now I wonder if has been drinking the same waters as Hird all along. -
THE END OF DEMONLAND (Coming Soon?)

For consumers Paypal is great. I have used it for over 10 years. In that time I have had several disputes with traders/ sellers and all have been resolved in my favour including a sum in excess of $2000 for an overseas transaction. If you have a legitimate greivance they are on your side. Got my money back every time. I swear by them. -
The Jack Viney bump that never was!
John Crow Batty replied to Matt Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Aside from the Viney incident we did earn a lot of respect from our gutsy win in Adelaide. If we played like we had for the past few years it would have been the same old same. Viney's effort was a dramatic snapshot to how we played. He was misunderstood by pedantic lawmakers but not by football aficionados. -

It was quite touching that for a change the majority of the football community and media were behind us. -
I like to see some success before the successor. Lets hope so.

THE END OF DEMONLAND (Coming Soon?)

I prefer to stay just a member. Been banned a few times and I'd hate to become a "defrocked" life member. I'll just make regular donations. -
The only antidote to this virulent pest is winning. There will no doubt be a surge of his crap whilst we continue to improve then he will have to shut up when the time comes he has to eat his own excrement.

Well AD is still in charge and welcome comments. All but said the decision was not right. One last string for him to pull? -

I would be happy to see an appeal but only if there is a good chance of JV getting off. I am not in favour of just going by the principle of the matter. I am more concerned how this will affect our future progress. Will be a needless distraction and a waste of time and energy for the club if the chances of a positive outcome is remote. -

I am angry, but its getting to midweek. The only outrage left by Friday will be from us. I hope all this anger and injustice can be channelled to us getting the 4 points this weekend coming and the next, next and so on. -

They cant be too hasty. The AFL wont put on a show like this without final dramatic effects. They have media obligations. -

Two most famous of Jackie Gleason's signature lines were " POW! RIGHT ON THE KISSER" and " I'M GONNA SEND YA RIGHT OVER THE MOOOOOOOON" -
WTF! He's still not up on our banner.

He breaks ribs with his smothers.

Maybe its a cousin of his. All Greek hero's have fanboy cousins.

Georgie Georgie puddin pie, kissed the Bud and made him cry.

I guess the stress got to Sloane too. Funny as now that we are applying hardness and pressure consistently, we are seeing the opposition wilt at critical moments.

Will have to prove that cause of injury was by contact from Viney and not secondary head clash with Georgiou. So going by the vision there is doubt, enough to throw the charges out IMO. Be also interesting what the Crow medical report says. -
Football is littered with thousands of possible match turning lucky or unlucky moments. That was a common one. To name a few more costly lucky or unlucky moments in footy. Pettards dropped mark. Simon Eishold's miss from 1 metre. Lenny Hayes kick takes 120 degree ball bounce also 1 metre from goal. Wayne Harmes applying the cloak of invisibility to the boundary line. Stynes infringing on the mark. The only relevance is that we got the four points.
