  1. Jurrah is fantastic because I want to watch him play. He doesn't play like a machine. For example: Judd is predictably good, the Jurrahcane is just great to watch. Could be a disaster one day sublime the next. You can see he loves playing. He looks even better when he is on the run with Aussie at his side. That will become one of the great partnerships in the AFL. Maybe we need more partnerships like that in our team. 24 on my back this year! (I love the fact we and our players are connecting with remote communities. Well done Dees.)
  2. Oh and i would still picks Watts much greater up side.
  3. Stephanie does need to harden up but you know it was really a drafting mistake in the first place and she has no place in senior finger painting at this early stage she needs time in the play doh room. Face facts, she probabaly will never make it. For finger painting you should have gone for a boy and called him Pablo. Can we have a thread on Mark Robinson v Caroline Wilson.
  4. I agree. For completeness we should have a kick it to Jack thread (the other two threads look lonely at the top of the forum.) Why are the players ignoring very good leads? And If he only gets 10 to 15 touches a game lays 6 to 8 tackles and kicks 4 thats going to suit me fine. I dont mind if he gets 6 touches and kicks 6 (plus tackles).
  5. I have to agree what was done to him was disgraceful and the umpires sat idly by. Its a matter of support. Like the shepherding near the mark that is now in vogue, we need to work as a team to get him loose because when he is loose he is devastating.
  6. Ditch the flag. Ditch the velvet jacket for a footy jumper (old style). Bugle ok but how about some drums...I like the fact that our supporters are making the G their own with some real voice. On TV (yep in Sydney) the sound of a passionate crowd is great. Add some noise maybe the crowd can help change momentum.
  7. I think the real thing to take away from what Roos said is not that he might be right or wrong about specific players rather he looks at a role for the team and makes them play that role and be responsible for it. We do jump at our keyboards too quickly and I think thats the value of Roos reflections. Is our gameplan rebounding from Half back working, what roles are our players demanded to paly and are they reaching those targets? I dont think he has one game in mind he sees what they could do within a plan. He seems to be the master of incrimental performance improvement which is probably why he favours established players compared to youth. So as I said above the question is not who is A , B or C but rather who is delivering on the role demanded of them (assuming that demand is being made)to the standard required. I'd like Sylvia (potential A grader) to deliver week in and out at that level but he lapses at times and so on for others in the squad. Reality is we will always have a mix and its how we task each player and if they deliver (for 120 minutes) on that which will make the difference.
  8. Its a clear signal we will not tolerate any lapse. Elite performance is going to be required off and on the field. I hope it sends a signal to our squad we expect elite performance at all levels. I agree that if he sticks to what he has been doing to date on the field and sticks to a regime off the field then he should be brought back into the group at his 100 for the club.
  9. I rate Roos as a coach. Roos was an alchemist turning the lead in the saddle bags of other teams into gold. Roos's Delphic (and to some Daffy) utterances like "Jones is under rated" and "Melbourne should have kept Miller" can confound us. Here is a man who serious thinks he could turn Miller into a good forward. Whilst we openly scoff we also secretly think he would do it. He has taken several groups of average players and underperforming players from other clubs to levels above where they should be on any rational assessment of their talent and in one year to a Premiership. If you look back at his premiership team there were few "elite" players in the list just some hard at it never say die working class mids. Last night on the couch we got an insight into how he did it and its simplicity is breathtaking. He said "we pick a player for a role and make sure he knows and follows the responsibilities of that role." Simple. Thats why he rates Jones, a player who knows his role and takes responsibility for it. When he doesn't perform he makes damn sure he does everything he can the next week to perform. No doubt why Bailey rates him as do his team mates. He made an excellent point about Col Sylvia (who is probably our most talented player and should win a Brownlow) that he doesn't always execute to his role or responsibility. He showed the "in the back" free at half back followed by the 50 metres. Col didn't honour his responsibilities in that instance. Dunn likewise with his silly tackles. Week in and week out Moloney a player of lesser talent to Sylvia plays his role to the tee. Jurrah was told last week to use his pace to get into space and stop leaping and he followed it with spectacular results. Time for Col and others to step up and stop doing just enough. A team full of players with Jones and Moloney's attitude and we will be unstoppable because there is a bucket load of talent in our team.
  10. Eddie should apologise to Beamer in my view he failed to check the facts with the nightclub before allowing someone to smear Beamer. Ok to have a go at Beamer for late night drinking but the rest was uncalled for. If it had been a Collingwood player I reckon he would have exercised restraint and checked the facts.
  11. Leadership requires you to set standards for the group on and off the field. He didn't meet those standards. I think he will in the future. Beamer is a straight forward bloke and it appears he hasn't shirked this issue which is a good sign for the future. He will be back in the leadership group in time.
