Other clubs playing "Hell's Bells" pre-bounce...annoying or not?
P-man replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can't answer the first question with conviction other than to say we started playing it last year and I hadn't noticed any other club using it until this year. OP is based on the assumption we were the first to use it. -
He was good against West Coast. He wasn't fantastic. The media said he was fantastic. His stat sheet said otherwise. Like I said, the bar has been so low prior to now. That's mainly why he's suddenly getting praised.

His bank balance. A millionaire before the age of 21. [censored]. That and the fact his career to date has been so underwhelming, he is getting lauded just for being aggressive.

To an extent I agree, but some of the concessions require examination now before Frankenstein gets out of control, e.g. discounts on academy selections, Riverina zone etc. But this is the Dogs' moment and they've just parked that debate until next year. Would be an unbelievable achievement if they can go one step further.

Well done puppies. Good for footy.

I've touched on this in other threads but I'm curious to see what others think. Some will have noticed that the song chosen for Melbourne's pre-game ritual, AC/DC's "Hell's Bells", has been adopted this season at numerous other grounds, usually being played just prior to the opening bounce. I've noticed this happening at the home games of Sydney, Adelaide, Carlton, Essendon and tonight, GWS. This may be something orchestrated by the AFL. In any case, it annoys me for two reasons. Firstly, I liked the song itself as an addition to pre-game. The bells tolling as the team runs onto the ground I thought was a great and unique touch. This is purely subjective as some may not like the song itself or think building atmosphere artificially is a bit of a [censored], but not me. Now the use of the song is no longer unique which all but defeats the purpose. What really shits me however is what it signifies having other teams use the song. If Collingwood had chosen a particular song to play when running onto the ground, what would be their reaction if other teams ripped it off? Eddie would likely be up in arms by Monday morning. Would other teams even attempt it? Unlikely. In this instance, it's happened seemingly without a murmur from anyone. So what's the verdict? Am I making a mountain out of a molehill or is this cause for some annoyance? Is it worth asking for a please explain? It's not like the club would have any rights over playing the song and to an extent the horse has already bolted. But I'd be interested to know if the club was consulted. Poll added.

In an alternate universe somewhere, there is a Demons supporter forum talking about Fyfe being lured to Melbourne by his childhood best mate in Cale Morton.

You knew you were on a hiding to nothng making that post Steve I do have a level of sympathy for the players and for your standpoint on where the blame lies. I appreciate that this whole incident points to the potential dangers of club culture. My sympathy for the players diminished however after the CAS findings, particularly regarding the players' lack of disclosure on doping control forms and general negligence. It's just too much to ignore. They've served their time for what were largely gross errors of judgement. That is the end of the matter for me. What I can't stomach is the marching parade welcome back. As Choke says, these guys aren't heroes. I personally don't consider them to be villains either, but they sure as hell aren't heroes.

Brisbane would be laughing if they could grab Dunny for a fourth round pick. I'd much prefer to keep him, but if his opportunities here have dried up then he should probably go. He's too good to be languishing in the VFL. At 29 I think early third round is about right.

Max is proof that modern players who talk like robots aren't necessarily sterilised by the industry. They just aren't willing to share their personality with the public. Max is very willing.

Hey, it worked i was surprised GC didn't bid. They could use every shred of publicity they can get.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
P-man replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm may be biased having been in Jesse's situation somewhat recently (which is why I've refrained from commenting), but I think the situation calls for compassion, not coercion. This is a marquee player we're talking about who remains central to our future plans. It's big stakes pushing him out the door simply because he wouldn't extend a year before his contract expired. Clearly it isn't ideal having him playing on next year without an extension for reasons of list management and reduced bargaining power, not to mention the outside distraction it causes. However given his importance and the personal circumstance he finds himself in, I think it's not only the right thing to do, the potential reward (him signing on during or at the conclusion of 2017) is one that's worth the risk. Hopefully it gets sorted in the off season. If not, play on. -
Not the worst sort, it's fair to say. Didn't realise the Treloar kid was a Melbourne supporter. I was hoping he would win after that. I tend to attach myself to anyone once they reveal they support MFC. It's a sickness.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
P-man replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good to know the condescending crap written about Melbourne hasn't dried up just yet. Not many (if any) other clubs would have an article purely trying to make sense of why a player wants to go there. Take a breath. Melbourne is a destination club. At least that’s Michael Hibberd’s perspective as the defender seeks to join the Demons ahead of the 2017 season. Translation: Preapre yourself for something shocking. Players actually want to go to Melbourne. I know right? At least that's what Hibberd reckons. Lol good luck Michael. -
Yep, I was surprised (but not bowled over) by corporate and sponsorship revenue being so comparatively low. Roughly half that of North and the Bulldogs which reflects the depths to which we sank. Like it or not, gaming remains an important revenue source. Finals, final, finals. Need to keep building that attractive brand. The Saints would want to ensure they are achieving everything they possibly can on field. Almost half their revenue is coming directly from the AFL. Financially speaking they are on life support.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
P-man replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Okay, so we're officially a destination club now (lulz at that entire exchange). Hiibberd and Salem in 2017 I'm excited. Not quite at Big Kev level but in that vicinity. -
Garland was pretty good from what I saw. Don't know his final stats.
-
Assuming the decision had already been made, I think the selectors would've questioned leaving Daniel out while watching him run riot in an Elimination Final. 33 disposals (13 contested) and 8 inside 50s. He was probably the Dogs best player, Membrey and Hunter on the bench are both expendable. I think Daniel is already shaping up as a more damaging player than Hunter. He's not a massive omission but he would've been a very worthy inclusion.

You're not on your own re Motlop. He has the ability to bust a game open but he is wildly inconsistent and as any Cats fan will attest to, he can make the difficult look simple but he can also make the simple look very difficult. I don't think many would be crying into their cereal at the prospect of losing Motlop. -
"Spoke to Adolf, he told me the shoulder is feeling good, can fully extend his arm at 45 degrees now, he wasn't happy about Austria losing to Poland in the Euros, i told him its only another four years until the next one, i don't think he appreciated my joke, Adolf doesn't laugh much"

The first half at least lets him know his absence is being noted. The second half is a healthy reminder for why he would stay away.

History would say there is definitely no point. Reasoning with Saty is about as productive as reasoning with a bloke on a street corner wearing his underpants on his head. There are some valiant attempts but they will always be stonewalled. That's not to say that relaying content to the players is clearly crossing a line. Nothing will come of it. Nothing ever does with old Saty. He's the only poster who as far as I can tell has a free pass to do pretty much what he likes. All because he used to post training threads recounting stories of players winking at him. Anyone else would've surely been banned several times over by now. How Curry and Luded have been given their marching orders while Saty continues to survive, only admin would be able to answer. The first two had their faults but they at least had some sort of interest in contributing constructively to the forum. Saty openly hates the place and tries to shut down any thread or discussion that doesn't involve pom pom waving. And then, the best kicker of all, claims he doesn't really care about footy. Doesn't care about the club having success. It's just the players who will pose for a gun pic that he cares about. The whole thing is completely stark raving bonkers. But at this stage it's hard not be entertained by the absurdity of it. -
I've noticed our views often align. Can't ever remember disagreeing with what you've written. This is now my favourite thread. I'm hitting like all over the shop. Not sure if people imagining me reciting my posts to them while sitting on the toilet is a good thing, but I'm too attached to my avatar to change it.

If rpfc isn't attracted by the prospect of renaming himself Spewy, I'm out of ideas.

Probably had a gutful of the place. We've all been there at some point. Maybe we can lure him back by trading out another reg. Not naming names but it starts with s and rhymes with pooey.
