Agree... the funny thing was that for the entire first series, Baldrick was the "brains" and Blackadder the dolt. Oh, and I still have nightmares whenever I think about the "Blackadder's Christmas Carol" special, with Baldrick in a leather "posing pouch"...uuurrrrgggghhhh!! And speaking of British comedy on TV, I have to say I love the League of Gentlemen series... have all of them on DVD as well as their Apocalypse movie which is also a hoot (if you haven't seen this show, chase it up as it's definitely worth a look).... another series worth checking out is Psychoville; the Brits really do have a way with humour that, for the most part, the Americans simply can't do... then again, they are also responsible for some of the worst TV comedies as well.

Jones finished with 6 I think, plus Davey got a couple, Viney a couple and Terlich 1 or 2 (?) Meanwhile, with all the fuss on here about Moloney's stand-out performances at the Lions, I believe he got 2 votes (then again I might have missed others?) ... not to mention that the other wunderind Wines also got 2 votes (unless I missed some there as well) - same as his mate Viney.

Paul Roos has the runs on the board... just where are Voss, Buckley and Hird now?
-
Agree... one thing people seem to overlook is the fact that Roos having been in the media for some time now, gets probably more insight into the entire footballing fraternity than any of us would ever get. So, not only is he a proven coach with unquestionable qualifications, he has been observing and analysing the inner workings of all clubs over a number of years... I think he has earned the benefit of the doubt on such decisions.

Ok Choke, being true to my word, here is a list of fairly obscure things (well, obviously not obscure to everyone) that I would recommend - I won't go into descriptions, analysis etc - you can find all of that on IMDB no doubt... so choke on this ;-) Music related documentaries plus a couple of others: The Filth and the Fury (Sex Pistols doco) The Future is Unwritten (Joe Strummer of the Clash doco) Searching for the wrong Eyed Jesus Deep Blues - a musical pilgrimage to the crossroads The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack Ghengis Blues Crumb Lost in La Mancha Movies: The Harder They Come Robinson Crusoe on Mars Wise Blood Happiness of the Katakuris Survive Style 5+ Shark Skin Man, Peach Hip Girl Branded to Kill Tokyo Drifter Shock Corridor If, O Lucky Man and Britannia Hospital (trilogy) Juliet of the Spirits High and Low Throne of Blood Raise the Red Lantern Not One Less The Road Home just a few to get on with... can add more if you like... many more.

I understand what you are saying of course, and agree... however, using Hogan's face in some marketing material in an effort to attract members, is hardly heaping pressure on him. Besides, I have seen him at training when I have had the opportunity to be in Melbourne and from what I saw, the kid has a definite aura of confidence about him... I hardly think he is going to be feeling too much pressure at all.

I honestly cannot understand why there is so much feeling about a players' number... it is just a number and should have no significance at all. As far as I'm concerned, they can put all the available numbers in one hat and all of the new players names in another and then allocate them from a blind draw. As for Hogan being used on a membership flyer, that makes perfect sense... he is likely to be a big part of this club's future and to attract members you need to have something for prospective members to be inspired by. It's patently obvious that there is little to be inspired by from past seasons, and so the likes of Roos and Hogan are the big attractions. Hogan has shown both in his Casey form and in his brief NAB Cup appearance, that he IS worth getting excited about and just maybe he will rise above all of the hype.

And to think there were those on these forums who not so long ago (relatively speaking) were calling for him to be traded or delisted. A great team player who, thanks to his work ethic, has got himself within reach of true 'A' grade status.

Hawthorn were marginally better than Geelong last night... I think 99.9999999% of us would have picked Geelong to walk over Freo at Skilled and we all know what happened there (and that is a MUCH tougher ask than the MCG)... so I wouldn't be writing them off.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS

You mean this whisper? -
Don't worry, he's extremely mature for his age

There is merit in that idea... when I was my schools production of "Tom Sawyer" the musical, we had our final rehearsals at Somers Camp on Western Port and I can tell you, we absolutely ripped it up from the moment we stepped onto that stage! Must be something in the air at those Victorian coastal towns.

Yeah, two threads in the space of 10 days? Can't understand why he rates even one.
-
Double exclamation marks? Did you stamp your foot as you typed that I am also going on my recollection of what Roos said... but maybe you have a better memory than I... not that that's a big ask
-
I based my comment on what Roos himself said during OTC (I think it was) on Monday evening... that he had been in conversation with Martin's manager and that he was waiting for Carr to get back to him. He didn't say who initiated the conversation/contact and so, just like the media, you, I and BB are making assumptions as well.
-
I'm thinking there was probably a casual interest, otherwise why would Roos have been in talks with his manager. But I am now wondering whether this might indicate that we are close to reaching some sort of a verbal agreement on one of Adams or Swallow and so have now dismissed Martin as a worst case scenario option.

The FB page may well be genuine, but can you see any of those supposed posts that are being cited? If they are on there, they are only there for sharing with his friends and the rest of us cannot see them... so this must mean that DD36 is on his friends list and is now sharing confidential material after telling me that I was deluded if I thought he would share someone's personal FB page... seems DD36 is more concerned with his own cred than he is with sharing private posts.

No, no, no... there are people on these forums who know a lot better. Just ask them, they'll tell you.

MFC's Virgin Australia Film Festival Video
hardtack replied to PartyTimeJohnny's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well sometimes you just have to be bad to be good. -
Don't worry, you're not alone on that score... I am closing in on 6 decades of supporting the MFC and have a collection of well over 1,000 DVDs and Blu Rays.
-
Well, let me know what you are "into" and I will be more than happy to add to your woes by giving you a list of what I think are worth watching.
-
Could you please provide the link to this Facebook page you talk of? Reading your comments prompted me to do a search and not one of the handful of pages turned up, had any reference to alchohol at all. I get the feeling you are making this up purely because you dislike the person. You are correct... what has this board come to!!
-
Both the matrix and Dark City, in my opinion at least, borrowed heavily from the concept in Philip Jose Farmer's "Riverworld" series. I preferred Dark City purely because it was a bit darker almost in a film noir kind of a way. You mention "Fisher King"... now that reminded me of a great sci-fi (ish) film "Brazil"... love it. For something a bit out there, I recommend "Repo Man"... but I'm a bit of a sucker for anything that has Harry Dean Stanton in a leading role.
