The romantic in me kids himself into thinking that there is a player or players out there who can see the opportunity in being an integral part of the rebirth of the MFC. Someone who history would look upon favourably as taking a punt on the lowly Demons and helping to lead them out of the ashes. The reality of course is very different. I honestly thought Roos would be a big enough drawcard to get the Crosses and Shiels over the line but it would seem not, at this stage.

Since when is cap space an issue for us Doc? We're up to our ears in cap space are we not?

I think it's more a case of free agents (or at least their managers) having no interest in us. Makes me sick to read of all these players looking to go to Carlton and not one mention of a player looking to come here. Brings back to the surface those feelings of anger, bordering on hatred, towards those who have put the club in this position.

Would likely get a bag of chips for him at this stage. More value in keeping him for his experience than giving him away cheaply. Certainly the development of Gawn and Pencil indicates his value in that regard, and if he can stay injury free there may be another decent run in him. :The residual issue is what he adds outside of the ruck contest, which is pretty much nothing. I think Roos can address that. Without a decent offer, which seems extremely unlikely, I'd be keeping him on.

Agreed. Tapscott yes. Blease no.

I swear to god, if all we manage to pick up is Didak, who is 100% finished, and Jake effing push ups King... I'd rather get no-one than those two.

That's um....that's pretty wild man. The way things are trackng I'll be happy if we just land A player. Even Cross is looking doubtful now. I suppose we did land Roos. Hoping for a second lucky break would be asking a bit much.

Can't see it happening, but Rockliff is a genuine star. Pick 2 would not be overs.

I have been a critic in the past of the mob mentality I've witnessed here, but either I've become desensitised or it hasn't been happening as often. Most threads actually stay on topic these days and posters seem to be more conscious of not being a dick towards their fellow supporters. Very often, there is no right and wrong. Sometimes that point gets lost. Ultimately it's about passion which we all have otherwise we wouldn't be here. Everyone expresses that passion differently, and that should never be sacrificed. Just don't be a dick about it

I must've missed the memo about Freo being a powerhouse club. I thought they were a largely struggling club who have strengthed their list through smart recruiting, stolen a gun coach, and are now a shot at a flag. All within a few years. I'm not saying the haves and have nots isn't a reality that FA is contributing towards, but it's also not the doom and gloom picture many paint it to be. It's also worth noting that not every player is as self interested as Sylvia. I doubt many were surprised by this news.

Even if we accept that his stats on their own are average, he's still one of less than a handful in the side you'd even be able to call average. Never came close to value, but he was definitely building the past couple of seasons. Notably ranked 16th in the league for inside 50s, between Montagna and Wingard. That's a chief ball user in terms of forward entries, in an already terrible side, that won't be there to provide some service. It's great we've got Hogan, but he's not much use if he's collecting dust at one end of the ground. As a person and leader I don't give a rats, but in terms of talent and on form, he is a bad loss, and will need to be suitably replaced.

I can not fathom the flippancy being demonstrated here about the impending loss of Sylvia. There is a hint of the mouse with the electric pellet. Exactly how many times does the club need to be decimated on the field by the loss of its senior players for it to sink in? Without Sylvia this year, we would have quite literally had ONE senior contributor in the midfield in Jones. We are talking here about the loss of our only other senior midfielder worth a pinch of muck. Edit: Just seen confirmation he's gone. Getting fair compensation is now vital.

I know words are cheap, but he is without question my favourite player to listen to.

I think people have become so used to Melbourne's woefulness in this department that they believed Shaw for Pick 2 was a legitimate possibility.
-
Rightly or wrongly, my heart just went into my socks for a brief moment. Freo fans would be loving that.
-
After his GF, performance, I'm not so sure.. Seriously, his kicking at times is comical.

Will flourish under Roos and will be retained as co-captain alongside Jones.

Three years.. Three. Years. Baffling.

At the risk of making ranga comparisons, perhaps he could become our Gary Rohan? He would however need to learn how to chase and tackle first, but he's capable of some brilliant things on the field and his speed is a weapon. Been a big disappointment so far. Arguably the biggest. Hope he can turn it around next year cause it could be his last chance to do so.

What he did was take swipe at an easy target. He made the comment when Neeld had barely been 6 months into the job if I recall correctly. The fact Neeld ending up getting the sack a year and a half later doesn't make the timing of his comments any less premature. Ask Geelong fans what they think of his predictions. King alright. King [censored].

Was David King's prediction to be Melbourne's breakout star in 2013, based upon the practice match he attended. Do us a favour King. Stop making predictions.

Ben - finds lawn bowls interesting; hates soccer. Yep, story checks out. Football, or soccer, is a brilliant game, but you have to be emersed in it to really appreciate it, I think. It isn't for the impatient sports fan, much like test cricket. A good game of rugby is very watchable, but a crap one is arguably the worst spectacle of all the football codes.

We all love Howey but his worst is very poor. He becomes the invisible man and I'm sick of that trait in our players. We need more who demand the ball. In saying that, I don't think his marketing value should be easily dismissed. He has carried the lion's share in motivating people to come through the gates to watch another Melbourne massacre. His set shots have also noticably improved. Haven't checked the stats but he certainly looks more comfortable. Howe for Adams would be a no brainer when you consider the existing weaponry in the forward line, but I'd be sorry to see him go.
