  1. How is that a put down when it is obviously a term of endearment referencing his height and body shape? If the poster should be pulled up for anything over that post, it is the fact that he got the nickname wrong as it should be "Spencil"! (although, as shown in my edit below, Pencil seems to be the correct usage and imaginative Dees supporters have gone a step further with the pun based on his name). Edit: A quick Google using the terms "Spencil" and "Jake Spncer" returns a result that shows the text: "Pencil has stuck since my first training session..." (see below). Unfortunately, the link is failing due to some sort of database access error. Catch-Ups With Jake Spencer | Spultured - Sport. Pop Culture. www.spultured.com/catch-ups-with-jake-spencer/‎ Mar 27, 2013 - ... Demon ruckman Jake Spencer ahead of the upcoming AFL season. ... Pencil has stuck since my first training session, I wouldn't mind a ...
  2. While I agree with most of what you have said, the quoted line is not really true... Jones had his break out years under Bailey and Garland was gathering momentum and confidence at that time as well, following his return from a prolonged absence due to injury. I still remember seeing and talking to Nathan at the Shanghai game training session where, while he didn't play because of his "minor" setback (broken bones in his neck), he was showing inspirational leadership by training while he was in very obvious discomfort - unlike the "acting" captain Moloney, who showed bugger all.
  3. I don't discount the albeit slim possibility that the Swans could still do an about-face and release Dew from his contract.
  4. Interesting to see that Harvey has left the Lions and that Schwab has joined their staff.
  5. Hey, I saw a guy in a commercial for ColourBond the other night... he was making all kinds of furnishings, decorations and accessories using ColourBond fencing materials... he described himself, saying: "I am a tool"... but I still respect him for his creativity.
  6. Comb over? I reckon it has a bit of the old "Haircut 100" about it myself. It's just so 80's!
  7. I wish Col the best of luck and hope he gets to play some finals footy... I was certain he would stay a Dee, but the lure of fame and fortune was obviously more than he could resist.
  8. Yes, and that's another thing that could see his life at the club curtailed prematurely if the "no d'heads" policy is strictly adhered to.
  9. If the plan was to have Dew come in this year as a senior assistant as part of the succession plan, then what happens now if we are to wait for him to come next year? I assume we still have a position that needs filling this year, or am I calling that wrong? If we do need to fill a position this year, who would come on board knowing that they will probably be gone again in 12 months time?
  10. Y M is the Bettlejuice of footy forums... say his name three times, he will turn up and will be very difficult to get rid of.
  11. Over the past couple of seasons, if memory serves, Buddy has missed quite a bit of action due to injury, and regardless of whether these were chronic or not chronic, as he ages the body becomes less able to cope... Buddy is NOT a Tuck and he is NOT a Fletcher... he will be done by age 31 or 32 and the Swans will be forced to pay 4 to 5 years of his contact out. They are in for a world of (financial) hurt.
  12. Until he dons the red and the blue.
  13. Call it MFCSS, but the moment I saw this article in which Frawley says he bleeds red 'n blue, the first thought that entered my head was, "he's gone at the first opportunity". Probably a conditioned response.
  14. On those points: I think we see very little of what could be called "personal abuse" in the footy related threads (political threads seem to be the place for that)... but, I suppose personal abuse is defined by how thick skinned we are (or are not). I certainly do not see anything slanderous... an interesting one, because can calling people on here out be considered slanderous when we are all hiding behind avatars (although I have chosen to use my actual photo for my avatar) and assumed names... the players, club/afl admin and Scully's father are the only people likely to be on the receiving end of slanderous comments. Indecent... nothing - but I suppose that comes down to each individuals' moral threshold. If we were to really police knowingly false information, that could see the end of the rumours thread, because you can be almost certain that much of what appears in there was pulled out of thin air in the hope that the person making the call can attain some bragging rights. As for any other matter deemed inappropriate, that is a catch-all that parallels the AFL's bringing the game into disrepute clause or a govt's state of emergency act - it is necessary, but very rarely acted upon. Anyway, I believe what we have here is a storm in what is, for the most part, a very placid tea cup.
  15. Ok, someone had to do it, so it might as well be me (as much as I detest the song):
  16. If he does indeed go, maybe that will facilitate the reuniting of the Jones brothers? Can but hope.
  17. Slow here as well (Sydney). Not sure it is just a Telstra issue as this is the only site active in my browser that is running very slowly... a number of other sites are all updating as normal (read, quickly).
  18. For any of the top 10..."how would you feel about playing for the MFC?"
  19. Entertaining article in today's Sydney Morning Herald from the pen of Peter FitzSimons.
