Perhaps. I'm sure they'll get over it. There's something very entertaining about an angry mob of foaming Richmond fans. If trolling Richmond is Roosy's parting gift, thats not a bad note to end on
-
Man the Tigger supporters are NOT happy with Roos' parting shot at Richmond..lol https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/paul-roos-cgagf.1144605/ All the best fabrications are in there. Melbourne tanking entire seasons. Roos on $2m a season paid for by the AFL. Applying for PPs in 2013 & 2014 (that's a new one). Anything to place themselves above Melbourne. They have integrity, apparently

No to Miles. We don't need more foot soldier types. Richmond exodus gets funnier by the day though.

Apparently was barely able to get a touch at Peel in the last couple of games. Very unfortunate. If he can rebuild confidence in his body have a solid season in the WAFL to prove he's not a spent force, clubs might show interest. As it stands he's way too much of a risk.
-
Bomber and Maclure take a passing interest at best. It's obvious how little time and preparation they put in for supposed "analysts". The others on the panel pretty much just take the pizz out of Maclure despite his attempts to be taken seriously. I'm not David King's biggest fan but he actually invests time into analysing each club. I doubt he'd have given Melbourne a D. In a sense, I don't mind the lower ratings for the season even if some of it is based on ignorance. For us it is about setting higher expectations.

I would be surprised if someone with his playing resume wasn't a very positive influence on the playing group. But no, it's not an automatic assumption they are a leader. Just a strong likelihood

As I said, I get that 55's groupings are conditional. I guess it depends on how many of those options were enacted. The sum of the parts so to speak. It also is hugely contingent on what we actually are getting in return. White's performance against Footscray doesn't do him in any harm in his quest to remain on the list, but I don't think we'd suffer too greatly from moving him on. My delistings would be Newton, Terlich, Dawes, King(R) and maybe White(R) with Lumumba retiring potentially. I agree that only one of Dunn or Garland should be traded, as trading both would be a crazy given the depth of our key defensive stocks. Out of the two I'd say keep Dunn. I'm resigned to the fact that Grimes will likely seek greener pastures which I think is a shame as I honestly believe he has some good years ahead of him. They will probably be played at another club and so be it. I wish him luck. With Grimes and Newton going I'd keep Michie. He has assets as a player that are undersold and he hasn't had ample opportunity at AFL level in roles that suit him. I understand I'm pretty much on my Pat Malone there and I'm okay with that. ANB and JKH might be on the trade table but I'd want them used only as part of a deal for a certified gun in return. I believe in both being able to become quality players, ANB moreso. Harmes won't be going anywhere and I doubt Wagner will either. M Jones and Pedersen provide points of difference. Their spot would want to be filled by a player that betters them in those areas. My underlying point is I'm obviously okay with strenghtening the list, but we are in a precarious position with the ages of the players being thrown up for delisting and trade. A lot of them are senior players in an already VERY young squad. If we are replacing these guys with speculative picks in the 50s and 60s then I'm not okay with that. We have stability and we have a Casey side about to challenge for a flag. I don't want to see that stability disrupted unnecessarily.

Not going into this. Safe to say we disagree on the quality of certain players. Minimal list changes are required. There is no cause for a panicked slash and burn.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here

May as well. They stole "Hell's Bells" and no-one blinked an eyelid. They play it before the bounce at a lot of non-MFC games these days. That being a unique part of our pre-match ritual lasted about one season. Would they have ripped off Collingwood's pre-match song of choice? Highly unlikely. -
Have wondered this myself.
-
Yep, on the condition they're not replaced. Honestly I'd keep Pedo regardless. More than handy role player to have at our disposal.
-
I get that some of these groupings are conditonal, but I can't for the life of me understand why some supporters want to do major pruning of the list. Is it force of habit? I don't get it. We have the strongest Casey side in more than a decade. Our depth as a result is as strong as it has been for a similar amount of time. If we cut loose all of Grimes. Michie, Newton and ANB, that's basically the core of the second string midfield gone. We'll be back to having a crap Casey side applying no pressure to the seniors. It just makes no sense to me. It's worth emphasising again, we had a charmed run with injuries this season. We may not be so fortunate next year.
-
Can't recall if he did (and have no desire to watch the segment again to confirm either way). It sort of goes without saying that if you think a player is a list clogger then you also think they should be delisted/traded, doesn't it? Personally I think getting rid of both of them with no ready replacement would be almost as dumb a decision as we could make, and I don't see it happening.

I view Essendon getting Pick 1 (which is a massive asset no matter which way you shake it) as akin to the proceeds of crime. This wasn't just their gap year. It was like their jail year. Pick 1 is a reward to which they should not be entitled. It will look even worse if they manage to bounce back immediately next season. And yes, in the jail analogy, we dropped the soap in Round 2.

Surely he knows a hashtag of #staytuned is going to be a mind [censored]. He's like the hot bird who parades herself in front of you saying "you know you want this". Yes, I do. Very much. Now please give it. -
I hate the idea of fundamental changes to the game, but another few years of rugby scrums and goals only being scored when they break out the back of a defensive press, and I may become a lot more open to this.
-
Possibly. That would be his only defence.

It depends on what value you place on leadership. I place a great deal upon it. In that sense it is absolutely looking to the long term as it is giving the Brayshaws and Petraccas another senior figure to help guide them in what are still formative years. If the recruitment was looking further towards a coaching appointment that strengthens the argument. As others have said, it's all very well to say that a leader in the 24-28 age bracket would make a better target, but those players aren't exactly growing on trees. With all of Grimes, Lumumba, Dawes, Dunn and Garland in the firing line, we are staring down the barrel of going from extremely young to obscenely young, with the danger of a backwards step we can ill afford. Despite what any might think of their value on field, they would all be contributing signficiantly off field. Replacing them all with more kids isn't a feasible option. I get that players like Thompson and NDS aren't the sexiest of targets, and they may not be the answer, but we should absolutely be considering players in this category for where the list is at. Expecting the younger players to take over the club now isn't realistic. Some of the key names are in their third year of AFL.

Lloyd described all of Dawes, Dunn, Garland and Pedersen as list cloggers in the club review on the AFL website. Anyone who wants to delist both Dawes AND Pedersen isn't fit to comment on Melbourne's playing list. Keeping one of them (Pedersen) is a must.
-
Fair enough. Disdain is a strong word to use, but I do think some have a level of disdain for the old guard (of which Jones is a part) as players, partly because of the era they represent. There is a strong will to move past them that I don't necessarily agree with. I think several of them still have roles to play in the squad, but we'll soon see whether that view is shared by the coaches. I agree that every Melbourne supporter loves Jonesy for his service. You'd need your head read not to.
-
Not entirely true. In ProDee's prediction thread I said he would finish top three. Most didn't even have him in their top five. Jones might be loved but he is criminally underrated on this board. It's done under this notion that we haven't progressed as a club until he is further down the pecking order. So people try to push him down that pecking order. His stats say he isn't ready to slide just yet.

CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS - VFL FINALS WEEK 1
P-man replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
haha indeed. You're clearly a big fan giving him that kind of a wrap. No fair minded person who watched that game would give such an unflattering summation. Grimes provided a lot of important drive out of the back half. After quarter time he was excellent and clearly in the top handful of players.
