  1. I actually thought our defense did exceptionally well today considering the amount of pressure they came under. Yes we got smashed at the stoppages, PJ's ruckwork didn't help, and so the ball was parked inside the Hawk's forward 50 for extended periods. But Frawley, Garland, Bartram and Bail (who was definitely in the top 5) fought hard all day and deserve their dues, aside from some occasionally horrendous kicking from Bartram and Garland...and that was when the ball was dry. Although they handled the wet conditions better, it allowed Jordie McKenzie's gutsy head over the footy style of play to come to the fore. He was another highlight. I do think the maggots deserve a mention. Some of those decisions, particularly those against Frawley were laughable. And I disagree with Bailey. I do think Franklin's free in the goal square hurt us badly and put a halt to any momentum we were gathering. But in saying that I think the umps were only one factor in us losing the game.
  2. Martin had glimpses which showed why he was pick 3, though. Any club would gladly take him.
  3. 6. Dunn 5. Davey 4. Frawley 3. Scully 2. Bruce 1. Jurrah
  4. Great having those four names, but our forwardline undoubtedly looks most potent when we push Green up there. He was the key difference in the Swans game. Those other four have a fair distance to travel before we start relying on them to kick a winning score.
  5. What I'd give to have Petterd fit. Automatic replacement for Jurrah after a pretty dismal effort last week. The key word being effort. In: Moloney, Trengove Out: Jurrah, Bail (simply to make room for a clear starter)
  6. I can't believe we finally chalked up a win in the white. How long since we had done that..? I think our best previous effort was when we wore it against the Doggies? Not a win but damn close.
  7. I doubt any club would want to look at Kerr to be honest. He's a liability.
  8. Riding on the back of talks about expansion into the ACT, there is a lot of support down here for the team to be called the Rams, as this was the name given to the NSW/ACT U18 side in the TAC Cup. RAMS is basically an acronnym from Riverina, ACT, Murrumbidgee and Sydney. I like the name myself, even if it does share its name with one of the most notoriously hopeless franchises in the NFL. As recent as last week the proposal is for a 10 year committment with a $270 million redevelopment of Bruce Stadium to make it a multi-purpose facility that would essentially replace Manuka Oval. Will be interesting to see where it leads, though they need to put a bit more effort into the ACT4GWS campaign if they are to have any hope of reaching the target of 5000 memberships by the end of September. And no, they would never replace the Dees as my number 1. Would be nice to have a clear number 2 team though.
  9. Yeah I kinda gathered that....seeing as he played U18s in 2009.
  10. Notice they have a Chris Grant on their team as well. That's a strong list..
  11. The Tiges had 3 players on debut last time. They'll be a fairly different article this time around with inclusions like Newman and Cousins. I'd also be alot warier of Dustin Martin who is growing into a very dangerous player when it comes to clearances and winning contested ball.
  12. There are few players I enjoy more seeing kick a goal than Cam Bruce. Not necessarily for the aesthetics..
  13. Chip will own the ginga this time around.
  14. Either him or Bennell, provided he can play like he did against the Swans.
  15. I've seen Johnson mention this in a couple of interviews before. Having players such as him and Hird list him amongst their toughest opponents speaks volumes. He looks like a man who is really enjoying his footy at the moment and, fortunately, I see him playing out his career at the MFC.
  16. I'll be perturbed if Frawley doesn't get in, upset if Green doesn't get in, and stunned if Jamar doesn't get in.
  17. Most frustrating thing with Watts is his reluctance to kick it through the big sticks! But with time will come confidence. He's still doing some great things.
  18. The temptation to flame you for that one is great, I must say.
  19. The only major disappointment for me was Jurrah. His defensive efforts are becoming a major issue. Great teams in the modern game apply intense defensive pressure in their forward 50 and he's simply not pulling his weight. He's a star but needs a kick up the arse on this facet of his game.
  20. 6. Syliva (clear standout..also his goal busting through the pack was a thing of beauty) 5. Garland (MONSTER effort, who stands a chance at getting a clean pair of hands on the pill when this guy is on song?) 4. McKenzie (handled the slippery conditions as good as anyone out there) 3. Jamar (usual candidate) 2. Frawley (ditto) 1. Dunn (showed great composure when needed) Apolgoies to Bartram. He's moulded himself into a key part of our defence and once again produced some great head over the footy stuff but his poor disposal was a bit more noticeable than last week.
  21. Anyone who would begrudge us this win can get stuffed.
  22. He also singled out Frawley, Garland and Bartram as illustrations of speed in rebounding out of defence being one of our great strengths. He's a class act no doubt.
  23. Jones seems like such a genuine bloke. Don't know if anyone else saw the piece that Gerard Healy did on him which gave an insight into his life outside of football, but he's the kinda guy you feel proud to have wearing the Demons jumper.
  24. The game thread in the Swans section on bigfooty is good stuff too. The hatred toward's Bruce's emotional commentary is hilarious.
