In another thread I think I picked us to finish 12th next year... but I suppose it really all comes down to who we pick up over the trade/free agency period and in the drafts. If we manage to get a couple of classy mids, to feed our obviously strong forward line, anything could happen and those odds for a place in the 8 could take a nose dive.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
hardtack replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
You are kidding yourself.... if you think the AFL holds any sway over ASADA, then think again. ASADA are answerable to WADA and if found to be doing sweetheart deals with any sporting organisations so that they don't suffer too much inconvenience, there would be all hell to pay. ASADA will NOT be doing any deals with the AFL. -
Dennis Cometti to develop a stutter after having to call out "Jones to Jones to Jones" repeatedly for an entire season.

By now he must be on first name terms with the crew of that 5:30am long haul flight, surely!

Thanks... you saved me posting the same thing! It's little wonder that there are so many posters with so few posts on this site, who prefer to observe from the sidelines.

Jnr MacDonald knocked back coaching gig at dees
hardtack replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well, just maybe Junior is remembering who took him in when he was no longer wanted and unceremoniously dumped. Perhaps the fact that GWS had faith in him and reaffirmed that faith by giving him an assistant coaching role, means that Junior feels not only an obligation, but a desire to continue his contribution. The fact that he was at the Blueys would indicate that he is not bearing any kind of a grudge, and the fact that he sees fit to continue helping the club that threw him a lifeline speaks volumes for his character. I have nothing but admiration for his choice. -
Screw Carlton like we did with Brock? No thanks. Jack will start season 2014 aged just 23 and still with his best years well ahead of him. I believe that the right coach CAN motivate a player to the point of changing their psyche and I believe that Roos will be able to (with the right assistants) get Jack to become a fearless footballer... pain is easily overcome, but to overcome the fear of being hurt takes a bit more... that is where Roos comes into the picture; look at how he made the Swans into one of the hardest teams going around.

Ahh yes, the "brick with eyes"... he'll be tackling all of the big issues.

Colin Sylvia is yet to decide if he will remain at Melbourne

Great news if accurate.

HOWE snubbed for mark of the year.
hardtack replied to Bombay Airconditioning's topic in Melbourne Demons
That Schultz mark deserves to win... an absolute screamer. -
And Roos responded that all being well, Watts should at least know who his next coach (the successor) will be before he commits... very reasonable.

haha... no, the last avatar change was a limited edition 24hr only celebration of Roos signing on... this one will be more permanent, at least until I change it again (I've always been a big Gerry Gee fan and I thought there was a slight resemblance to Roos in there as well - although he is certainly no dummy). -

There is absolutely nothing in that article that we didn't know already after watching Roos' presser. Roos had stated he talked to Col before he took off on his holiday and that his priority was to keep him at the club. Col will no doubt consider what Roos has put to him and will let the club know upon his return. He has already stated not too long ago that he would love to stay a Dee, so with that in mind and knowing that he is required in Roos plans, I'm sure an agreement will be reached. -
Jazz, It's Not Dead, It Just Smells Funny - Jack Jack's Jazz
hardtack replied to Jack Jack's topic in General Discussion
Not really jazz as such, but it's so hauntingly beautiful that I thought I would throw it in anyway: Daiqing Tana "Ongmanibamai": Japanese weird jazz band Electrocution 250 "Fletcher the Mouse" **Warning: This WILL polarise you!"- 153 replies

Ok, it's been a long while since I jumped in here, so here are a couple you may or may not be familiar with (I try to be a little obscure): Bas Lexter Ensample "HongKongLingLing" Kanazawa, Akiko - famed Japanese minyou singer - "Yellow Submarine"- 153 replies

That game will give me no pleasure at all... I would hate to see Richmond win it, but at the same time I don't want Carlton to win it... they simply don't deserve to be playing finals... they are there under pretence all because the Bummers were evicted. But having said that, I get the feeling it will be a very good game.
-
Look, if we had taken Wines and Port had taken Toumpas, we would probably be saying the same thing as Toumpas performed and Wines was surrounded by a poor side. But I do agree it was a pleasure watching the Pies bow out so early.
-
Then why the use of "massive fail"? What was one solid body going to get us this year? As I said, wait until they have both played 50 games and let's see how they compare.
-
So you think if we had taken Wines, we would be playing finals this year? Get real! Toumpas has shown in the last few games that he is on the way and another pre-season under Roos will see him doing better and better. It's way to early to say that Wines is better than Toumpas... let's see how they are looking after they have each played 50 games.

I already mentioned him a couple of times... not sure why he is overlooked while Ling gets all of the attention. Then again, I also suggested Bob Murphy, so that probably eliminates me from any claim to sensibility ;-)
-
I would like to see a successor who has some of Roos' qualities in that they possess a history of elite performance as a player, the intellectual ability to see things clearly and apply them equally well, and is a great communicator... For this reason, I believe Ling would be worth pursuing, but if he is ruling himself out at this point, I can only think of two others who would fit the mould at this point... one is Brett Kirk, but the other is a real smokey (get ready to laugh) and is still playing, and that is Bob Murphy. Obviously he has no experience in the coaching caper, but I get the feeling he would take to it with ease.

We are spending vast amounts of money on a new coach and no doubt on new assistants and new players, so why would we throw money away on pointless exercises that are designed to justify the existence of a few marketing types? I like the emblem, have no issue with the uniforms and sponsors will come and go (you certainly don't just "change" sponsors).

But will there be any dwarf burning on Mad Monk-day?

Who were the eight Dees that Roos spoke to?
hardtack replied to Deespicable's topic in Melbourne Demons
No, he said in his presser that he would be talking to Sylvia on his return from Col's O/S trip and that he would be talking to Watts asap (forget the exact phrasing).
