  1. One or two wishful thinking Hawthorn supporters. No club is trading one of its most promising youngsters for a 31 year old.
  2. It's a reference point for where players fit into the pecking order, as well as arguments for whether a player like Lewis fits in as like for like or as part of a structural rearrangement.
  3. So where does he actually fit into the 22? Take the team below for argument's sake: B: Frost O Mac JettaHB: Hibberd TMac Hunt C: Salem Jones StretchHF: Petracca Hogan WattsF: Garlett Pedo/Weed KentR: Gawn Tyson VineyI: Oliver Brayshaw Vince Melksham Who goes out? Melksham's name sticks out but he's just been brought in, and it isn't to play at Casey. The rest are either mainstays or young players for whom games at senior level is now very important. I'm in favour of getting him on the cheap as we lack leadership and experience but I'm interested in logistics of where he slots in with his attributes. Granted there will always be injuries but we had a decent injury run with our midfielders last season.
  4. In case this does go through, I take back everything I've said about Jordan. Or Jordie, as I will refer to him henceforth. He's definitely not an arrogant [censored] and his bald spot isn't that noticeable.
  5. "As of yesterday afternoon we decided we didn't want Jordan to go anywhere.." lolol Was he performing a skit? That has to be a line in a parody of some kind.
  6. I've always thought Wines would leave Port. Whether it happens this off season or not, it just feels inevitable for some reason. If he did come to Melbourne, how's this for a chain of events: - Port supporters gloat about Wines over Toumpas - Port supporters talk up their chances of luring Viney - Port supporters boast about "de-Melbourning" Toumpas after picking him up - Viney re-signs with Melbourne - Toumpas fails and gets delisted (likely) - Wines leaves Port to join Viney at Melbourne Mm. Tasty.
  7. Haha, good point. I still think clubs being bumped down the draft order as a result of compo picks should retain the points their original picks were worth. As it stands the clubs below are being penalised too much.
  8. Is anyone else amused by the amount of rules and intricacies there are to draft and trade these days? Priority picks, father sons, academies, concessions, zones, points, trading of future picks, restricted and unrestricted free agency, compensation, PSD....you could write a thesis on it.
  9. Given it's Clarkson the S Mitchell to West Coast move will probábly pay off. There's not much he touches that doesn't turn to gold.
  10. I think what is causing nerves is this trend of players in the O'Meara age bracket nominating their club of choice, and getting there, which is somewhat separate from which club chases the hardest. How you get around that issue without removing the player's rights to basically dictate their destination club is the question. I don't think there's an easy answer outside of that solution. But I agree that the amount of money and effort a club wants to invest in a player holds more sway than it is given credit for. I'm really not that concerned by the prospect of Prestia and Mitchell going to Hawthorn who will have more than just two holes to fill to remain up the top. Neither will come cheap in terms of what Hawthorn will need to give up in order to get them, and one has played merely handful of games in the past two years while the other has only been tested as a 4th or 5th choice midfielder for oppositions to target.
  11. Need to lower or abolish the cap floor so the lower clubs aren't placing average players on contracts beyond their worth simply to meet minimum spend obligations. They need as much leeway as possible to attract players. The problem is player movements that are financially motivated rarely end up being success stories. I don't think it's panic stations. The Dogs this season showed that the status quo is more shakeable than many might have thought.
  12. She was good in that role. Very genuine. She has a bubbly personality which I didn't find annoying, which is uncommon.
  13. You've been watching too much Game of Thrones I would feel confused if I ever met a male called Khaleesi.
  14. I find the idea of Mayne on a four year deal worth more than $2m to be a lot less believable. Someone needs to put Buckley in a straitjacket if that's even mildly true.
  15. Welcome back. There was a thread dedicated to your absence but it got shut down.
  16. Thanks for informing of this. Well done Jordie.
  17. We should at least lead the league in finger pointing this season. Not really a make or break appointment. Good luck to him (and to us) as he sets out on this new path.
  18. Just had a listen. It was in the Sam Maclure segment. Indeed they didn't quote Hogan's management directly. Healy said that based on the response from his management, the rumour that Hogan was about to sign a long term deal was wrong. Maclure added that it was "very far off the mark", which sounded a little ominous.
  19. Rumour on Bigfooty (so taken with the appropriate pinch of salt) that we are into Tom Cutler at Brisbane.
  20. It's just sad that such a promising start to his career has come to this end. Really hoping he gets another chance. He's still capable and his professionalism off the field can't be questioned. My admiration for him went up a notch this season. All the best Grimesy. Hold your head high mate.
  21. Was tough watching Trenners today.
  22. Tim Smith is creating a stir in my pants. Deserves a chance at AFL level. Meanwhile Grimes is making me feel like a right goose for defending him.
  23. Fair enough, but are there instances of clubs using it before us is the question. My assumption is that we were the first.