  12. 6. Moloney 5. Rivers 4. Jurrah 3. Jamar 2. Jones 1. Gysberts
  13. We have a real problem in our team, our players are ignoring good leads by Watts. Bailey should ask why this is happening. Look back on this site to see this has been a theme. Its clear our players are not kicking the ball to him. Yesterday Danny Frawley put one in the book for his coach killers. We went to the top of the 50 to Jurrah surrounded by 4 players whilst Watts had led to a vacant spot closer to goal. Ball rebounded back for Brisbane. On TV it looked absolutely rediculous as Watts was clear in perfect position. Dumb choices by our team. As for avoiding contact isn't that the ideal for a forward to get loose and take an easy mark. If our players dont like Watts someone has to tell them to get over it. Whilst on form he should be an out I'd keep him for GC with a direction to players to target him. Dunn must be also at risk just for the number of frees he gave away with high tackles. Will someone protect Davey? Its clear the umpires wont. Yesterday was digraceful, the umpires just ignored the heavy treatment he got off the ball. We needed some on to run through the tag to help release him. Does anyone know Geeshan's email so I can let him know my thoughts.
  14. Congratulations to Jonesy, one of the players who brought it home yesterday.
  15. Seems a strange balance on the bench thats all. And i agree boht were ok when the team was going well. I am a big Watts fan for the long term and i'd like to see him played around the ground a bit to get him into the action learning more at AFL level.
  16. If garland is out then warnock gets the nod.
  17. My thought but that makes the bench pretty interesting Watts and Dunn. Surely they wont start that way. Is it a message to them "last chance this week perform or off to the magoos"?
  18. I think Hale would not have been great value for money. He only started to look good when the rest of his team were firing. The week before he was not very effective. I think we should be cautious about this, Roos believes in recruiting marginal but mature players and bringing them on because he has had some success at it. The plus to it is they come with bodies to match. That is not the primary model we have adopted to date. I dont subscribe to the theory elsewhere on this site that our are recruits are soft. Thats just a reaction to last Saturday. I dont think Scully, Tapscott, Tregove, McKenzie, Grimes, Morton are soft. Not mature yet, sure. As for Watts he will be a big lump very soon in the interim he will still look gawky on the field. That may give an impression of softness to some but when he gets in the right position he is prepared to put his body on the line. Going backwards into a pack to mark against 3 Hawks was not soft. A big lump in the forward line might be superficially attractive for a year or so. Our problems last Saturday was we had no plan to beat the press,we lost structure and then the wheels fell off. I do think its time to start to demand an elite outlook on our performances.
  19. I have tried to keep away from this for a week (mainly to avoid a knee jerk) but again I cant let this pass. I agree the level of despair on the site after a loss is unwarranted as a general rule. This week we saw a display that deserves a rocket. We panicked trying to come out of defence and our leaders did not stand up. No excuses. As for Bailey not being there to inspire them frankly that is a load of rubbish. Teach and guide yes. Schoolboy jamboree no. A coach must inspire. A coach must have a game plan that he demands be delivered on field. Assistant coaches can teach and guide. He must demand elite performance and nothing less.
  20. Iwas only going to do one post this week but I break my shortlived silence to say to Hang. I love your Zen like poise. Go Dees
  21. Despite being really angry at us leaving the ground at half time like we had won, I was not going to post today because the team and Bailey know it was a shocker. However this summary is unfair to some of the backs. I know Bailey has said no one was good because its played over 4 quarters etc etc. In particular Tapscott for a second gamer played a very good game (a couple of dodgy kick in decisions but he was not alone there). At the end he had given absolutely everything and had nothing left in the tank. The big test for bailey and the team will be to come up with a zone breaking system. I hope it happens quickly because it resembles the Ugly footy Roos invented for the swans. I hate seeing our game being played in one half of footy each week. We wont see the AFL saying its Ugly to Eddie and co. (off topic i know but thats my say for the week.)
  22. Not good but no doubt he will be doing a lot of upper body work in that time (just dont over do it). Hope he has a speedy recovery.
  23. Really interesting article on the club website about Beamer and Flash. So many of our team really do bleed red and blue. Leadership These two guys are examples of quietly getting the job done off and on the field. Very impressed Beamer set up a program off his own bat and the palyers did it with their own hard earned. Flash is equally impressive with the work he is doing quietly behind the scenes. I really hope we get there whilst they are playing.
  24. Last week I coughed up for my 2 brothers (in the hope they will fork out each year themselves from now on)and signed the dog up. My gf is resisting but I almost have her over the line helped by hubub around the St Kilda team.
