  1. It was a late afternoon game actually, so at least you only had to put up with them until early evening :-)... that was the first Dees game that my youngest son got to attend. Unfortunately Howe's mark and Clark's general play were the only good things to come out of that day; of course the other big disappointment (apart from the scoreline), was Jurrah's less than stellar return from injury (in fact, am I right in thinking he may have been re-injured in that game?).
  2. Gee, bit of a back handed compliment there! Second best after someone who is yet to play his first game at senior level?
  3. We had our first Sydney based game in something like 5 or 6 seasons, against the Swans at the SCG last year... so we probably won't get another for another few years. The addition of GWS hasn't really helped our plight much either, as last year our game against them was in the ACT (great for DeeOldFart and others) and that will no doubt happen again... this year we got them at Skoda, but had no Swans game. This is why I can't really have too much sympathy for those complaining about losing a couple of home games to Darwin and the Alice... we pay full membership but get one game to attend, IF we are lucky. The game against GWS in the ACT meant a three hour drive and a night's accommodation. Any game attended in Melbourne means an airfare and at least one night's (probably two) accommodation... all on top of the cost of a membership!
  4. Whenever Tom looks at that photograph, he must surely be thinking to himself, "I've seen the future, and it 'aint looking so good!".
  5. My young son is currently doing skills training sessions (run by AFL NSW/ACT) and two of his "coaches" are former Swans Jason Saddington and Nick Davis... Davis may be small, but christ he has a thumping kick!!
  6. And quite possibly will start to realise his potential.
  7. They could play him forward... regardless, I think he will be selected.
  8. Well, he's already being lauded by many in the know as a potential savior for the club, so I'll nominate Pick 9.
  9. Maybe he's been smoking the skins?
  10. Agreed... and regardless of what anyone on here thinks of Col, he WILL be playing finals footy next year, nothing is surer.
  11. Welcome to the world of the interstate member... we pay, but rarely get to see them play live unless we can afford to fork out for fares and accommodation.
  12. One, the first ever game for points in the Alice. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-10-23/three-games-in-the-nt-for-dees
  13. If you want something done properly, do it yourself ;-)
  14. Could never look a hard boiled egg in the eye again after watching that movie.
  15. Maybe it's just me, but that line always reminds me of lines like "I'm not a racist, but..."
  16. I'm excited at the beginning of every season... usually distraught by the end of round 3. However, in 2014 I will also have a sense of confidence which I haven't felt since I don't remember when.
  17. 1. Hawthorn 2. Fremantle 3. Geelong 4. Collingwood 5. Sydney 6. Carlton 7. North Melbourne 8. Gold Coast 9. Richmond 10. Port Adelaide 11. Bulldogs 12. Melbourne 13. Adelaide 14. Essendon 15. West Coast 16. Brisbane 17. St. Kilda 18. GWS Essendon's position will be dependent on the ASADA action, Sydney will slip due to the destabilising effect of Buddy's arrival and the departure of several players as a result. Saints will struggle. Bulldogs will continue their good form and remain ahead of us. Port will settle back down to a more realistic position. A decent midfield and classy forward line will see us start to move up, but not as rapidly as some seem to think as we first need to build a "winning culture".
  18. But what happened to the schoolgirl? Hopefully she turned her life around and karma has rewarded Cross with a second chance as well.
  19. I doubt it would be seen like that at all. Just because you and others don't like the game, doesn't mean that the players feel the same way and it certainly doesn't mean that the AFL won't see it as these players representing their code and their country overseas. Our opinions of the game don't come into this at all. I would hope that bad influences don't have an affect on a young player like Dom Barry who has played no AFL at the top level and is probably a little star struck with the company he is keeping.
  20. Just tweeted: "Breaking news: Australian International Rules players have been hauled before team management after a drunken night out." Hope Dom Barry has managed to avoid coming under a few wayward influences. Edit: maybe not as bad as it first seemed... subsequent tweets: "Hotel staff were twice called to a room at the team's Dromoland Castle hotel after players had a big night out in Limmerick" "No @AFL_Indigenous players will be sent home, but players reminded of their responsibilities. Game 2 in Dublin on Saturday"
  21. Perhaps they must wait until the Delisted Free Agency period begins?
  22. Memberships will not be an issue... Roos has signed Jack Watts on when all believed he was lost We now have something resembling a decent midfield We have Clark back training We have the prospect of a forward line comprising Dawes, Hogan, Clark and Howe who may even finally be able to get some decent delivery from further up the ground We have one of the most exciting forward prospects in many a year about to embark on his AFL career And lastly, we will have a de-facto DeeTV every Monday night on Foxtel, in the form of On the Couch! Put a few wins on the board to start the season off, and our memberships should start to head for the ceiling, if not quite going through the roof.
  23. At the club maybe, but silly season runs 365 per year on D'land.
