  1. [quote What are the chances of us passing on Trengove and Morabito and take Gary Rohan at pick 2? Other than Scully, Rohan was the player who most impressed me at the Championships this year. Would be similar to the 2005 National Draft when Collingwood overlooked clear 2nd best player Xavier Ellis to instead take draft-day bolter Dale Thomas at 2. If we did go with Rohan i'd hope that he'd turn out better than Thomas!
  2. Nasher. Do what has to be done. Don't look back, only forwards. Spare the supporters the brinkmanship of the Richmond game. Actually it's to the Dees advantage to tank to such a degree that Demetriou finally puts an end to priority picks. Meaning of course that we were the last to have such a benefit.
  3. ?????? At least Gary Rohan is rated highly. He would be an excellent second choice, given that we don't win more than four games. Star quality. Saw him at the championships. He finished off a few tackles like Sylvia does; he meant business.
  4. Each club has a different culture. For example Richmond devours coaches and ex players. Collingwood is a powerful club, yet ultimately unsuccessful. etc. etc. Melb. has developed a losing culture over the last fifty years or so. Failing at Grand Finals ignominiously. Inability to win away from home. Winning at the beginning of the year, then falling in a heap. And more. It's too painful. I will be absolutely convinced that the culture of losing is here to stay if Melb. wins 5 or more matches. They need to become ruthless like Carlton. Win by losing and toss the old culture out.
  5. Dee-luded. I agree with your comments in regard to Talia. I watched him play last Wed. and I thought he has heaps of potential. He has the necessary football smarts, uncompromising desire to win and competitiveness that goes to making a good prospect. Additionally he has clean hands and knows how to kick the ball. In my opinion he is a top pick. No doubt. Scully's performance was commendable when you consider he had his nose taped up. I'd reckon that's like a handicap that'd slow anyone down.
  6. I remember when Balme was coach and we won the first few games then fell in a heap. This type of malaise lasted for years, like a chronic fatigue syndrome that was especially apparent on interstate trips. I'm not interested in finals as such, but only one final and that's winning the grand final. These days I am optimistic about the future of the club with Jimmy and with Bailey and the other members of the off field team. On field, the future looks bright.
  7. According to eldersweather website there is at this stage a 70% chance of 1-5 mm (showers, not rain.) For what it is worth, they do a very good job. This prediction could change. And it is only a prediction. You can take it from a bushie that we are in a prolonged dry period, lasting so far, for about ten years. It's unlikely that it will be a wet day. And if it was, all the better for Brock.
  8. Creative player with the necessary desire to win. Plug and play. A very good choice.
  9. James Frawley has what it takes above the shoulders. I am full of optimism for him. No worries at all; will only get better as time passes.
  10. Tim Lane is a living national treasure.
  11. Take Hurley at number one. Absolutely the best choice - at either end. Can Watts play at full back?
  12. Neita was a star at centre half back. I'd like to think that Garland is learning to play as a forward by minding opposition main players. Slot him in at full forward next year.
  13. Awesome is the word that comes to mind in describing Schwarta before he did his knee the first time. He set the football world on fire; his talent was exceptional. It was pure pleasure to watch him carve his way through the forward line. He is a legend
  14. Some years you'll have to choose between a superbly talented footballer such as Garry Lyon and a reliable (i.e not injury prone) footballer such as Plugger. My view is that it's always better to have your footballers on the paddock.
  15. If I'm not mistaken Geelong got rid of Greg Williams because he was slow! Brock McLean might not have great acceleration but being smart makes up for that deficiency. No worries with Brock, he'll go all day. Imagine him on a wet track
  16. INJURY PRONE. Not a serious consideration at all.
  17. I think it was Alan Jeans who said that Gary Ayres was a good driver in heavy traffic. Similarly, a good recruiting man needs to have a zen like quality but no matter how good the recruiter is, if he's the right man in the at the wrong time then his efforts will be wasted on "bad luck." Melbourne's luck will turn. This luck of ours is not unrelated to the Dees base at the Junction Oval. We've done our 40 years in the desert, the waves will part and success will come.
  18. What nonsense it is, suspending Brock. The rest of the old-guard leadership group excepting McDonald amd maybe Robbo are part of the Melbourne Football Club PROBLEM. Let the years pass and finally things will change. Frankly, I couldn't care if the club was full of ratbags so long as they played winning football. Presently, this leadership nonsense is more akin to a snotty private school group. And what about Carroll. He who takes no backward step. You're in good company Brock. Come to think of it there's an alternative to the present leadership. Start with Brock and Carroll.
  19. Bradley worthy of consideration as is Fergus Watts from St Kilda if available. Bradley is a mobile forward - was played out of position at Essendon. He's the right age too.
  20. Could someone please give me a link that shows the birthdate of prospective draftees? It is interesting to know who are the bottom age prospects. Newton, Bate and Dunn were bottom age in their drafts I think.
  21. Hopefully he won't have his image plastered over the back of the sports section in 2008. I'm heartily sick of Collingwood and their heavily weighted publicity machine. Please spare us. After the first seven weeks one year, the Herald Sun had them winning the Coleman Medal, the Brownlow and the Premiership...and none of that promise came to pass. Bwahahahaha Good luck to Bucks as they call him. I don't want him near the club when there's sharper football brains around like Gary O'Donnell. Now there's someone who knows about the hard yards. Why would you train a Collingwood apprentice?
  22. The last thing the Eagles need this year is getting stitched up in a Chris Judd deal gone wrong. They are vulnerable.
  23. I agree Pantaloons. It is a good time to be ruthless. ps. I loved your speech (I have a dream...)
  24. Good idea. Choose Thorton from Carlton. Goldsack, Thomas and Pendlebury from Collingwood.
